To keep population growth fast you need to keep mining. If you fire off just a few bombs next to the drop zone you can quickly mine a little stuff and keep your growth at around 30/day. If you stop mining and try to speed through the days it drops right down to 5/day or even less.
Even so, growth is FAR too slow - it took me 162 game days to reach 2,500. When you compare it to the other medium badge it's laughable that they're the same value. Growth Spurt should be a hard badge just for the boredom factor required to grind it out to 2,500 population.

After buying the surveyor you can go to the build town screen before you spend money to see where the next gold sign will be located.

LOST! REWARD!: a blue diamond the size of a sedan, last seen leaving the owners screen. If found, please return, owner has no way of reaching it.

It's really, really obnoxious that failure to mine gradually eliminates your town growth, and even more annoying that the game doesn't tell you this at all.

These folks seriously fearless of radiation. Just 24hrs after some nukes when off, they are setting there camps around there. O.O
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
Well, normally I wouldn't think of detonating a nuclear weapon in a settlement, but my surveyor said there was gold there. What else was I supposed to do?

It would be nice though if there was some way to turn off the bar that pops up before each day that tells me to buy explosives. After 25 days, I KIND OF understand what I'm doing here... :/

The Colour of the explosion hole should give some indication of potential gold remaining, streaks with gold for Excellent, flakes for 'good' black for bad.
Trying to remember 15 explosion sites. . . .not fun.

I love this game could you add more upgrades like vacuum (which increases your radio for sucking in ore) or a companion that allows you to have a second ore collector.
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
Ore needs to bounce off the edges of the map or, perhaps, get automatically collected if it does. Making it unreachable in trees is fine, though, since that gives the player further incentive to deforest the maps.

Need one more upgrade that acts like a compass to pieces not yet picked up. Town structures make them hard to see and sometimes they get thrown far!
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
I kind of wish there were an upgrade to 'concentrate the blast' or something, that could make it so that the gold didn't fly off as far. Kind of annoying when most pieces stay near the hole but a couple go flying off into the next plot over.

Found a tin can, sold for $30. Tin can's approx. weight is 30g. Tin can therefor $1 a gram. Gold is selling for $780 a kg. which is 78 cents a gram. Tin can's are worth more than their weight in gold?

kinda fun but i have a few problems. I payed 20,000 for a surveyors office and it burns the records of where it found gold the day before, and without fail always goes to the other side of the map to find gold instead of doing the logical thing and finding gold close by the offices. no record of whether or not a hole in the ground has gold or if I mined it out already also a lapse in logic, because I'm pretty sure actual mining companies would keep records of that...

Needs some way to locate those tiny pieces that disappear into the camp, never to be seen again. Especially when they're the only ones left. Like a compass pointing to the nearest piece.

I really like the originality of this game, but there are a few things I think would be nice for the future. Instead of the surveyors office putting up a sign each day, perhaps it could be upgraded to permanently mark the map with colors for various estimated gold amounts. Also it seems like such a waste to burn an explosive slot just to clear out some trees. I'd be willing to pay extra for a large bomb that has an effect over a 2x2 or 3x3 area.

I think that the surveyor building should only give you "GOLD" markers where your HQ is. It's quite annoying when I go into placing explosives and it takes me to the far right plot when my HQ is in the far left plot, as I won't be going to place explosives there, and I also have to then scroll all the way back to the left.

Few tips to get the last achievement: add taverns on all empty spots on the map. and the big thing is that your population increase/day decreases with each day that you DON'T mine. it doesn't matter how much. as long as you do. so you can just use one little bomb a day and the people will be happy. Also hardware stores make the tents into larger houses, which increases the pop of each house. Hope this helps!
