Ok, here's my strategy to get the hard badge and 1200ft.
First day max out trans, engine and wheels, then drive in wheelie to avoid losing too much speed from zombies. Put the nose down only on downhills. Reach 760-780ft.
Second day, do not buy the autogun, instead max out fuel and spend the rest on prop.
Third day max out prop and spend the rest on autogun, drive like above, hit the third slope and fly above the crates.
Much easier for me.

This is the best tip:
DAY 1: 37" Wheels + 4WD sport transmission + 120hp V6 Engine + Lvl 8 Fuel Tank Upgrade. Simply hold the UP ARROW key. DAY 2: Lvl 10 Fuel Tank Upgrade + Lvl 1 Boost Upgrade (Just buy it and don't upgrade anymore) + Lvl 2+ Weapon Upgrade. Similar to Day 1, but you should at least make it to the last slope, at which point you should use all your boost to get as much $ as possible. DAY 3: Lvl 7 Weapon Upgrade + Lvl 7+ Boost Upgrade. NOTE: You are aiming for a "ft left" of less than 2126 ft, so if you know you won't make it past that, quickly press ESC and click Restart, so you don't have to start from Day 1 again. It's important to know exactly when to use your boost. It's hard to accurately define, but on the last slope there is a lone cactus; just after this cactus, use all your boost and tilt your car BACK (LEFT ARROW key), to try and propel your car into the air with some decent forward-momentum; hopefully it will smash through the top of the stacks of crates."

I am adding a bit to what shottas said:
"To get the hard badge you have to be able to fly over the boxes. 1st day buy max transmission, engine, wheels, and spend the rest on fuel. 2nd day buy gun and as much ammo as you can. 3rd day buy boost and as much boost fuel as you can - use the boost on the very last hill to fly over the boxes and get the hard badge! ++ because it works! REPOST IF IT DOSEN'T GET VOTED UP"
1. There will be some money left on after you buy the gun or the boost - use it to max your fuel.
2. Tilt the car, so that it drives on its back wheels to effectively annihilate zombies - it's faster, saves fuel and you save bullets (the gun doesn't shoot when pointing up to the sky).
It worked for me perfectly.

YOU: "Look, I know it's the apocalypse and all, and I know it's rough terrain, but I still think it's weird that you don't have a single car that can travel more than three quarters of a mile on one tank of fuel." MECHANIC: (pocketing screwdriver the he has just been jabbing at a fuel tank) "You callin' me a liar?"

For the hard challenge, make sure you have your boosters upgraded all the way by day 3, then hit it full power on the last hill before the boxes so you launch yourself near the top of the boxes. + so others can see

Hard Badge Guide: Day 1 - Max out Trans+Engine+Tires and spend the rest on fuel. Hold down the Only take your foot off the accelerator if you're going to be off the ground for more than about half a second. Try and keep your wheels parallel to the ground. You should get around $730. Day 2 - Max out fuel, get the autogun and as much ammunition as you can afford. Do the same as before. When you reach the final hill, it's broken into three slopes. You should be able to get part way up the third. If not, restart and try again. Day 3 - Put everything into Boost. Do the same as the previous day, and when you hit the the third slope of the hill, hold boost and fly over the barrels. Don't bother voting up, just repost.

150 feet left. Out of fuel. Drag your massive truck 2800 feet back to the garage or make a run for it? DRAG THE TRUCK!

"Hey Joe! Where should we put all these big wooden crates?!"
"Oh just anywhere.."
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
Oh no. My truck ran out of fuel 100 ft from the helicopter! I might as well push it back the 3000 feet instead of walking 100...
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
Wow, I stopped 40 feet away from the helicopter. Can't I just get out and walk? I can see the helicopter, it's right there in front of me.

to earn the hard achievement: first fully upgrade the engine, transmission and wheels, the rest of the money spend it on fuel. in the 2º day, max the fuel and spend the rest money in the weapon. finally in the 3º day spend all the money in the boost. you'll need the boost to get through the boxes that are at 980ft so dont waste it and use it at the final ramp to fly over them. when the ground is downhill try no to fly too much, it makes you loose speed
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
I didn't see any tips for the hard badge in top comments so I will do my best to help.
1. Purchase max engine/transmission/wheels and as much fuel as you can.
2. How you control the car really matters! Try to hold back to pop the wheel up when going over stretches with lots of rocks. Always try to land with both wheels at once and stay level for the most speed on stretches of flat surface. You should be able to get 750+ on first day with some practice.
3. Purchase the gun and as much ammunition as possible. You should also be able to max out your fuel at this point.
4. Max out your ammunition and purchase the booster and as much boost as possible. Use tiny spurts of boost to get up hills and activate early enough before boxes to break through.

There should be monetary bonuses for flying over zombies, something like an "Epic Leapfrog Bonus" for jumping over 3 zombies at once. Also...who's handing out these monetary bonuses anyway?
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
Took me a couple of tries to beat hatchback, trick is to speed up, don't try to save fuel by slowing down, if you do you wind up using more fuel on hills just floor it but save boost until end then boost through the crates.

I want one of those binoculars he has. They can zoom in to look at distances more than 3000 feet. That would help me discover the mystery behind my brother staying in school until 7 p.m.

Me: *sees super wheel* hmm. I dont think they'll help much.
*Fails without them*
Me: maybe I should get them.
After 5 seconds of use: Perhaps I treated you too harshly.

So let me get this straight. I take this old beater and run it out as far as I can until it stops moving. Then I...what, push it back through the zombie-infested desert to the garage so I can try again? Awesome survival plan.

Revamp of Dec. 09, 2011 Badge Guide: Day 1 - Max out Trans+Engine+Tires and spend the rest on fuel. Let gravity start your car, begin accelerating once you slow to 40mph, then hold down the up arrow all the time unless you know you're going to be off the ground for more than about half a second. Try and keep your wheels parallel to the ground. You should get around 730-750 ft. Day 2 - Max out fuel, get the autogun and as much ammunition as you can afford. Remember to tilt back slightly when hitting a group of Zombies so they go under your wheels. When you reach the final hill, it's broken into three slopes. You should be able to get part way up the third (900+ft) if not, restart and try again. Day 3 - Put everything into Boost. Do the same as the previous day, and when you hit the the third slope of the hill, hold boost and fly over the barrels (should get 1082ft). Don't bother voting up, just repost. Hard badge: Max engine, wheels, transmission and rest on fuel. Save fuel by sliding down first hill and flat without accelerating. Day 2. Max fuel, rest on gun+ammo. Day 3. All on boost, boost final slope to fly over barrels.
21 Day Story mode: Wheel 2, Fuel, Engine 2, Fuel, Wheel 3, Transmission 2, Max Fuel, Engine 3, Fuel if not maxed, Transmission 3, Optional Boosts. Save for 2nd vehicle, you should be making $25K/day, so 2 days.
Day 9: 2nd vehicle, Engine 2, Fuel, Transmission 2, Max Fuel, Engine 3. You should be making $40-70K, start saving for next vehicle, it doesn't matter if it takes 4-5 days, as long as you get it ASAP.
Day 17: Final vehicle, get Engine 2, Transmission 2, Fuel, Wheels 2, Rest in Fuel, Engine 3, Max Fuel. Then get Max Boost and Gun, don't bother getting Transmission 3. Boost at the first crates to get a lot of 120 mph airtime, and then you should still have enough fuel to boost any time you slow down. You should be able to finish the game this way.

Strat for the 1k hatchback challenge: 1) Buy the best tires, trans, engine, and spend the rest on fuel. Get to 700 ft. 2) Spend rest on fuel, spend rest on gun and ammo. This should get you up to the final ledge. 3) Buy all but the last 2-3 ammo, and the rest on boost. Don't gas in the air, tap back over large rocks, keep your wheels down to keep your speed up. Boost up the last hill and over/through the boxes FTW
