Under rating threshold (show) Production values were great. The smoke on missiles and their explosions was very well done. The bullet hell was too dense and hard to see through. All the blur effects along with dead enemies blurring offscreen toward the bottom made the game screen just a mass of junk - which is unfortunate since the art and effects I could see were excellent. Advice: make the game field bigger, all enemies and the player ship smaller, and for cripes' sake knock it off with all the blur.

I agree I did probably go a little over the top with blur etc. I got over excited about the code I'd written and wanted to show it off as much as possible. When I get around to doing the threequel I'll tone it down a bit....and yeah a larger screen would be nice - I only kept it so small to minimise lag - next time it'll be bigger.

Under rating threshold (show) I think it would helps the visibility better if you get rid of that blur shadow effect that happen when you kill something because all I see is blur all over the place when I kill a bunch of enemy on screen.

ok, I'll bear that in mind: I'll definitely do another one at some point cuz I really like these kinda games and I love the name "Starmageddon", so I'd like to keep going and see how far I can take it...but probably not for a little while 'cuz I need to work on some other stuff first before I can approach the next version with the necessary enthusiasm.

Under rating threshold (show) It'd be nice if there was a period of invulnerability after you lose a life. Otherwise if you fly into a boss it'll instantly destroy you.

Under rating threshold (show) The game is definetley fun and it looks really nice. The one thing it's missing: bullet hell games like this are supposed to be, well... at least somewhat difficult. It's enjoyable, it looks really nice, but it's too easy.

Under rating threshold (show) I can't even see the enemy bullets half of the time because there is just too much going on. Between the different types of rewards and my bullets, I end up just swerving around hoping to miss stuff.

Under rating threshold (show) Very good game until the midpoint. Then it becomes a game of luck because it is impossible to see the enemy bullets. You can literally lose a life before you realize that you are getting hit.

hmm...I see your point. I would have liked to make it a more 'skilful' game (rather than being so heavily influenced by 'luck'), I probably need to get some beta testers to help me with that next time 'cuz it becomes very hard to judge these things when you've been play-testing the same game every day for months on end!

yeah I may have tended to make it a little too easy. The thing is it's only a small game really so I wouldn't expect people to want to play it over and over again just to get past some really difficult levels. I may not have got the difficulty curve quite right but I'd much rather make a game like this too easy rather than too frustrating.

Under rating threshold (show) I like the game overall quite a bit - great graphics and sound - but I feel like the balance could be better. It's fairly easy to get all the upgrades halfway through the game and then you're left to tackle the last few levels without any hope of an advantage. It makes the last level damn near impossible.

Under rating threshold (show) Overall a great game, but two complaints. 1: The way the ships explode leaving behind a blurred section of the screen makes it hard to tell where enemy shots are coming from, and makes the game alittle laggy. 2: The song gets repetitive.

Under rating threshold (show) I can't get past level 8 for the life of me. Great game but very hard to distinguish yourself from th bullets coming at you and create a strategy to actually dodge them, alot of it ends up being luck. I would trade in the repulsor for a wide beam screen clearing weapon in a heart beat like in common bullet hell shooters. I also don't get the criteria for getting the shield and an extra life? It seems to just happen randomly and in those situations I get lucky and have been able to pass levels. Love love the game. Suggestions for next one, different special weapon, armor upgrades and different types of weapon options(scatter,beam lazer,you know what I mean) for more variety. I'm not gunna give up till I beat this

Under rating threshold (show) I really enjoyed it, but I'm quite annoyed that it sets everything back to 0 (including medals) once you've beaten the game. Yes it's registered my highscore, but if this game gets badges and there's one for completing the game, I now have no way to prove that I've done so. I really don't want to go through all that again anytime soon. I hope that there's something not immediately obvious that is keeping track...

Under rating threshold (show) Great game... Made me sweat as hell. Gosh, if it weren't for that shield power up, I would be dead as hell. In the later levels the thing that cuts my breath is to find another shield before the one I have ends.

Under rating threshold (show) Fun. But your ship is so big. In most bullet hell games, your ship is tiny, often just 1 pixel for the hitbox. Here, you're so big there's often no way to avoid being hit. Not bad, but not being able to dodge made me give up about halfway through.

yeah I do that :) ....with a shield on your best bet is to sit right in the middle of all the enemies, of course you need to get out of there before the shield runs out.

Under rating threshold (show) A good game, but the visibility makes it really hard to see. Also, the smaller bronze coins look too much like bullets. It got difficult enough to play due to visibility that I quit fairly early in the game, but it's a good start in the right direction. maybe have an option for turning the smoke effects off?

Under rating threshold (show) Would love to be able to upgrade amount of bullets, or additional firing archs (45 degrees, 90 degrees, etc. instead of 90, then 180). Do like the single upgrades to the firing arcs!, would like a better information about what upgrades does. But rest is nice :D - Alot things that could be di fferent, this is ok for a "quick little" flash shoot the ufoes game.

Under rating threshold (show) Boy are the last few levels shield dependent. I had to have a shield up most of the time to survive in all of those explosions and try to hide and stay still for the times where I didn't. I really didn't have too much trouble with any of the bosses, not even losing a life to most of them, except for the last boss which took out at least 5 of my lives. It was fun overall though, and had fun playing through it.

Under rating threshold (show) Basically unplayable after the first few levels. Half the time looks like an impressionist painting because of the incredibly excessive color blur added whenever a ship get's killed. Yeah, this looks cool in the first few levels but after level 5 or so it get's to the point where half the time you can't see the bullets until they're on top of you, and the other half the time the only indication that there was any bullet heading toward you is the sound you hear when it hits you. You can't have a bullet hell game where you can't see the bullets. That's just poor game design.

Under rating threshold (show) Excellent game, but the looks of your ship and alien minions (not bosses, the graphics of those are great) seems a bit cartoony, and the lasers seem blurry, sometimes i can't see them cause the deaths of the aliens block me from seeing them. Otherwise, one of the best flat shooter games, 5/5.

yeah I'm sorry about that, it was a bad call on my part - I did it like that thinking it was a good idea, only realising later how stupid it was, by that time the relevant code was buried underneath a whole load of 'mess' which I really didn't want to delve into for fear of breaking something......I won't do it like that again!

Under rating threshold (show) oh, and the only thing making this game beatable what with the super minions and all, is that minions have a habit of dropping like 5 extra lives each levels, making sure that you can't actually run out of lives... needs better balancing (bullet hell: try to make the death of enemies less hellish than the bullets themselves, who shrinks periodically, making them much less noticable)

um yeah - the game-wiping after completion is stupid - I only did it that way cuz due to some silly decisions I made early on in the code it would have been harder not to do it and I was feeling lazy...I've learnt my lesson and won''t be doing it like that again!

Under rating threshold (show) I would enjoy a health upgrade. There are some unavoidable situations where you just get destroyed by a cloud of bullets. An upgrade to the ship's health would make this game a bit more bearable.

Under rating threshold (show) Simple fix for the low visibility problem: Make the enemy bullets appear above all smoke/fog/explosions. Maybe make a small black aura around the bullets in the smoke also to help with contrast. Something to help them stand out.

Under rating threshold (show) Main problem I'm seeing is that movement with the mouse versus the keyboard is a lot different. Keyboard movement goes a lot slower than moving with your mouse and seems to be really "blocky" for lack of a better term.

yeah I made it for mouse control really. I did put some effort into trying to make the keyboard controls as good as possible, but in the end I think it feels a lot more natural with the mouse - especially when 'throwing' the repulser around.

Under rating threshold (show) It's very well done. I just want more upgrades. I have 13 bosses and I'm almost done upgraded at level 8. Also, I wish the screen was bigger. I love watching the enemies explode and watching my ship wreak havoc. But the screen thing doesn't take anything away from the game for me.
