Vampire wanderer took me to the 30th floor. Had just enough willpower to almost always be under the effect of the Shield spell, and invested all the rest in Strength. Self-healing while hitting scales with your damage output and i ended up hitting for more than 500 per swing, effectively healing for 100 health. That was a lot of fun. Great game, can't believe it's actually 9 years old..

I do not have Adobe Flash Player so I cannot access this game but this is the best game I have ever played and I would rate it 5/5 but there is a lack of gameplay due to the fact that I do not have Adobe Flash Player so I can't actually play the game so I'll settle my very nuanced rating at 4/5

Sanctify is straight OP... especially with Celestial Lightwielder - stats focus Will and Str.
Golem Magus is also fun with Bolt. Can kill most things before they touch you.

Would be nice if the character would target another nearby monster once the one he was fighting is killed. It gets hard when you are surrounded and trying to heal as well as trying to take out some of the monsters. Other than that, it was a fun game.

I don't use the area heal of Lightwielder and move it out of the way, to the right. And hate to discover that at a crucial moment a useful spell is replaced by this one, again and again. :( Also, adding similar spells from different equipment seems unreasonable.

If you go for Celestial Lightwielder, and spec all into intellect and willpower up to like level 8, you can rush 15 by spamming heal on yourself :p (Just jump into the hole, avoid enemies)

Weirdly, when you level up the stat the game shows for strength is with the bonus already added in, while for stamina it's without the bonus added in. That sure confused me for a while. Not sure about the other two. Man, is this hard badge a slog. Wish there was an in-game floor counter, I almost just let myself die prematurely

AminK40: Mana Pearls are not usable in the game. They simply register as your wealth (and are scored as such under Kongregates' Achievements tab).

Went with celestial lightwielder and upgraded only will and intelect. Your healing factor is so high that nothing can hurt you... until you run into a room of 10 enemies that all have the charge attack. Kept getting shoved out of my sanctuaries.

This game is buggy as hell. When ever I go to the bottom right side of a boss room the floor shoots up and all characters can't be seen. and just now, I insta died randomly for no reason and the screen is stuck on black.

When click n' dragging hot keys for spells if you drag and drop a spell over another they don't swap positions. The spell being dropped on vanishes. Dropping to a new floor corrects the bug.

Reposting the guide I made a while back for visibility purposes, since I see many of the same questions that were being asked back then still being a source of confusion now. Enjoy: http://www.kongregate.com/forums/3-general-gaming/topics/562726-hack-slash-crawl-in-depth-game-guide

Too bad casting Critical seems to cancel my shield and casting Swarm seems to nullify the Vines status. For that matter, Swarm, Bolt, and Charge are just straight up the best spells in the game.

if only it would save the game, then it would be a 5 of 5.
but without it, it's jsut a 2.
sorry but hours of effort being gone after a reload (which is alos needed when the game bugs out) is just game breaking and bad!

Sorry for the late reply J167! That seems to be a good build. Personally, Swarm spells ARE a good thing to have, but Bolt is a low-cost, high damage option that few enemies resist. Combining it with a high will pool makes it easy to nuke bosses from afar.

I reach floor 11 as a corpse, got the medium badge though... the hard badge may as well be the impossible badge. It seems to be the best way to run for a hole after using vines to bind enemy and shield to get to the hole. I found the elemental attack bolt most effective in this game as it dealt the most damage, usually 100+

Rogan: by mage, I'm guessing that you want the most magic you can have. If so, it looks to be Lightweilder, Explorer, or Necromancer, in whatever combo build you'd prefer. By looking at the stats, I'd guess Golem Explorer, unless you want a specific ability. But since it is easy to collect abilities, I wouldn't focus on a specific type and instead get abilities to help protect you since you will have a limited protection if you plan to load up on intelligence and willpower. In reference to bolt, I much prefer one of the swarms, but then I don't prioritize magic. Instead, I use Golem Wanderer and load up on strength and stamina. Good luck!

Golem Cursed
Find something with Ice Resist, and something with Heal
Upgrade all stats fairly evenly or more towards stamina and strength
Should be fairly easy with these things

Gamejunkie2: There is a map of the floor on the upper left of the game and it shows you where you are in relation to it. This makes it easy to know which rooms you've cleared before heading on to the next room, and if you have any reason to go back that way (e.g., the exit room). Personally, I love to have cleared rooms, for somewhere to run to if I end up attracting more attention than wanted or even a larger area to run in circles while I am healing and the enemy is trying to attack me (and thus usually failing), lol. As for inventory, when in inventory, if you take unwanted items and place them in the upper right where it says “SELL ITEMS,” you can sell them to make room for more items. If you have any further questions, feel free to pm me.

Drobotov02: The Ice Knights are indeed difficult to beat if you don't have the right armor on. It is imperative to use ice resistance armor against them. FYI, unlike the other enemies, if you have 100 percent ice resistance, they can't harm you at all. Until you are prepared to battle more than one enemy at a time, be very careful how to approach an enemy, this doesn't just mean to move slowly, but also from and to which direction. Be careful. Also, know your spells, and if you need different armor or different spells while in battle, if you click inventory, the battle pauses. If you do this, keep in mind that you'll have to click on the enemy to start attacking again. / Once people get the hang of the game the only things truly missing is save so that one doesn't have to play it in one go, and it would also be helpful to know what level one is at.

Is it just me, or is Charm possibly the worst ability? XD Don't get me wrong, it's a great concept and all, but half of the time i cast it i find the enemy i cast it on just merely following me. I know they can attack, i've seen some of the creatures i've charmed attack, but it seems most of them don't. That, and the high mana cost, makes it seem not worth it imo. Idk if this is a bug, me getting unlucky with casting, or what. Nice game btw and i am having a great time playing, i just think Charm might need some rework - especially given that while i am not playing as a Charmer, that class exists and Charm is the only benefit that class gets.

Hello
Good game.
My thing, the floor map, Be nice when you complete the floor it lets you know, spend to much time running around to see if you cleared the floor,
2nd- Inventory, When it is full to be able to dump what not needed.
Thanks
