Under rating threshold (show) This was one of the greatest games I have played in awhile. The interesting gameplay, the beautiful artwork, the captivating story line. . . It was a refreshing game to play. Even the different characters and their personalities gives this a sort of 'dream like' feel. From the beginning, this game captured my interest; starting in a gloomy room with a grand piano, letting me play the Chicken Dance as the first thing to do in the game. There's only two things that I can critique. One, the title of the game sort of gave away the ending, as open ended as it was. It almost made me assume that this was all a coma induced dream world, but didn't faze me too much. The second was that you had to click during the dialogue, when it would be easier to use a space bar and the arrow keys. But it was pretty quick and easy to get used to, as I was more interested in the story line of the game. Now, if only it was longer! Thank you so much for this great game and addition to Kongregate, Wittyhobos!

Under rating threshold (show) I love this game. It is atmospheric, has amazing music, beautiful art, and an enjoyable story. However, those annoying ads for your Facebook killed much of the atmosphere, so I'm only giving you 4/5 instead of 5/5.

Under rating threshold (show) This game seems like such a lovely, light hearted adventure... but somehow you just get the sense that there is something seriously, horribly wrong about it all.

Under rating threshold (show) in case y'all don't know, this was turned into a steam game in 2020, it was originally called Once Upon a Coma (but was changed to neversong), and it had pretty different gameplay as this one, but still following the same concept and having a few returning characters, like fatty. You should try it!

Under rating threshold (show) With all apologies to Kongregate, do yourself a favor and play the version of this game on the developer's website (http://atmosgames.com/coma.html). The Kongregate version seems to be missing the great music and the dialog audio. Also the website version doesn't have the Facebook/Twitter CTA, which is an eyesore on such a lovely game.

Under rating threshold (show) I'm surprised nobody has mentioned that a good portion of this game requires random jumping around in a black area trying to find a platform or passage out of the room. Maybe it's just my screen (it's on maximum brightness), but I couldn't see anything in the whole "secret basement", aside from a few points of light, a glint from the character's eye and some kind of pulsing organ in one room. Same thing throughout the "silver chute" area. I had no idea there was a "boat" until I read it in the comments below. Makes me wonder what else I missed. Aside from that, I liked the art style and atmosphere. Not a bad little diversion for a Sunday afternoon.

Under rating threshold (show) I support the calls for an own art section! This game, and many others (like 'the company of myself') are soooo imaginative and thoughtful! I even dare to say that they easily outperform most commercial games, in terms of creativity and cultural value (I hereby also drop the name 'machinarium', have a look at it, it's worth it). Thank you 1000x for creating!!

Under rating threshold (show) I liked this game's style, the story was bot interesting and entertaining, the art was great, and the music truly set the tone. But the gameplay was definitely lacking. It feels like you can explore the entire world, but everything is depressingly linear instead. The "puzzles" are mostly you wondering around until you come across the right item. Not to mention how I wasted so much time walking (and jumping) across pointless screens. So while there are several great aspects to this game, it never really felt like I was making choices or accomplishing things, plus the puzzles were boring. This defeats the whole purpose of it being a GAME. But honestly, ignoring this one issue, everything else was so enjoyable it makes up for it. So I can only hope there's a spiritual sequel that takes everything else from this game, and adds some enjoyable gameplay to that mix.

Under rating threshold (show) I don't think he dies in the end. When you ring the bell it makes it sound like his coma has ended. I just felt like saying this to everyone who goes on about how he dies. Besides that point an excellent short story game. Beautiful art work but a little dark in some places so it was hard to know where to go. Other than that excellent.

Under rating threshold (show) Is it possible Pete is a kid? I know that's how I spelled Door when I was young. The handwriting also seemed like someone younger. The environments were really simple and "Kiddie", then it goes into the nightmare stages with "Big Scary Worms." This is just my opinion.

REALISE

Jul. 07, 2010

Under rating threshold (show) This world is Pete's dream as he is in a coma. The writing on the walls, 'Wake up Pete' represent the loved ones that are around him in reality, hoping for him to wake up from his deep sleep. Characters you meet are the loved ones of Pete, and their personalities are shown through a form of abstract art or physical appearance, like his abusive father that was never close to him during the game, instead just sitting there immobile. The mother is an unknown object in the clouds, which shows that Pete never knew her well, she died(because she is in heaven), and she doesn't want him to ring the dore bell because she knows it means death. The 'Dore Bell' is the light that people say they see when they die. The bird guides Pete to the dore bell (death), by tricking him that his sister was trapped in the basement, when she wasn't. In the end, he rings the dore bell, and he dies from the coma. The bird says he will see him soon, because he is Pete's guiding angel.

Under rating threshold (show) Dore is actually not a mis-spelling. It's a throwback to alice in wonderland where alice meets the dourmouse. Which is double-throwbacked to learning french, which was one of the original alice's classes, dour means to sleep, and the mouse was always sleeping. Today's Alice In Wonderlands neglect that though and make the dourmouse all lively. The dore bell is the sleep bell. I don't know if that means he fell asleep and died, or woke up because he pressed it...

Under rating threshold (show) This game kind of reminds me of the Nevermore series but it's probably because of the art and that they're both platformers. This game is amazing though, really gets you thinking about the kid's mind.

Under rating threshold (show) If big lady is the nurse why did she not want Pete to find his sister? If the ending is waking up from coma, why would she want Pete to play with Goboyssa in the dream, stay in coma forever? Face it, Pete died. Yes he is a little boy, yes the boat is the hospital bed, but he's leaving dead, not well. He unites with his sister who died before him - you can see a boatman's shadow reflecting off the water just before the ending, like Charon that lets you cross the river to afterlife. The fisherman is his abusive father who killed the sister and placed Pete in coma. The big lady is his mother who wants Pete to stay alive despite the coma. The bird is his dead sister, or at least Pete's longing to see her. He opened his eyes in heaven folks.

Under rating threshold (show) You couldn't have just stuck the iPhone version ads on the main menu and left it at that? They totally detract from the immersion into the story whenever I pass by them, they remind me that I'm actually staring at a computer screen and that it's just another meaningless browser game.
