5: Research Adv. Energy. Build 2 MC's in 2nd row, with bunkers. 6: Build 2 MD's in bottom row with bunkers. Upgd MD's. Upgd all MC's. Upgd 1st row bunkers. 7: Rsch Planet Shield. Upgd MC's. Max everything. Replace 1 EC with MC, fully upgd. 8: Save up $6 trillion and replace EC's with 3 MC's, 1 MD, fully upgd. Replace & upgd buildings when boss attacks. Final setup: 5 Ions in 1st row; 6 MC's in 2nd row; 3 MD's & 4 MC's in 3rd row.

To beat Apocalypse: Try to surround non-bunkers with bunkers--above, below, left and right. 1: Build 1 Ion in middle of 1st
row. Fill 1st row with Ion, bunker, Ion, bunker, going out from the center. Build bunkers under left- and right-most Ions.
2: Upgrade Ions starting from middle. Build bunkers under each. 3: Research Adv. Economics. Upgd mid Ion to 3. Build 5 EC's
in bottom row. Upgd 2 inner Ions. 4: Research nukes. Upgd 3 EC's. Build 4 MC's in 2nd row. Upgrade 2 EC's.

wait, how the HECK is there 500 million people to start with on the planet!?!? what happened!?!? They have ion cannons so its the future!!! and were missiles invented!?!? what happened between now and this must be horrible. WW3 confirmed

Whoa!!! Just beat the game with Ion Cannons Missile Defense and Bunkers. Lots of bunkers. The idea is to get lots of Economic Centers going so that you can get Laser Defense and then the Planetary Shield. The earlier you get the planetary Shield the better.

BUT can you beat it WITHOUT using even a single MISSILE COMPLEX on apocalypse? My current record is 1100 million people left at the end. There is something calming about watching the planet erupt in ion cannon fire when the enemy touches the top of the screen. It is MUCH tougher than regular apocalypse.

This is a great, short (about 1/2 hour) game. Beautifully polished. Just a few examples: excellent strategic tradeoffs from the first second of play (firepower vs. defense vs. economics); smooth missile retargeting and graphics; dissolving missile contrails... And this game was one of the first flash games on Kong in 2008!
This game is so good that I keep coming back to play it over the years, always trying to beat my previous high score and end with more population and money.
Kudos to Kevin Lin, the developer. Hope he's gone on to bigger and better things.

huh... didn't even realize that reh "research" tab was there until I tried to get the hard badge... I beat the game on easy with just one row of ion cannons upgraded to level 2 or 3

try starting with 3 ions in the center top and 1 bunker. Then upgrade those 3 turrets to level 3
That should get you past the first couple rounds with close to 1000 population, thus granting you more room to experiment.

Bunker is really useful here, after you get the economic centre, your money growth depends on population, and this bunker protects people!

If you survive the first 4 minutes, you will surely win. Just build some ion canons at the beggining until you can build missiles, they destroy anything in seconds. Upgrade economic centers and dont spend money in repair bases, the best deffense is a good attack.

The game is great, but the AI ships have too much range, even if I put them in the front, easy is hard 4 me. Within 5 minutes of easy, my population ONLY stayed in the 500s. needs more work.

reminds me of that SMS game. where you are destroying satelites in 3-d.
super hard. i remember disliking its harshness. and never finishing it.
@sonofnorth. reproduce is natural ?
otherwise apathy. and eugenics / +others win.

I started a thread concerning Apocalypse Mode high scoring.

Would appreciate expert players contributing to it.
Thanks.

Needs more build room.... Also randomly would find a shielded ship that seemed invulnerable. Six upgaded ion cannons + 4 max upgraded missile launchers. Basic single missile firing capitalship went through 500mill people with no shield degredation. Solo

@Icecoldpanda Have no more than 2 Ion cannons at the end. They are only useful to take on the little drones that swarm your buildings. At the end I had 6 Bunkers in the middle row, starting 1 from the edge on each side and then every 2 spots there was a bunker (it was missile-bunker-missile-bunker all the way to the end). I had two Ion Cannons in the middle column, middle and top rows. I had four Missile Defense systems set up just like the bunkers were, but on the top row (missile-defense-etc). Everything else was missiles. I had 3500m population at the end (and that was only due to my selling ion cannons before I realized missiles can't take the little drones out, which cost me about 1500m population), and $7600b. The final ship destroyed three buildings before it was destroyed. I never built a single repair bay and had 6 upgraded economic facilities at my max.

SEND THE FLEET! No wait... send just a few ships, then a few more. Then when all their defenses are up, SEND THE FLEET!

It's a type of game where you need to make sure every second count. It's kind of hard from the very beginning, and Apocalypse is no joking around. I had fun and spent some time with it before I found a way to easily plow through their attacks. Too bad people nowadays like to cheat, so the highscore wont count.

How is the hardest lvl even possible? I had almost all the places filled with attacking units and I still lost in the end (upgraded all research and the buildings I had ofc)

This game is really well done. Makes you really think about the best build order to balance protection of your population vs. attack power vs. economics. 5 years after its release I still come back to play it. The fact that it was so polished back in 2008 is even more impressive. Kevin Lin, great job. I hope you're doing something even better now.
