cheat means you can switch between creative and survival mode (and some other stuff) using the /gamemode 0 and /gamemode 1 command but you can also start a game in creative which gives you a full inventory of everything

if you want to increase the chance of mobs (bad ones) to show up try monster spawners

I guess you mean the bad ones? YOu can buil a nice mob trap with some cactusses pistons , redstone lamps and monster spawners (t recommened the oddtorches as they can override the light from the redstone lamps... the solution on this one can be build it deep or (*looks at zanz*) oddtorches that can be switched on and off.
there is also a small thing on the redstone circuits, if you make the circuit to long it can fail

lol forget my former message just discovered what backdrop means... lol always thought it was useless as then you could no longer craft things with it. however maybe it could be expended to stairs and ? that way I could make nice pillars for on the background of a castle

it might be nice if we could walk through bookshelfs, same with beds, (so that they would be on the "background" like now the furnance and inventories,...)

There is a bug with background blocks where you can't place anything on them or else they disappear. Please fix this. Also, make it possible to place doors near them.

they do spawn in dark places I ones even made a monster trap by using the odd torches in a basement full of cactusses
