Attempting to skip the face puzzle with the "skip" button quits the game...

How do you manipulate the faces puzzle? I have collected and placed all the faces, but all I can do is rotate the central ring and click each face to highlight it. I cannot deselect a face once highlighted, but highlighting doesn't seem to have any effects.
