Thank you for listening, I know you know what’s better for your game, but testing your game help A LOT, especially listening to people who want to give you advice for FREE. This is why major game labels do not release their games for years until everything was tested and all the advice was implemented… Just saying.

I’m pretty sure when I loaded the game the info part was still pretty brief, something along the lines “the fun part will be decorating the mine which is coming soon.” That said, while decorating the mine may give something more of a goal I’m not sure if it will actually improve the tedium of mining. I guess I’ll reserve the judgement for when that…

Yo, initially I took your comment a little personal, but that has passed. Also has to do with the fact that I’ve been awake for about 40 hours now of which a great part went into “semi-finishing” this and putting it into its current state. It is just a little quick fun free side project, with some open ends, but also under the basic premise of not putting too much swag into it… a little distraction from a bigger, “real” game I’m working on.. which honestly I am now afraid to upload here, kind of. Hopefully I won’t have to upload it for free, though ;). I think people just have different tastes in (retro) games, for example I tbh found farm of souls rather unenchanting and not very interesting for my personal taste, might give it another shot though. I appreciate you taking the time for an extensive post and for pointing out what you dislike about it while even suggesting features. If I had only this project, I would have maybe designed this in a different way from the start. For now it’s just mining with upcoming decoration. At some point the world might grow and other stuff might find its way into the game, but it simply is neither an action game nor an rpg, and wasnt thought to be one. One skill makes a rather dull rpg. It is just what it is, and it’s pretty much how I wanted it to be – given it’s a work in progress.. I myself am curious what it might end up as when I find the time to work on it. Elevators and transportation.. a big maybe.. but at first you’ll have to do some hard work to earn them ;)

Hey, two things. Firstly, never, ever take these things personally, especially when they weren’t meant to be. I realise it’s hard to hear someone badmouthing something that is dear to you, and any creation that you put work into out of your own volition is likely to be, but you are throwing your baby into the animal pen and some of these animals are going to be wolves who’ll tear it apart.

Secondly, it is your game, ultimately any comment and any rating is subjective and it’s more important that you do the things that you think are going to benefit it. I mean, I’m sure there are people who would say that it would be more fun if you mined out the blocks and could place them elsewhere (“make it like minecraft”) or that it would be cooler if there were mobs going for you shop and you placed towers to defend it ;) but at the end of the day it is your game and you are the one deciding how to shape it. I just checked and I see that the game is getting an average of 3 stars so clearly there has a number of people who like it more than I do, you are never going to please everyone so as long as you’re satisfied you’re good.

Why, this doesn’t look bad :)

Guess who? :P
I just wanted to return some more feedback:
1. I firstly thought about that epilepsy warning but when I tried to read it I could not finish the whole warning. (although that is of little concern).
2. When in game, i.e. jumping with the shiny block, there is so much happening around me, the return to menu, difficulty of level, timer an…

Yeah I kind of chuckled at the ESC suggestion… :P
Yeah. Agreed… I might have to do some more research about it.
Why do I keep responding? Because this is what I long for, making games (although not with AS3… too advanced ;P) and getting feedback. So now I think that maybe i should help other developers so they can get a gamer’s point of view (usually it is good to get a second person’s point of view on your game because they will view it differently) to improve, change or keep certain aspects of their game.
I really do envy you for making a playable game… and in AS3 nonetheless… :D

Well you know, despite this being my first game on kong, and it being a reeeeally simple one (i’m working on a “real” game, this was just a distraction from it), it took me a little while to get to where I am, coding-wise. I do have some programming experience, since thats what I do, and it helps….but tbh i’m a horrible coder and very slow learner. AS3 was hard at first, because it’s a full-grown language, but once you’ve grasped the basics of OOP, unless you have to, you wouldn’t go back to AS2 or any language that doesn’t have all these things that make life so much easier. So what I’m saying is: if you need any help with as3 (or other code), drop me a message, maybe I can help. What you did there with pong is a real good start. Try to iron out the bugs – it’s probably just the order in which you check for collision and move objects that makes the ball sticky sometimes. think: why does it happen? in your mind go through what your code does step-by-step until you see why it does that, and then re-arrange stuff, so this particular bug doesn’t happen. That’s the way you really learn. You’re absolutely on the right way there, hoping to see more from you ;)

I left OOP for a while, then saw Notch code on java.. so i am learning Java… not sure where to go.. maybe i need to learn both languages and be awesome.. but AS3 might be out of reach for now.. Ofcourse i have school for a few more days so i have to study and what-not… but when i am free i will definitely learn some language… AS3 might be easier because all of the GUI is already there, or is easily made instead of saying ’LineDraw (x,y)(x2,y2) etc… ^^ Thanks and i hope that i will ask for help in the future, because how do we really advance without some external assistance?
