Your character is nearly impossible to control, so it's basically a matter of luck whether or not you actually collect the food. And there's basically nothing more to the game - just continue jumping and hope you'll hit the food. (The obstacles are few and far between, and hitting one has little effect.) And does collecting food actually refill your hunger meter? I didn't notice.
