It seems that the boy you play as is a dead one who exists only in the girl's memories. As first, the world is void of colour in the mind of the girl, who cannot let go because of her sadness. As you give her the things that she like, you give colour to her empty world. Once you help her let go of her sadness, and let go of your death, then she can finally be happy and live her life full of colour; grey no more.

This games needs their own category. This is not just a game, but a beautiful story and a piece of art. The music, the colors, the end fit perfectly to build a whole story in a so short game. Absolutely Brilliant, no doubt.

Based on LittleHat's explanation, I also see that this game represent life itself, from childhood to adulthood, from the items you collect left to right. Starting from the left, there were gifts of a red balloon, a pink ribbon, a purple lollipop, and a brown teddy bear. You would consider all of them gifts of affection to a child. The four-leaf clover encountered in the way represents luck as a sense of hope to not give up. As the game progresses to the right, he gives a blue bead necklace, a more of an adult gift to symbolize a chain of love. The last thing you encounter is a yellow flower next to a tombstone to represent love beyond death. By the time the girl realize what was happening, she took life for granted. What remains are mementos of the boy's love.
