You need to correct a couple of things. First of all, the directional keys are not all exclusive. One has to be able to go up, and left, for example. Also, you need to keep a "safe zone" at all time. The random enemy placing should have a moving region where nothing can spawn. It can move, or instantly shift every second or so, but don't make a game that generates impossible moments.
You're doing this for a tutorial, you have to give an example of proper game design to others.
