Emily GreerSVP Product, Marketing & Finance since June 2006
Emily is the co-founder and SVP of Product, Marketing & Finance, and oversees most of the day-to-day operations, from product development to advertising and accounting. She led the initial product development of Kongregate, from first wireframes to live site, including designing the level and points system. Emily has a particularly strong interest in data & analytics, from cohort analysis to building a room health score model for the community team to better manage chat rooms. She was recently named a Female Founder to Watch in Social Gaming and is co-founder Jim Greer's sister, not wife.
Emily started her career in game finance in 1983, when her less frugal brother spent several months convincing her that Ultima III: Exodus was going to be the best game in the history of the world, and that she should split the cost with him. She strayed from that path for many years, receiving a degree from Yale in Russian & Eastern European Studies. Knowledge of medieval Transylvania was not immediately useful on the job market, but she stumbled into direct marketing and fell in love with how numbers can be used to both understand and predict human behavior. She worked for various catalogs & retailers, including Smith & Hawken, TravelSmith, and Gump's, where she built statistical and financial models, did extensive split testing and data mining, relaunched a website from scratch, and taught herself SQL when she got tired of waiting for IT to pull data for her.
