My Pet Protector 2 Guide

Getting Started

  • When creating your character you are presented several possibilities, these can help shape your hero's focus for the first year or so.
  • Be sure to chose options that reflect your own gameplay style. They're all useful.
  • The most common mistake people make is to try and charge straight into exploring dungeons, while this seems the most exciting you have to remember your hero starts as a young boy and dungeon exploring is scary business!
  • It's probably a good idea to do a few simple jobs and spend the money on training some skills. Jobs and training can provide some useful stat gains that will come in handy when exploring.
  • Many jobs and schools aren't usable until you've rebuilt your home village's buildings, every building has a use of some kind.. Some unlock new dungeons, schools and jobs while others provide new places to relax or decreased costs.
  • Resting is essential, everything you do will generate stress for your poor young hero which you'll need to recover before you can do more exciting things.

Character Information

Your hero has 20 skills and 6 stats that make up how good he is at certain tasks, every skill has a function and is worth having for one reason or another, though maxing them all is very difficult.

Stats come in helpful too, for example strength grants a damage bonus in combat, dexterity increases your chance to hit and defend, intelligence alters your magic damage and charisma lowers shop prices and increases the gold you obtain from selling.

Your hero can also learn several combat abilities that can make slaying evil much easier, each of these abilities has a skill or stat requirement that must be met before you can use it, mouse over each to see what these are.

Inventory & Magic items

Every piece of equipment you find in the world will have elemental affinity, be it a weapon or armour. Your resistances can lower the damage you receive significantly, a 50% cold resistance will give a straight 50% reduction of damage, so instead of taking 50 damage from that elite skeleton, you'd take only 25.

Items also come with several possible magical properties, sometimes the sword that hits hardest might not be better than one with a critical chance or an increased chance to hit. It's up to you to determine which is superior. The possible magical properties are:

  • Hit Chance Increase - Increases your base chance to hit.
  • Defense Chance Increase - Decreases your enemy's base chance to hit.
  • Spell Damage Increase - Increases the damage your magical attacks cause.
  • Luck - Increases your chances of obtaining loot and better possible loot when killing an enemy or opening a chest.
  • Critical Chance - Gives a chance of every attack made causing triple normal damage.
  • Life Leech - Gives a chance of every attack transferring some of the damage back to you as hit points.
  • Mana Leech - Like life leech only damage is converted to mana instead.
  • Spell Chance Increase - Increases your base chance to hit with magic spells.
  • Spell Defense Increase - Decreases your enemy's chance to hit with magic spells.
  • Stunning Blow - Gives a chance of the next attack stunning your enemy making him miss his next turn.

All magical effects are cumulative, so if you have a pair of boots with 2% critical chance and a sword with 3% your total critical chance will be 5%

From this screen you can also access the village's general stores.

At the stores you can both purchase and sell items.. Your Charisma and your charm will both alter the prices or buying and selling. Every time you upgrade your General Stores via the village screen the stock will change, the best general stores are rumoured to sell legendary items!

Potions can be life savers in a battle. They restore health or mana at the cost of your turn.. The effects of these potions are based on your healing skill and constitution, potions are only available to players on Kongregate so be sure to stop by and play here if you fancy using them.

Upgrading the village

As your game begins the village has been decimated by a raider attack, part of your goal is to restore your village to it's former glory and maybe even enhance it to become a central city of the kingdom.

Each building can be upgraded to a maximum of level 5 and has certain bonuses associated with it, for example.. Improve your house and resting there will be much more beneficial, if you also improve the library taking a personal development class will result in better skill gain. Increasing your Barracks will help when it comes to training combat skills and open up new jobs for you to use. Building a hospital will make the stress penalty from losing combat less severe.

Some buildings will unlock new dungeons on the world map.. For example, building a graveyard may open up tombs and crypts to explore as well as the possibility of working there as a warden. Every building upgrade requires both gold and building materials, building materials may seem scarce initially but as you delve into dark dungeons you'll find all sorts of things you can collect up and use.

Exploring the world

The world map serves as your gateway to adventure, there are many dungeons for you to explore, conquer and loot as well as repeatable adventures that can always result in new exciting things happening.

Many dungeons will be unavailable to you initially, to unlock these you will have to meet certain criteria.. For example, only a very brave hero would dare to scale the fire mountain.. Increasing your bravery is a good way to unlock a lot of possibilities.. But remember you're going to need good protection and skills before tackling harder dungeons.

Some dungeons are only available to players on Kongregate so be sure to stop by and play here if you want the full experience and exclusive loot items.

Dungeons

Scary places those dungeons, teeming with monsters, treasure and resources.. Each dungeon has a unique piece of loot you can only obtain there. Exploring a dungeon can take several weeks, especially if you plan to clear it completely.

In order to fully clear a dungeon you will need to kill every monster, loot every chest and collect every scrap of material.. It's always worth totally clearing a dungeon, even if sometimes you could possibly avoid a fight as sometimes this can lead to even more dungeons opening up to you.

Monsters in dungeons each have different strengths and weaknesses.. While those dark wizards might be susceptible to the cutting edge of your physical damage sword, attempting to slice through the armour of a dark knight might prove a little tougher. Skeletons being cold creatures could be immune to your ice blade, but hit them with a flaming sword and they'll likely crumble before you.

Time

Every action you take in the world takes time, usually a week, after your hero reaches the age of 19 this chapter of his story will end and the game will be over. While playing on Kongregate allows you to play forever it's purely for fun and won't improve your score. Always pay attention to how many weeks you have left, it may seem like loads initially but it'll soon swindle away as your hero grows and if you have a goal to achieve you'll have to focus on it.

Each year your hero has his birthday and the king will send a gift to help him with his development.

Resting

Since every action in the game builds up stress you will need to relax and recouperate from time to time, doing so is simple.. Initially you can only rest at your house. If you build the village gardens though you can relax there too. there's also 4 special locations to be found.. One for each Adventure (not Dungeons) once found you can return at any time to rest there.

Stress is reduced by the calculation - Base recovery rate * location multiplier (rounded)

Jobs

There are a total of 20 jobs available to your hero around the village.. Each one will alter your skills in some way and each one has it's own skill associated with it, your stats and skill will increase your effectiveness but the job specific skill will help the most, so while you might suck at it initially, stick with it and you'll soon be earning plenty of gold.

All jobs require a certain building and perhaps for your hero to be a certain age. Afterall no self respecting hunter would let a 12 year old boy join them in the task of taming a dragon! All jobs will give a corresponding Stat gain every 5 times the job is performed.

Schools

Learning is awesome, there are several schools and classes your hero to take which will help improve his skills.. While combat focused schools may seem like an attractive idea, never forget the benefits of a healthy mind or a charming smile, they'll all be helpful as you progress. All schools will give you a corresponding Stat gain every 5 times you attend them.. Personal Study alone is different in that it will award a random stat gain every 3 classes attended.

When attending Smithing and Tailoring schools there is a good chance you might be presented an opportunity to craft a unique item yourself, these items have the potential to be extremely powerful, but are very difficult to make.. Once created you will also have a choice of attempting to enchant them.. Depending on your crafting skills you could end up making the most powerful item in existence!
