Opis

In High Tea you play a 19th Century independent British smuggler selling opium in China's Pearl Delta.

Buy cheap and sell high to make a profit and get the tea you need to keep Britain happy.

Based on historical events, this game also shines a light on a questionable episode in the history of the British Empire.

Jak grać

You have ten years before the opium wars begin - can you make your fortune?

First you need to buy opium by clicking on the buttons in the control panel on the left.

Then sell that opium for a profit by clicking on the best deals that appear on the map.

Once you've made some money, use it to buy enough tea to meet Britains demands.

My biggest complaint is that you can't buy tea fast enough (only 30 at a time, then you have to wait a week for the deal to complete). In the final years, I was basically just clicking buy as soon as it was available to try to fill the order in time.

A quick calculation: The screen at the end of my game said that I alone shipped about 700 billion cups of tea to England in the 9 years I traded. I looked up a few statistics and the population of England seemed to be about 15 Million in 1850. So the average Englishman/-woman/-child consumed about 14 CUPS OF TEA PER DAY. FOR NINE YEARS. Since I surely had some competitioners, we are talking about a serious addiction here. Tsk.

So let me get this straight. I have to spend my money to go get opium, I have to risk my money, my ships, and my opium in sending it to other ports, then I have to use all that hard-earned money to buy tea and give it to England free of charge?

Screw you, Great Britain. Pay me for my damn work.

Giving all your profits away for free doesn't seem like a very good business model. :/
