The cost-per-DPS is very unbalanced. A level 1 autocannon gets you 1 DPS for every dollar spent, and that ratio improves with every upgrade, up to 2 DPS per dollar spent at a level 5 autocannon. For comparison, the Heavy and Missile towers have a consistent 0.8 and 0.52 DPS per dollar regardless of upgrades, and the Laser tower starts at a horrible 0.4 at level 1 and improves to only 0.86 when fully upgraded. Although this analysis ignores the range increases, a tower is only getting one or two extra shots per wave from that range upgrade, unless they were initially placed poorly. Without any special effects for these towers, or enemy resistances to certain weapons, there is no purpose for all these extra tower types. Even ignoring the cost differences, a level 5 autocannon does 3100 DPS...this is more than a level 5 Heavy or Missile tower, and two level 5 autocannons do the same DPS as one level 5 laser tower (6200).

Dnevill has a good, if somewhat flawed, analysis. Range differences mean more then just the extra hits you get for upgrades... simple DPS/cost comparisons forget that a laser tower has a lot more seconds to work with then an autocannon. Assuming full upgrades, as autocannon has a range of 1 square, the heavy turret has 2, the missile launcher has 4, and the laser has 6. You want different towers in different spaces; autocannons on corners/intersections, heavy towers where you can make use of their double range, and laser towers in the center where they can hit most of the path. Missile launcher is worst, for DPS efficiency and shots that have to move to hit; less DPS efficiency then an upgraded laser is inexcusable, since the laser has more range. Of course, if the missile turret did splash damage, you wouldn't care about it's generally mediocre stats, since you're hitting groups with it. All said, reasonable 'beta' version; a big of balance-tuning would make this much better. 3/5
