You changed the rules of Mah-jong, then used the correct rules for the "how-to-play"?

Every other mahjong game I've played lets you use any tile that's exposed to the left or right, then stacks them up. You also require them to not have anything to the top or bottom of the tile. Weird, why change the rules but still call it mahjong?
