I think you should improve your graphics a bit (for example your sponge bob(try to make him walk) and your game-over screen), improve the collision-checks (the borders are now not included in the collision-check, though it's better to add that to your collision-check), add a 'replay' button (just go back to frame 1) and your game already seems more professional. For a first game, its pretty good, but use the tips as help for creating better games.

so this is your first game it is good but ( ive i have copied apologies i didnt read any comments) you could try to begin to make an background that moves the higher you go. let spongebob walk or run and let it to an animation when it gets damage oh and make the damage range more little cuz i was standing next to the spikes and was receiving damage. but this is a good begin. GOOD LUCK!!
