Yes, I'd MUCH rather explore the various puzzles without the lives. They don't add anything to the game except annoyance. (They severely reduce replayability.)

"The lives are a crucial part of the high score system, which wouldn't work without them." So change the scoring. Have a timer that counts down from 999 (or w/e) and faster times = more points. The game is pretty good as is, but when most people complain about lives and time limits you should listen and not explain why lives are needed. Keslen said it best. 3/5 as is, 4/5 if you don't assume you're right and everyone else is wrong and listen to the complaints.

Fun game, but why lives? Having a finite number of lives in a game like this is unnecessary. 3/5 with lives, 4/5 without
