You've done the basics, now it's time to improve your game by adding more stuff. Check the comments of robertt223 and Kitswulf. It's a long time no space invaders like reach the "hot new games" categorie on kongregate. Work a little more and maybe you'll reach it !
Also you should improve the speed of the player a little (say like 5% percent more), having a hero who move at slow speed generally makes games look boring. And mouse control could be nice too.

I would add a start screen where you can load credits, start game, etc.
more waves then 1
upgradeability (speed, weapons)
enemies that start atacking, take more than one hit to kill *based on weapon*
stuff like that.

But for your first time out, I cant really say there was anything bad, those were just sugestions for where you could take it if you wanted to.

The art is very nice and the controls are smooth if a little sluggish. For a first game this certainly isn't shabby. It would be nice to have a win screen, the fact that it's arrow keys and *space bar* rather than mouse, or something beyond a single iteration of Space Invaders. I think more levels, or some sort of tweak on the gameplay would be very useful, but as I said this is a respectable first showing, and I look forward to seeing more.
