Yea, way complicated for people who don't actually play musical instruments. It'd be great to pull up actual songs in the game and see how they work.
Plus, having to play 3 songs in a row for a show when the game mechanism isn't that fun to begin with is boring and takes too long.

It's much better than Punk-O-Matic as a game, but you kind of took the "O-Matic" part out. In the first one I liked being able to just hit "random" and get something I could listen to in the background for a bit. With this, making a single song is a huge amount of work.
