What does collecting gifts do for you? If they count towards a score, I couldn't tell. Maybe display a score based on level completion (with time bonuses maybe) and a set amount for gifts. Also, only having three lives is a bit discouraging and would probably make someone frustrated to the point where they don't want to complete the game.
