Dear dex,

Hello there and sorry for the late reply.

Regarding to the bug you reported on forum, we never got this problem reported before and we tried to reproduce it, but we never successfully reproduce the game freeze problem.

So besides halloween event time, did you ever met this problem? Will you keep an eye on under what kind of operation did this problem will occur?

Thanks and appreciate your understanding!

Castlot Team

It seems this bug is most likely halloween event related, or possibly my server cache was getting confused with the extra temporary content. Whatever the case, the symptoms have ceased with the cessation of sending hundreds of attacks out per day to find mats from horsemen in the world view (I CAN HAZ PUMPKIN AND BATZ!), and everything seems now to operate as it did before the Halloween event started. NO problem noticed anywhere or any time else though.

Perhaps the server was playing trick or treat with me! ;-]

Also, a heads-up: Longbeard has had consistent problems since updating to the latest java version. his problems were in the main solved by reverting to an older java version. Please be aware that means that something used by the game is incompatible with the newest java versions and needs to be looked at.

Thanks for your attention

robyn (dex)

It’s not related to the Halloween event (in reference to clock stoppage). The actual game freeze itself, which I have seen before, seems unpredictable and not very reproducible.

In regards to clock stoppage, just scroll around the world map far enough from your city. The clock will eventually stop. IT’ been like this since October 2012, when I first started playing this game at Clapalong.

Cities will also become invisible too. This issue is related to the Halloween event. Just find a city that was upgraded to the “Halloween” castle. Then scroll around the map. You’ll eventually find an invisible city with its annex lands the only thing to show that it is there. (For level 1 cities with no annex lands, then the flag would show that it was there.)

That’s probably a mistake. It might be Rosy Road to Glory like it is on other game sites instead of grail.

Donp14 is 100% correct. It is a cop-out. Is anyone really that stupid to believe that 40 pages of new seizes (400 cities) can be seized in 4 days by seizing them one city at a time? They went after those with score already as most people like 99% of you won’t spend that much effort on this game, whether it is 4 days or 4 months. But luckily for the crybabies, the devs made it easy. They had limited it to 5 per day during the event so 20 max, as in you can only take a maximum of 20 already-seized cities. No problem there, though. Just get a “buddy” on the other side to seize and abandon them to get around the limitation. Or have many “buddies” seize them and then you can seize your “buddies”.

Actually, the seize stealing whine is more of a shame tactic. I’ve seen people spend the entire WW event in truce while blasting anyone in chat about this imaginary “seize stealing”, giving us a sob story on how hard it was to seize blah, blah, blah only to lose it with a 1 cav attack. Reality check. You can take it back with a 1 cav attack. So the sob story is imaginary. As long as the city is seized, NOBODY has to worry about the city’s remaining wall defenses, which is why the 1 cav attack works. The only “difficulty” is the prestige loss (which is 0.5% of your current prestige at the time of the attack).

Then there’s the simpletons among you — people who seize more than they can protect. Nobody has an army limit of 400 so there is no way that players can protect 400 seized cities. You also don’t have an infinite supply of heroes either. And many of the seized cities are far from the main city — meaning very long march times. They are quite motivated to shame people into not attacking. As Sun Tzu once said, "The supreme art of war is to subdue the enemy without fighting. "

No, there are no changes to Rosy Road to Glory or the concurrent Ultimate Explore Gets Extended events. I have completed 1 UE at Clapalong and that was a 7-day event. You have to save keys prior to the event and use the golden keys you get along the way. If you were expecting to get 66 extra keys after the event, you won’t. But you can complete the UE. Certain veteran players had been complaining that you can’t even complete 1 round of UE, which is false.

Here, it is 10-days so you have plenty of keys to do them. Over at Kabam (which is also 10 days), I almost completed the Rosy Road event after 30 minutes except for one minor detail — cannot defeat the NPCs at level 85 Avalon. So I have a bunch of keys I can’t use for the event so I’m using them to get prestige instead until I am strong enough to beat level 85 at difficulty level 1. I got 9 days left.

Approaching the end of day 1 of the 4th WW Event. The highest scorer in exploits has 612, Dark.

The previous high scorer several hours earlier had over 2000. He was also a Dark. 1700 of that score came from a seize of one of the top 10 players and member of the #1 Bright league that was not in truce. After several seizes were retaken by a low level secondary account belonging to that Bright player (this is a merged server), he had abandoned them all and now has 0 exploits.

Going down the rankings page, starting with #1, players are in truce. This means that the only way to get exploits is to take already-seized cities (also called “colonies”).

This is funny in part of all of the trash talking that occurred after the last WW event when their alleged “agreements” broke down. Now we find them all in truce. Part of the argument was the taking of already-seized cities. These people deliberately created a situation, by trucing, that the only way to get exploits is to take already-seized cities. Thus, this completes the circle of their life. They blame the developers for their decision, of course.

At the end of every event like World War and FVF, players should at least see the final scores for three days after the event rather than have the scores disappear the second the event is over.

No. I also play on Clapalong, home of the first World War event.

Topic: Castlot / World War Event Part III

The WW Event is almost over with less than 24 hours left. The number one player in Exploits in the previous event started out as number 1 again even though I took 1600 from him after the PREVIOUS event, not to mention a few hundred by others. As predicted, he is spending most of this event under truce while others in his faction are actively trying to take seizes.

As a result he had dropped down to … number 2.

Not predicted was the claim that there was a rule agreed upon in the previous world war event.

The rule claims that players must NOT take sub-cities at all unless the main city was taken first. This rule was allegedly agreed upon in the previous WW event even though it is mentioned for the first time today. Those who attack sub-cities are referred to as “cheaters”, worse than “seize stealers”.

This doesn’t change the actual rules of WW event itself nor am I saying that this agreement even existed. I’m just noting the stories that people tell in world chat in order to shame people from attacking and trick people within their own faction or league to attack the opposition for them.

On a related note, I decided to become more active in seizing opposing faction cities. I had either sent spies or sent 1-cav attacks (to see their defenses) against three player accounts that are members of the same league. The spy report says that the players were trending offline even. By magic, all three destroyed their sub-cities, leaving only their main.

I’ve sent in a screenshot in a ticket at Clapalong (ticket ID 00064711).

I did find an invisible castle where the annexes showed up as normal rather than pumpkin patches.

Refreshing doesn’t help nor does clearing the cache ( Different castles might end going invisible after refreshing. There is no pattern on which castles will be invisible; it appears random.

Moving around the map (e.g. click on bookmark to go to another location) then scroll back to original location can sometimes cause the castles to reappear and appear normal.

Graphical glitches. I had earned the “King of Halloween” a couple of days ago and since then, I’ve seen graphical glitches. Other player’s castles are invisible with pumpkin patches for annex1 and annex2. Annex3 shows up as normal. Conqueror’s flag (if applicable) shows up as normal.

Re-read what I wrote. I’ll make it easy for you: “This is in addition to any ingredients accumulated from nearby headless horsemen that these secondary accounts had attacked.” This means that the secondary accounts are also used to attack headless horsemen. I have only been saying that since November 2, 2013 or about a week. I had only mentioned the daily gifts once while everything else was obviously ignored.

And those 50 secondary accounts would have provided all the peanuts needed for the main with many to spare. Let’s do the math. 14 days at 2 peanuts per account with 50 accounts. That works out to be 14 * 2 * 50 = 1400 peanuts. Pretty impressive considering you only need 60 peanuts to make all the brittles that you would ever need. Since we are talking math here, you also need 940 maltose. You get 1400. You need 1490 butter. You get 1400. So fall short by 90. The main account might actually have to go out an attack a few headless horsemen or use 54 accounts instead.

Clearly, the multi-account user would make more efficient use of his time by using his secondary accounts to attack nearby headless horsemen as I had been saying for a week. That should be obvious, yes? 10 accounts attacking 300 horsemen in an hour will yield more ingredients than 1 account attacking 100, right?

I already know how to search the map for headless horsemen. Other than lanterns, I already have all of the ingredients for all of the divine equipment. How is your progress?

Starting from scratch — meaning no ingredients, it will only take you a week. That gives you about a week to spare here in Kongregate, almost two weeks at Clapalong (since theirs is longer by 6 days). That “extra” time will all be used up accumulating lanterns.

I am not the one complaining about the low drop rate or the one who desires the ability to “exchange” ingredients with other players.

It is pretty obvious that the “exchange” system will only create more multiple accounts. It doesn’t take much effort to create a bunch of secondary accounts, click a button to get the daily “Special Login Gifts” and then “exchange” the free ingredients with the main account. This is in addition to any ingredients accumulated from nearby headless horsemen that these secondary accounts had attacked.

The biggest hurdle is not the ingredients you get from headless horsemen. The biggest hurdle was always the lanterns.

It requires less time with multi-accounts than it does with 1 account. With 1 account, you can only send a certain amount of attacks at a time before you have to wait for those attacks to return. While you wait, you get nothing. Thus, it makes sense to log on to another account while your first account is doing nothing but waiting for the attacks to return.

On server 6 here I already have the pumpkin necklace and there’s two weeks left in the event. And I don’t even play that often on server 6.

Time isn’t the issue nor is the drop rate for the ingredients.

The issue is the fact that scrolling around the map is irritating as hell and hardly anyone finds it enjoying. The only reason I’m doing it is to see if I can get all of the divine equipment. I also play at Clapalong where we get full screen and we can zoom in/out. It is a tremendous advantage to see more of the map. Since the quantity of ingredients is not dependent on the level of the horsemen, it makes more sense to send out 18 attacks at 18 level 1s (and thus, get far more ingredients) than it is to send out 1 attack at a single level 10. It is easier to make such decisions if you can see more of the map at the same time.

The other huge advantage is the ability to only need to send out only cavs. Here at server 6, I need to send out a full contingent since sometimes the closest horsemen are level 8s.

So far I find no issue in getting the ingredients at Clap. It is the lanterns that are of concern.

Regarding peanuts, we also get them as daily login rewards. We get enough peanuts from the daily logins to make 20 peanut brittles. We only need 30 peanut brittles total for the entire event. So only need 20 peanuts from world. If the drop rate for peanuts in world was too high, not only would we get excess peanuts we can’t use but it would also deprive us of other ingredients since each world battle only drop one type of ingredient at a time.

It looks like I will have a lot of excess peanuts at the rate I’m going.

Selling or exchanging ingredients with other players adds to the usefulness of multiple account usage.

Player A can hunt for headless horsemen around his three cities in X kingdom. While he waits for his cavs to return from the attacks, he logs on to his other account which is three hours by cavs away from his main account’s location and hunts for headless horsemen. When he waits for these attacks to return, he logs on to yet another account and launches attacks against headless horsemen from there and so on and so forth.

Then sells or exchanges ingredients to his main.

Topic: Castlot / Newbie Advice

I posted a version of this in the notice for my league. I maxed out the 1000 character limit and can’t add more. I’ll add in this thread when I get the chance.

Advice 1: Sell resources for gold and use gold to feed the dragon. Important during the 30-day Train Your Dragon period. This is your only chance to get the bonuses from the fruits.

Advice 2: Do explore quests every day and use all of your keys. Explore is your only source for scrolls (attack, defense, and production). You also get training scrolls but those are worthless.

Advice 3: Attacking or harassing active players within your faction can result in an all out war that you might not win. It is better to attack active players in the other faction during World War events. Even if they can beat you, they can’t do it every day like players in the same faction can.

Advice 4: There is no point to rise up in level too fast beyond level 50 or 60 unless the server is young and don’t have much players on it. It takes much time to accumulate experience for your cards. Once you hit level 50, take your time. It makes little sense to have a level 80 hero and level 80 senate when all you have are mid-level green cards.

Advice 5: The lower the level of your main hero, the more prestige you will get in explore quests. A level 50 doing level 110 Aether can earn 24395 prestige at level 10 difficulty. For comparison, a level 95 earns 14415 prestige.

Advice 6: The senate level of your sub-cities can be higher than your main city. By keeping your senate level of your main city low, you can’t accidentally level up your main hero since it is capped by the senate level of your main city. You can use your sub-cities as a portal to do your explore quests rather than use your main city. Higher level players will get a prestige penalty when trying to seize you but as we all know, that penalty won’t stop them. The obvious drawbacks are that you can’t do much in seizing or robbing and one of your cities don’t make much in gold.

Advice 7: During the 30-day Train Your Dragon period, don’t retrieve your fruits until the 29-day mark. When you claim them, they stay in your inventory for 5 days. By waiting, you effectively increase the training period to 34 days.

Advice 8: Some of the fruits claimed during the Train Your Dragon period increases stats by percentages. Use those fruits last after you consume the other fruits to maximize the benefits.

Advice 9: In participating in FvF and similar events, it is better to use attack scrolls when battling NPCs. There is no point in increasing defense (e.g. defense scrolls) when the quantity of NPCs is enormous. Then switch to defense scrolls when battling other players.

Advice 10: In FvF, the city next to the Boss must belong to your faction before proceeding. For example, Cumbria must be color BLUE (for Bright) before a Bright player can pass to Lord Blackmore.

Advice 11: In FvF, to trigger a raider legion, three of the NPC cities must be your faction’s color at the same time. It is not enough to defeat three NPCs or defeat 15 NPC units. The cities’ color must be your faction’s color so if an opposing faction takes over the city that would prevent your faction from having three cities with your faction’s color at the same time, the raider will not be triggered.

Advice 12: To win the FvF, you must kill as many NPCs as possible. This is called “farming” to the uninitiated. Those who complain about “farming” are actually not against farming at all; it is a deception. They are complaining because you are doing it at the same time he/she wants to farm and they might, I stress might, do a better job at farming than you. If they actually can do a better job at farming, then let them. Remember, the goal is to kill as many NPCs as possible. If they can’t, ignore them and continue your farming.

Topic: Castlot / Question 2

If a high level player has over 60 level 80+ seizes within half hour (by mage) around his main city, what does that say to you, especially if nearly all of them belong to the same league?

Last man standing? Surrounded by league mates that quit?

Flag Post

Topic: Castlot / Question

I stumbled across those accounts a few days ago. I originally didn’t notice a thing, assuming that the “colony” was the result of the server merger. When I wanted to see the colony again (to spy), I mistyped the name (e.g. shaz instead of shazz) and found the other colony.

The only lingering issue is that these inactive accounts (all inactive accounts, not just the multi-acounts) are now used to help their conquerors by supplying them with levy troops and/or providing a location to store excess troops since their barracks and tents are full (i.e. a colony of fourth tents). Sending spies to the cities don’t reveal how many levied troops are there. Robbing won’t reveal levied troops, either. The only way to find out if there are levied troops there is to try to seize. And if you succeed in seizing the city with 1 cav, then people go on a whine-fest for seize stealing. If you fail, then they go on another whine-fest for trying to seize steal (when in reality, you found their stash of excess troops with your 1 cav attacks).

Flag Post

Topic: Castlot / Question

You mean like shaz.s22 (Bright) and shazz.s22 (Dark) being from the same server? Yes. I would agree that it does violate the no multi-account rule but I don’t think this person was using the alt accounts to cheat. It seems like this person simply wanted to play both Bright and Dark. Then the account pairs got merged into 1 server. These accounts have been inactive for quite sometime now and weren’t “activated” out of the blue during World War. (At least to me, they look inactive.) Playing so many accounts, she probably burn herself out.

Her naming convention reminded me of another game. The game had many accounts with the name XMEN1, XMEN2, XMEN3, etc. and people complained about it in the forums.

Topic: Castlot / Question

Suppose you found the following accounts on a merged server:

And all of the city names are variations of SinCity, SinnCity, SinCity3, etc.

There are 5 Dark versions and 5 Bright versions. There are all grouped together to form its own Dark and Bright colonies. There is also a KIKI1 account next to the Dark versions that follow the same naming convention for his cities.

What conclusion can you make about the above accounts?

Difficulty in being original?

All of the accounts appear inactive now.

Topic: Castlot / World War Part II

Another tactic to use is to ROB already-seized cities blind. The conquerors do NOT get any messages as to who did the robbing as their levied troops are not used in the defense of the city. Nobody complains about “seize robbing”.

The only way the conqueror would know who did the robbing is, of course, they also own those accounts (i.e. they are multiple account abusers). And even if they are multiple account abusers, they probably have not logged on to these secondary accounts in a long time since it is not necessary to log on to these secondary accounts in order to levy the cities.

On one of the servers I play on, one of the top money players have an entire colony of 15 seized cities at coordinates 160.703, all nicely packed for robbing. Too bad it takes nearly 2 hours for my elite cavaliers to reach. During World War events, it is only 30 minutes for the Darks. The 15-cities belonged to a league mate of hers.

Flag Post

Topic: Castlot / Suggestions for Castlot

Merging doesn’t solve the participation issue. Advertising the game addresses that. I just happened to stumble on this game a while back and have not found a game to replace this.

And I have been on servers where the participation was very high to the point that I could not keep up on world chat. You know what happened? Participation died down because the remaining players formed a virtual version of an online gang that crosses both factions, squeezing out players that are not part of the gang. The top money players are working together, “trading sub-cities” as they call it in World War events.

The only challenge they have is relics and arena. The world map is just an “add-on” to the game for them at this point.

Flag Post

Topic: Castlot / World War Event Suggestion

The game is setup to be Darks versus Brights. It is not working that way.

As of now, players keep their exploit scores from one event to the next, provided that they keep the cities.

I suggest that exploit scores RESET TO ZERO. This is similar to arena scores except it goes to zero for all players.

This is to help combat collusion among Dark and Bright players trying to stay on top while members of their respective factions, including their own league mates, remain at the bottom. This does not even include the use of alternate accounts.

By having to reset the scores to zero, these accounts will at least have to work out the logistics of “swapping” or “trading” sub-cities as they call it or to put in another way, “sanctioned seize stealing”. It does not matter if they are in collusion or they are using alternate accounts; they are all in the same boat. They have to work out the logistics.

Without the scores being reset, they don’t have to do anything at all. On my server, there are opposing faction flags everywhere but nobody but me are taking those cities. All other players have been scared or shamed into submission, which is pretty stupid.

This allows the current King to stay King and the current number one league to again receive magic potions as rewards.

Resetting the scores at least makes them do some work to earn the titles and magic potions.
