Topic: War of Omens / TEAMS!

I think a co-op mode could only work so long as you cannot interact with your allies’ cards. Otherwise there would be an inordinate amount of exploits, especially if your partner is allowed to use a different faction. Spy network + Song of Spring, Mogesh + Endazu tanks, Shrine of Rebirth + Vestipole, etc.

Even if you are restricted to your own cards, there are still likely to be major balancing issues. Mayhem and infighting spring to mind. There would have to be some sort of gameplay changes to make co-op work.

I can indeed usually see the reasoning behind most of the changes in mechanics. But I still find them irritating, especially when a small nerfing would have done the job. Ysadora and Barbarus are the examples that come to mind. I think what really gets me about changing card mechanics is when it ruins combinations of cards that I spent a lot of time upgrading. The first uncommon I fully upgraded was War Goats, but when the new herds dropped, it didn’t fit any more. Had I known this would become the function, I might have chosen to upgrade something else. I imagine this irritation would be much worse had I spent more money to obtain them and it does make me a bit loathe to do so in the future.

Ok, there are some great points I haven’t considered yet and I’m really glad this thread took off.

I really liked the point of too many cards making the game harder to get into. If I’m being totally honest, that’s a substantial part of why I stopped playing several other CCGs. However, I think the way that this game has been developing mitigates that risk. First, you have the selection of which card to acquire/upgrade and the amount of grind to buy packs is really low. So long as they don’t have more than say, five factions running, building a deck will never take particularly long, though upgrading might.

Power creep is a result of card designers getting lazy. Oh, I’m going to make a clone of this other card, but with a different name and more power for the same cost! That’ll get them excited! So long as new cards introduce other functions and open up new strategies, power creep is all but non-existant. MTG is a great example. I have friends who can still hold their own in open tournaments running a series 2-6 deck, but can still lose to newer decks. The devs have thus far shown no signs of power creep to me.

And kikix, I already felt like all of the cards WERE usable in some niche, including the old herds. I absolutely agree that cards being relevant is important, though.

I would normally agree with you, but this can also be solved by adding new cards to the pool, allowing new strategies to emerge. I was so stoked when the Endazu came out because I was so eager to have all of my strategies wrecked. Printing counters seems like a much better way of holding interest than repeated changing.

And besides all of that, a game with as much potential for strategy as this one can hold its own with a well-tailored card pool. I mean, Chess hasn’t had a patch in hundreds of years (unless you count 3D Chess), but you don’t hear their community complaining about it.

Am I the only one who’s getting tired of the constant card changing in this game? I can’t remember the last time a week has gone by without at least one substantial card alteration. Changing the price or scale of a card is one thing, but actually changing what cards do entirely is really starting to get frustrating.

I get that there’s a need to keep the game “balanced”, but as long as each strategy has a functional counter, the meta will balance itself. Major balance issues really ought to be spotted in beta testing. I took one look at the new herds and thought “They’re going to nerf the aurochs and probably some other stuff”.

If I have to change multiple decks every week, how long before I just stop bothering? I really like this game. It’s the first on Kong I’ve actually spent money on. There’s still the campaign and new faction to develop, so it’s not as if the devs don’t have other things to work on (all of which I am genuinely excited for).

So why this obsession with changing everything? Am I just being a cranky old man?

I wouldn’t label inq as broken, per se, since it is fairly easy to counter. But given the current meta, it is WAY more useful than warship and ESPECIALLY Holy Wrath. Since you can feed with Magic, inq is basically a more versatile Holy Wrath for the same price, which is what seems most unfair to me. The only advantage wrath offers is the possibility of multiple draws without losing resources, but given the cost, I’m guessing most decks would go straight for the kill after purchase.

Topic: Clash of the Dragons / Suggestions

I find myself waiting for insane amounts of time to start Colosseum tournaments, due to lack of participation. This is of course, because anyone without talisman of agility and/or magic lamp doesn’t stand a chance. However, I think if devs were to give everyone tickets say once a week (without letting tickets stack), lower lvl people could enter them often enough so one doesn’t have to wait over half-an-hour to find 3 other participants who are 100+ levels higher than you.

I finished z1 on the nightmare difficulty, but then had trouble moving to z2. After refreshing the page, I am no longer able to move to z2 with either the nightmare or hard difficulty (I’d been able to access hard setting before). Is this a bug, or intentional? If intentional than it is lame, bc it completely removes motivation for playing on other difficulty settings. I’m not going to carve through each zone 3 times in the hopes of a challenge.

Topic: Tyrant: General Tyrant Discussion / Turn cap?

Is there a limit to how many turns can occur in a match? I was on bloodthirsty nest 4, and the only remaining card in either deck was mine, but as it was wearing down Ascaris’s health, I was just slapped with a defeat notification at around turn 50.

So… what gives?

I have also had two commanders “eaten”, as you kids seem to say. Including an Atlas.

Also, sometimes my battles will just freeze, and I have to reload the page without my energy being refunded.
