nu-metal is not really metal.

Are you daft? Nu-metal is a fusion genre, containing elements from many other subgenres of metal such as groove metal, thrash metal, et cetera with elements from other genres such as hip hop or industrial. You’ve no clue what you’re even talking about. If something has pronounced elements from several subgenres of metal, it is quite obviously metal, hence nu-metal.
