Zshadow does bring a good point though, there are much more popular cliches than slimes. Walking skeletons seems to be pretty popular cliche and appear in many more games than slimes from what I’ve seen.

I’ve fought rats in Baldur’s Gate and A Bard’s Tale (PS2 at the start). Well, undead are a very famous enemy type in any RPG. Makes your cleric seem invaluable to the party at that given stage. In fact, right now, there are new mmo’s that have you battling zombies and other monsters – Ghosts and Goblins. Based on the old Capcom game I believe.
