I know that this has been brought up before, but I’m going to revive it… Kill the sound in the elf castle. There is no reason why there needs to be sound at all in this game. Either that or add a mute button.. Also, why hasn’t this been done on any of the weekly updates? All it would take is to erase the sound clip file.

Thanks for the advice everyone, I took a look at the ActionScript 2.0 LiveDocs and I’m having the same problem I’m having with the book i have. The knowledge is all there I’m sure… but I don’t know what to look up to look for it.

So i’ll state my new problem: I placed a few gotoAndStop() and gotoAndPlay() commands in the code for my Player.as file that corresponds with the movie clip.

Now it looks like this:

Ok so for those of you who know what’s going on I’m sure you can see right away that there is something wrong here (unlike me). I test the movie after I typed this all out and now the character stands still when there is nothing be pressed (GREAT!) and when I press RIGHT he slides right with the standing animation (BOO!!!). However, when I press LEFT he slides left with only the first frame of the running animation (sorta O.K but still mostly BOO!!!).

Once again I have the clips set up so that there is a main one called Player, and inside that clip are 2 clips. One in frame one (Standing, a single framed animation) and one is frame two (Running, a many framed animation).

Topic: Game Programming / basic questions for making a platform game

Hey everyone. I started making a platform game after i completed the shootorial on Kongregate. That game me a basic knowledge of how this stuff works and so i set out to make a platform game. I’ve successfully a movie clip and inside that made 2 more movie clips, one that shows the sprite of my character running and one that is just him standing still. This is all from looking at the various platformer tutorials online and trying to piece it together.

I was also able to get my character to move left and right by pressing the left and right keys and I was able to get the character to flip and face left when he is running that way.

Now the problem im having is this: How do i get it so that when my character is standing still without a button being pressed, he is using the standing clip and when there is a button its the running clip?

This is what i have so far for coding…

(and when i test the movie the character just flips between the first frame of standing and the first frame of running….)
