Topic: Legacy of a Thousand Suns / Doomcat's and SReject's scripts to make raid links readable in chat

Originally posted by TarkaBear:

ok some features ive enjoyed from forks in dotd that id like to see in your script in LotS.

a search bar on the raids tab so i can quickly cut down list to find x or y raid.

A button to delete ALL raids on raid page.

When i right click a raid in the raid catcher list, for the ‘visited’ tickbox to become clicked without me having to do it manually. (leads to 100 more clicks in 100 raids, adds up, one of the dotd forks does this, plz do it too)

Okay, so, I think doomscript does just about everything you’re thinking of, it just does it differently than Raid Catcher.

If you’re looking for specific raids in your chat history, you can open the menu (above the game on the blue bar, left most icon is a windowy thing), and then using the text box in the Raids tab, type like crush|bash|miss to find a list of those raids. Or, if you’re feeling fancier, you can type {os: <5M} to list raids with Optimal Share less than 5 million. Or {fs: <5M} to find raids with fair share less than 5 million. Or {zone: 19} to find zone 19 raids. There’s more options than that, but I won’t go into them all now.

If you want to delete all raids from your script history, you can do /clearraids all. Alternatively, you can use the same filters mentioned above (name1|name2|etc or {fs} or {os} ones) like /clearraids {zone: 19} to only clear those from memory.

If you want right-click to mark raids as visited, you can open the menu (above the game on the blue bar, left most icon is a windowy thing), and then go to the Preferences Tab and turn on the “Right-click should mark raids visited.”

Note: I realize it’s been nearly a year after the post I’m quoting, but if anyone else comes across this thread, I want them to know these things are possible.

Topic: Legacy of a Thousand Suns / So, what's the deal with raid scripts not working?

Yeah, the latest changes to the way Kong’s pages load was causing an unrecoverable error in doomscript. Getting the latest version from http://userscripts.org/scripts/show/124753 (shortened: tinyurl.com/doomscript) to get up to version 1.1.22 will solve the issue. Sorry for the inconvenience.

Originally posted by Mastertek:

i kinda hesitate to apply you guys’ script on my personal computer… is everyone around here using this…?

If you have specific concerns, you may wish to look into GreaseMonkey Security or read the source code of either my current LoTS script or SReject’s current LoTS script You may also find solace in the fact that across our individual scripts, we have over 20,000 downloads and installs, which puts our combined effort in the top 1.7% of downloads of any user scripts in existence. Yet with all those downloads, you won’t find a single accusation of hacking, phishing, or other unsavory practices (of course, there are always trolls, but no legitimate accusations).

As far as I can tell, there are extremely few players who play LoTS (or DoTD for that matter) for more than just a few days, who want to really participate in the community, and who want to really succeed at the game that don’t have a script by SReject or myself (or both!) installed for one or both games (though I don’t have a DotD script).

Obviously, my assertion that we’re trustworthy doesn’t mean a lot, but if you ask around in the chat rooms, I’m certain you’ll hear the same thing.

I’ll be addressing the DotD script conflict before the weekend is out, and this change will probably constitute v1.0.22 of doomscript. Alternatively, I believe this should already be fixed in this later version of doomscript that isn’t published yet

Topic: Legacy of a Thousand Suns / Doomcat's and SReject's scripts to make raid links readable in chat

I coded pretty much the entirety of doomscript with Chrome/Mac as my test browser, so I know that it works there. My testing has shown that doomscript also works in Firefox with the GreaseMonkey extension, Opera, and Rockmelt (a Chromium derivative). Safari and IE do not support scripts the same way the other browsers do, so until those browsers change, it’s unlikely that SReject or myself will get around to supporting them.

007RedSkull is probably talking to me on that one, and that’s on my todos. I’ll add the list to my first post in this thread

Latest version of doomscript is 1.1.22 as of April 8, 2013, and the latest version is always available at http://userscripts.org/scripts/show/124753, as MeanGun said.

I don’t believe SReject’s scripts are maintained at this time, so until you see an update from him, you will most likely find it beneficial to use mine (since it’s still receiving updates).

I think we’ll continue to see a lot of FPS games, as they sell really well, and consumers tend to like them. If you want to see non-FPS games, I’d consider getting a Wii. For the other consoles, it does look like FPS continues to dominate. Here’s some charts for the past 7 years of console game sales: http://vgsales.wikia.com/wiki/Best_selling_games_(seventh_generation)

As for PC games, a lot of indie firms are producing lots of good original games. Consider purchasing the Humble Indie Bundle (for as cheap as $0.01, but if you have the money, at least do the average)

Whoops, Textile failure on my part. I meant that you could google for Type Browser Here Full Screen Mode

I know I’m late to this shouting match, but I measure the game to be about 760px wide by 660px tall (including the friends area at the bottom). I kind of feel like if you don’t have enough usable browser space to play the game, you must be doing something wrong. Now, the chat box seems to be about another 305px wide by 880px tall (including the tabs at the top), so I can see how that might not fit.

All that being said, the game fits quite happily on my 13" laptop monitor at 1280×800 resolution in Chrome. Per http://www.screenresolution.org/year-2011/ 45.02% of users tracked would have trouble fitting the chat, and 33.25% might have trouble fitting the game if they have more than 108px of browser and OS bars taking up space.

Most browsers that I know of allow you to hide the bars and gain more space for those that may be having trouble. Firefox and Chrome typically use F11 on Windows/Linux or I think Cmd-Shift-F on Mac for full screen. You might google for <type> Full Screen Mode=<Type+Browser+Here>+Full+Screen+Mode

Not that I’m an expert, but I tend to feel like relying on the client to do any “mission-critical” verification is a poor strategy to prevent cheating. Correct me if I’m wrong, but there’s nothing stopping me from decompiling your client, removing any anti-cheat code, recompiling, and launching against your server.

If I read it correctly, skyboy was suggesting a sort of crowdsourced anti-cheat mechanism; each client determines whether or not the other clients are cheating. I worry, though, that if in a game, 4 players are cheating together and 4 players are not, who is the server to believe? Or, even more scary, what if 4 players have hacked clients but are playing correctly, and they report that the other 4 unhacked players are cheating, even though they are not? Obviously, there is a barrier to entry to these kinds of hacks that prevent the average gamer from pulling them off, but it only takes one pro hacker to distribute it to others.

One thing I definitely agree with is that you have to keep the client-server data transfer minimal if you want the game to play smoothly, so you definitely can’t rely on the server to tell you everywhere you need to be. I usually go with a “trust, but verify” model on these kinds of things by which I mean that the client should respond as if it’s model of events is correct, and the server corrects them.

Googling around, it seems that my ideas are similar to what is already in place in Quake Engine and Half Life Engine games. http://web.cs.wpi.edu/~claypool/courses/4513-B03/papers/games/bernier.pdf

Topic: Kongregate / Special Background Skins for Games

So, a number of games as of late, especially ones with tickets, seem to have special background skins. I went surfing through the CSS to see what all there was and I found three that I didn’t recognize.

http://www.kongregate.com/images/skin_sprint_landing.jpg

http://www.kongregate.com/images/presentation/labs/skin_flyinghero.jpg

http://www.kongregate.com/images/presentation/labs/skin_towers.jpg

Obviously, the last two seem to be from the Labs, but I hadn’t seen any pages using them, as far as I can remember at least. Any thoughts and/or links to pages containing these?

Sorry, I had to make a comment about this. R1 is done and never coming back. Right now, there are 5 types of cards you can have as far as I know. Original release, Release 1, Release 2 (not all, yet), Starter, and Kred purchased. The capital lettter (and number, if included) helps indicate when and why you got the card. You can’t get any more R1 cards because Release 1 is over. Each release is like a reprint, and you can never redo the same release. If you’re missing cards, you’ll just try to have to get them in R2.

If I were a mod, I would help everyone because I personally believe that Kongregators are unable to be nice in the chat because …uh… some …erm… people out there in our Kongregate don’t have sense, and …uh… I believe that our games like such as in Casual Collective and …uh… the Nonoba, everywhere like such as and I believe that they should uh our games over here in the Kongregate should help the Kongregate or- or- should help Casual Collective and should help the Nonoba and the NewGrounds so we will be able to build up our future. Thanks!
