to OP, do you only listen to the 3 bands you mentioned in your first point exclusively?

let me try this for you.

1. Metal is all screaming:

There are plenty of metal bands that don’t implement harsh vocals, classic metal, most classic doom metal, I challenge you to find me a power metal band that uses extensive growls; bands to prove this statement; Black Sabbath, Spiritual Beggars, Stratovarius.

2. Metal has no lyrics/can’t understand them:

See above. The reason people say that is because of growls.

3. Metal is Satanic:

A common misconception is that black metal bands are satanist, wrong. Black metal features lyrical content based on a wide range of subjects including [but not limited to] anti-religion, sadness, despair, nationalism, drugs, mythology etc.

4. Metal has no talent:

If anyone honestly thinks that then I suggest you listen to Dissections “The Somberlain”. The Entire album is built up on classical form, youtube “Into Infinite Obscurity”

5. All metal talks about is death and sadness:

The vast majority of black/death metal bands do feature elements of this from time to time, maybe all the time, that is up to the songwriter/s of the bands, it is a sweeping generalisation to say that all Motley Crue sings about is death and sadness when they mostly talk about drugs and getting your dick wet.

REMEMBER:

The important thing to remember is no matter what genre you enjoy or associate yourself with, there will always be someone who doesn’t like it out of ignorance or general dis-appeal, and they WILL make arrogant statements, people say rappers are untalented, just because they can’t blast out a 3-octave scale doesn’t mean that they are bad.

I’d challenge Jeff Loomis to try and sing along to Busta Rhymes’ “Break Ya Neck”
