Thanks Konquake!
So, you found the written instructions better then the drawn one? Because the odd thing is, the version with the drawn instructions has much a higher score then the one with the text instructions! I guess humour does beat logicalness…
What do you think, guys? What scores did you give?

In Search of the Holy Game
Dear Readers,
Great news! I have (now already) created the second investigation point for this experiment. I must admit it wasn’t that hard to create, but it is a really important subject! Namely: Instructions.
So, have fun reading the article, choose on of the links at random, play that game and rate it and (if you want) play the others too (but don’t rate them)!
http://sir-realism.com/blog/?p=291
Please tell me if you agree with me that this IS an important subject!
Cheers,
~Sir Realism

But is it Asam3? IS a book with pictures more fun to read. After the age of 10 you (almost) never read books with pictures any more. Is this because people don’t want to read fun books? I don’t think so. I guess we can conclude that the age of the person who is playing a game is also important to know what he thinks is important for a game to be good/fun. Thanks! Asam3, you gave me a hole new inside in this research. ^^

Yes, Souperman22 they ARE dull games! But they are supposed to be dull! This is not me showing off my (sucky) games. This is me trying to do a research, an investigation, an experiment! By having people grade (only one of) these games I can see how much more important art is opposed to no art. With my next version I’ll discuss sound/music. And the non-art version now will be used for music too, one version with music and one version without but both of them without (art). The non-art version (and later non-sound version) are like the placebo’s of this investigation. Something to look at to see how people would react to this game without the special enhancement I’m investigating!

Jep Konquake, I guess it’s safe to say that art is REALLY important. But since I (a bit too late) changed the rules a bit, the rates might change even more. We’ll see that later on! ^^

Stoic001, Thank you! You are the first person to tell me something useful! I must admit that having people only rate one of the 2 games would make it a lot better. Of course it might be a bit late by now, but I’ll try to change it as fast as possible! ^^
thanks!

Asam3, I appreciate you took some time to play both games. But what you are saying clearly shows you haven’t understood (or haven’t read) what the purpose of these two games is. One of the two should obviously be a lot worse than the other one, but that’s hole point! By looking at HOW much worse it is, we can find out HOW important art is for a game.
In other versions (and versions of) this game I’ll investigate matters like sound/music or explanation vs autodidactic skills. Anyways, thanks for taking the time to look at both games! I hope it is all a lot more clear! ^^
Cheers,

In Search of the Holy Game
Dear Readers,
I am conducting a research to find out how import certain aspects of a game are. I am doing this by slowly creating a simple game for which I will upload (per version) two different versions (jep, a version of a version) for every new concept. The first will have the new concept and the second one won’t. I will ask people to play one of them (chosen at random) and then grade it on how much they enjoyed playing it. They are allowed to play them both, but only to rate the first one they played! In the end I’ll be capable of seeing how much better a game becomes after having this new concept implemented, by comparing the different ratings they got. The more ratings I have the more accurate my research will be! About once a week I will upload a new version (with 2 different version) for a new subject. The first subject is: Gameplay Versus Art
I hereby invite you to help me with this investigation by playing and rating the different versions of the game!

Ps. Please tell me what you think of this research! ;)

[Kongregate API] High Scores
With Play Oh, the Huge Manatee! It says exactly the same at the beginning, but then it DOES get an extra tab in the chat window saying “score” and with my game it doesn’t!
It’s ridiculous…

So, basically you’re saying that the light indicates everything is okay… But the message:
nfo: Handling connection…, isConnected=false, attemptingConnection=false
Tells me otherwise…
Has anyone ever seen anything like this??? I really wanna upload my game…But I can’t because this stupid API won’t work….>:(
Thanks for the help!

[Kongregate API] High Scores
When I add ?debug_level=3 to the games url it tells me:
Info: Listening for connection…
Info: Handling connection…, isConnected=false, attemptingConnection=false
Info: Kongregate Packet[admin] {"mParams":{"req.id":0,msg.id,success,“stamp”:"2445939089188"},“mOpcode”:"hello"}
Info: Hello message received from server.
btw the statistics seem to be working fine…
Is that useful?
Thanks for all the help until now!

[Kongregate API] High Scores
Hellow guys,
I finished a game called Evolution Squared. I want to upload it to Kongregate WITH API implemented. So in the first frame I have my AS say:
_root.kongregateServices.connect();
Then in the startmenu I have some AS calling the highscores thing in your chat window:
var scoresCallback:Function = function (result:Object) {
trace(“High score result, success=”result.success);
for (var i:Number = 0; i<result.list.length; i) {
var position:Number = i1;
trace(position+". “result.list[i].username” – "+result.list[i].score);
}
};
_root.kongregateScores.requestList(scoresCallback,this);
My game seemingly ignores this, because nothing seems to happen. In the left down corner it says:
transferring data from www.kongregate.com
and then after waiting some time:
Read cdn4.kongregate.com
And just nothing happens. Then later I have it submit my highscore:
_root.kongregateScores.submit(TotalScore);
And also nothing happens when I do that. Why doesn’t it work???
Thanks for reading!
Cheers!

Not noticing anything is GREAT! Because I drastically reduced the quality, making the music (in my ears) sound muffled! But if you didn’t notice a thing then that makes me a very happy man! =D
^^ thanks and cheers!

Okay, here is a little test:
If you have played E^2 before then please replay it. Just play though it and carefully listen to the music and sounds. When you’ve finished a game or died or got bored, please tell me if you noticed something.
This might sound weird, but it is REALLY important to me XD
Cheers!

The volume bug is fixed. and the bug with the up and right not working together is merely a disfunction of your keyboard. It is a known problem with flash applications that some keyboard inputs cannot be detected at the same time, this mostly depends on your keyboard. I guess… Not that I’m an expert. But you should try looking it up on wikipedia or something.

And as a reply to Draco18s
The language in which the yellow food info is written doesn’t have a C or a Q. the < is a K and a C and a Q. But when the C is pronounced as an S than you should use the C. =D
