Topic: Off-topic / Intelligent Design?

Why do creationists say the Bible disagrees with evolution? Why can’t they say that God “intelligently designed” animals to evolve?

Seems convenient.

I don’t see anything in the Bible that says that all animals have looked exactly the same forever, but then again, I didn’t read the Bible. Also, pretty sure that you could just chalk that up to a “mistranslation” or something, because that’s what fundamentalist Christians like to do whenever they find two accounts in the Bible that don’t match.

Given the amount of posting, I doubt that the game can even continue, as so few people seem to be active. Really, Day 1 killed this game. Even AdeebNafees and other people who used to post a lot are very quiet, myself included.

I think the town’s opinion is fairly clear on who should be executed, it’s Sabin. I haven’t counted the FoSes yet but I’m pretty sure that it’s substantial, and this day has gone on for longer than a week. The thread is getting tiring and pretty stale. Adeeb, your decision? Are you going to lynch on town’s decision or your own? And hopefully soon too.

Just a quick edit, after reading the other posts more thoroughly (mostly Zzzip and Devourer) I agree with Devourer’s comments on RaceBandit. It’s suspicious.

Enderduck looks innocuous. He clearly hasn’t been reading the thread, and probably isn’t a lurker.

Anyways, I like how I previously said we need to wrap this up, and then I immediately accuse two new people in my next comment.

I could choose not to say anything and be a robot deity who controls everything, but getting people’s opinions is generally something people who want other people to like them do. That being said, maybe I shouldn’t half-arse it regarding roleclaiming. People can roleclaim whenever they like from now on, and that’s the last time I change my mind on that, I promise.

Ok, but as allowing roleclaiming may hurt some sides/roles, the discussion you get here is likely biased. Anyways, I’m happy with that.

@Adeeb:

I’ll try to keep things brief, and sorry about any ambiguous statements regarding my activity. I think you guys are really over-thinking it.
First, I’m really unsure about Devourer. I agree with what he said, and I think his FoS was a bit of a joke. I’m not too sure why you’re so eager to lynch him. More on that later. I think that I have a better candidate for possible mafia.

Scum will not care about WHO is voted for, just that someone is killed.

From the helltank bandwagon, It’s clear who possible mafia candidates are. Mafia just want to avoid suspicion and quickly lynch people to end the day and avoid tripping themselves up. They don’t really care about who is killed, just someone not mafia. Walford and Sabin right now are incredibly suspicious, since they quickly agreed with each other as if they were on the same team. There didn’t seem to be much discussion, just agreement. As numerous people like Jaskaran have pointed out, lynching helltank is pointless, as he’s almost certainly not a mafia. Power roles would care enough to at least confirm their role. Because of this of BS’ed reasoning to just lynch someone, and the quick agreement, FoS Sabin7 and walfordking. (hopefully that was short enough)

Also, if anyone gives a better reason for voting somebody other than Helltank on day 1, I’ll gladly consider. /hypocrisy

Yeah, Jask gave an excellent reason about 12 hours before your post, I really don’t know what you’re playing at.

About devourer, I think that some suspicions can be afforded on your part, but I would suggest putting that off until later. I’m not backing him up or anything, but I think we have a better lead with helltank’s bandwagon.

On “lurkers”:

I think that’s mainly the problem with mafia with 18 people, the signups went on for so long we scraped up people who didn’t actually care about playing. If they got trash roles (i.e. Townie) then they probably didn’t even want to play. I feel like they’re all probably townies. That being said, it’s also unlikely that they’re all townies as well. “TheDoombringer, Enderduck, helltank and Behemoth” are probably people who don’t like mafias who got townies. Sebba and efar I think are lurking, since they’ve made marginal posts, so if you want to go for lurkers, I would prioritize them over the others. As for walford, you already know what I think. Also, you might want to be a bit cautious, since Kingmaker might be staying silent as well. I’m sure that you approve of the current Kingmaker (since he made you king :D).

Wow, that was still long. Sorry.

@BC

Regardless of whether or not roleclaiming is allowed, you shouldn’t be listening and taking advice from people playing the game. (or even worse, letting us vote about rules) As a person who knows everything about this game, you should be silent and not saying anything. I’ve played many mafias, and the best hosts never say anything beyond night actions. These people have biased opinions (myself included). You are god of this mafia. You should not be listening to whatever we say. In that case, feel free to not listen to me, because I may be doing this to further some agenda (under my own logic), but really, please don’t interfere. It’s not good “hostmanship”. I even feel that you shouldn’t be clarifying rules either.

The time to decide rules are over now that the game has started. You don’t let football players change how much a touchdown is worth midway through the game, so you shouldn’t be editing any rules now that mafia has started. The way I see it, nothing was ever mentioned about roleclaiming in your posts before the game started, so it’s fair game. It makes things very confusing by adding rules midway, rules which are still under discussion for that (see the continuing posts for more bickering). I’m not clear on this whole roleclaiming business, and it makes this mafia tougher to play in an annoying way since I don’t want to break any rules. In fact, I didn’t see anything really bad in beginning post, so I don’t think you’re a bad host, but I think continuing to clarify rules is really detracting from the gameplay. Either don’t say anything, or have an iron fist and just make all the rules. You are god. You definitely have to do one of those two things. There is no arguing with god.

Anyways, back to the game:

A little off-topic, but it bothers me that you state that its a given that you will state that you will be willing to give time. It implies that regardless of any sudden real life events, you won’t notify the rest of us about it, leaving your answer as only a shallow appeal to town.

I have no idea what this means. Do you mean that I should have answered something along the lines of “I don’t care about this mafia and I won’t be too active?” Anyways, I’ll always have about 5 minutes of spare time to read this thread, so if something important goes down and I don’t have hours to craft a masterful response, then I’ll let everyone know, I guess.

Anyways, reading various questions, I feel we’re not getting anywhere. This is just a flurry of questions back and forth, and it’s tough to keep track and get myself together. I think we need more organization now. Adeeb, you should call some final discussion to make your vote soon. I’m all for discussion, but this constant back and forth between two people is clogging the thread. I suggest two things for wrapping up the day: 1. We should implement some strategy, as we’ve discussed here, like possible future kings, etc, etc (I think your response to me had a good strategy). And 2, after getting some strategy for the second day, then we should bring it to a vote, and then you should make your decision.

I know that you want to analyze people more, of course, and that’s fine if you want the day to go on longer, but at the very least, we should have more ordered discussion. What’s happening now is counter productive.

Topic: Off-topic / My parents have started watching the show "Long Island Medium."

Actually, I read somewhere that psychics who specialize in curing depression have a pretty good track record, and it’s on par with medications. The idea is that the same way they “tell the future” by making obvious over general statements, can also help someone feel better if they pull their psychic BS on it. (“I see many hazy qualities in you, all of which are positive and interesting!”) There’s pretty well documented examples of how people who do nothing can help through the placebo effect, especially in a disorder like depression, which is pretty not well defined and broad. Depression is mostly cause by your state of mind, from what I heard, so yeah.

Especially since the people who go into see psychics are pretty gullible, it makes sense that a psychic might be able to change their world view if they listen. Anyways, not sure how this is related, but yeah, don’t hate on psychics too much. Plus they fascinate little kids. I’ve definitely seen kids get fascinated by their crystal ball and tarot card nonsense, so having a psychic is the equivalent of having a clown. It’s pretty effective.

All the good games do. I’ve never played games that were good games but had shitty music. A good game is good in all aspects, or at least passable, and every good game recently I’ve played have had stunning soundtracks that add to the gameplay.

I’m just going to post and hope I answer the questionnaire, for the most part.

Anyways, on the whole roleclaim business, that should definitely be allowed, and there’s no reason not to allow it. In any mafia I’ve played roleclaiming is always a part of the psychological mindfuck. To be honest, most people who don’t want roleclaiming are likely mafia. Since mafia have to lie about their role, they’re less predisposed to it and are afraid of getting caught in a lie, so roleclaiming is definitely a plus. It almost certainly works against the mafia, since it puts the pressure on them. That’s the general case, and for this roleclaiming seems even more so, since there are confirmed townies like from Kingmaker and Hero. Any mafia I’ve played has no rule on moderating discussion; anything can be said, and that goes for roleclaiming as well. There’s no way to prevent role claiming, and like Adeeb said, it’s a valuable tool.

Looking over the questionnaire briefly, most of the questions are dumb and really only predispose them to one answer, or “I don’t know”, which is just a waste of time. Of course I’m going to say that I am willing to devote time, of course I shouldn’t be lynched today (under my own opinion).

On the more open-ended questions where most people are just replying I don’t know, I would say that people that are quite active in the thread are more likely to have a power role, since it’s more exciting than townie. Since there are only 3 power roles, Hero, King, and Kingmaker (and King changes every turn, so doesn’t really count too much), I would say that being very active is likely a good indicator of mafia, if you just bring it down to random chance.

Anyways, for some more general strategies, I think we should have some way to confirm townie, and just have Kingmaker choose the same person as King every time. (Although not necessarily Adeeb, since we can’t confirm him as mafia or townie.) It gives a semblance of order and prevents chaos from erupting, and also prevents the chance of a mafia king, which is very undesirable. For whoever is future Kingmaker, I strongly suggest consistency, not just picking whoever you want. So, we should definitely find some way to confirm townie quickly. EDIT: Since I just read that the same person cannot be King twice in a row, let’s confirm 2 townies and switch between them every night.

Also, was there any ever mention from BCLegends on how many mafia there were? Is Adeeb’s estimate of 4 mafia correct? I can’t find any mention in the thread, and I’d really like to know, since it would help with the whole probability thing. It would also help us know when we need to make the right decision to avoid losing because the mafia outnumber us, etc. etc. Thanks.

P.S. In answer to Question 6, I’m not mafia, so don’t lynch me, and have I mentioned how handsome you are, Adeeb? :P

Better yet, why not everyone submit puzzledan? Then, whether or not he’s a demon or angel it seems like 4 people will progress.

Anyways, I’m just going to pick puzzledan because he’s first. Feel free to think of me as an angel or whatever, but I think everyone should just send in the same person. Personally, I think someone asking them to send in themselves is just slightly suspicious. Although it might be a bluff, though I don’t think it affects me that much.

Not gonna lie, the OP’s strategy is pretty shitty. But I guess if you’re not into chess (just playing for fun) then it’s fine. There are many more basic strategies that are better if you’re interested in learning.

Props for creativity, I guess?

So you say “along with three other (angels/demons),” but then you say exactly three must send in the name in the FAQ. Wouldn’t that be along with 2 others? Confused.

This is so not possible.

Suggested way of going through the round.

We need some third party who is completely neutral (he can’t be playing this forum game at all, since the people not playing this round don’t want any people coming back), to facilitate this exchange completely. Someone who everyone would just reveal their roles to and then correctly allocate names for everybody, AND then give those people who had their names sent in a list of four (angels/demons) so they can complete their side task and avoid being eliminated. Unfortunately, I don’t know how to do that. Suggestions?
