They did. From the update on October 23:

However, take note: You can only trade surplus candies for Halloween Event Chests while the event is running (but you can continue to buy the Jeweled Halloween Chests two days after the Halloween event has finished).

You can still buy a chest with Kreds, but you can’t trade tickets for one now that the event is over.

As many others have already expressed, the new layout is fine, but the salmon color is terrible, and I’d really like to see at least three recently played games right there on the games tab.

I do appreciate that you’re trying to improve the site.

Topic: Kongregate / [Split Test] Wide Feature Roll!

I’m in group 3. I like the wide feature roll a lot. The trending pod seems a bit overwhelming and doesn’t match the rest of the page much. I wouldn’t mind it if I could move it around or maybe shrink it down and have a “light” version of it, but as it is, it’s a bit annoying.

Speaking of that, would it be possible to allow user customization of the home portal page so we could select which modules we wanted to see and where they would appear? If anyone remembers iGoogle, I’m thinking about something along those lines.

Exactly. I’m a fan of limited free gold but definitely don’t like the way this particular event has played out. It would be nice if everyone had been allowed the same opportunity to earn at least a small amount of gold, instead of some having access to significant riches while others receive absolutely nothing.

Then again, that does make the game far more realistic. Go capitalism!

Interesting. Will you be posting a semi-objective review of each? Beyond your personal feelings about each room, it would be interesting to see some information on aspects of the rooms like:

  • overall activity level during your visit (total population? active population?)
  • response to newcomers, if any (how did they treat you and other new faces?)
  • general mood of the chat (were people generally pleasant/upbeat? not so much?)
  • some of the topics discussed

I float between rooms a lot, so some objective information about what you observe would be useful, to me at least.

Can we change to a daily whack cap PLEASE, everything else is day/hour based it would help with the continuity of the game 15/day would be 105 friend whack per week. up the cycle that a friend can be called to help whack to 1/wk.

I suggested switching to a daily cap yesterday in the chat. One of the devs replied that they didn’t want people to miss a day and be upset because they’d lost their daily friend whacks. They also didn’t want people to be able to “stack” the whacks and save up large amounts of them. I suggested allowing a “bucket” of several days worth of whacks to accumulate; one could store up to 45 friend whacks, so missing a day wouldn’t mean missing those whacks, but a player couldn’t accumulate more than three days worth of whacks at a time. The dev replied that they were happy with the way balance has been restored, and that it is unlikely they will make any changes to the system at this point.

I understand the energy system, but if the point of energy is to moderate gameplay and encourage pacing, having a weekly friend whack quota seems to work against that goal. It doesn’t seem likely to change, though, unfortunately.

Thanks for your advice.
We are sorry to say that the advice is not adopted because the limation on letter is used to avoid the spam on chat. Thanks for understanding.

If you are truly concerned about the quality of chat, you might consider implementing filters and hiring some chat moderators. This severe limitation on the length of messages serves little purpose. Helpful messages or meaningful conversations are discouraged because they’re too long, but short, pointless messages get through just fine. You already discourage spam through rate limiting and the loudspeaker system. If you want people to be able to communicate effectively and enjoy your game more, it would be helpful to increase the length of messages that are allowed on the chat.

Decimus’ review was honest, detailed, and useful. 17 Amazon users seem to agree. Although it is deceitful and shameful that SLO would reward users based on the rating they give, Decimus should be recognized for giving a comprehensive and complete review on Amazon, even though he did not meet the star rating expectations set by the SLO developers.

I think we all trust Kongregate to an point, or we wouldn’t be here. My very presence on this site means I am trusting my laptop’s manufacturers, the makers of my operating system, the people who coded my browser, the folks who coded my Flash player, the advertisers on this site (or the people who code XYZ ad-blocking software), and Kongregate itself. Trust is definitely an integral part of using this site. I trust them not to misuse my information, I trust them not to destroy my computer, and I trust them to provide me with a reasonable amount of entertainment. If I didn’t, I wouldn’t come to this site.

Sure, I will be cautious when downloading anything (as I would be anyway), and I hope Kongregate will closely monitor (and limit) the types of material they offer for download. I also hope they will closely review the installer mechanisms used by those games they choose to offer here. However, I don’t object to the idea itself. I think it’s a solid tie-in with the GameStop and Kongregate missions of providing awesome games for gamers to play, and think this will offer us all more gaming options.

Dear tdon1, thanks for your information. There are a few things i’d like to confirm. Only 80+lvl players can do that? And it only happens in 60-80 zone? Do other servers have this problem besides Frost?

This is a situation where players who are over level 80 (and have moved on to the crypt) can now return to level 60-80 cap battles, even if they are not living in that region. For example, one player is a strong level 100, and is living in Tonos, but is now able to return to the Ventus cap battle, and is easily able to prevent any other player from having a chance at gaining the cap. This was not the case until last week’s update, so several of us have been wondering if this is intentional, especially since the process seems very glitchy. For example, the map does not refresh for these post-80 folks, so they have to exit and reenter the battle each time they wish to attack. Would you please clarify whether this change was intentional?

Thanks for taking time to contact us. Did you give us wrong name’ Ventus’? we are unble to find this player. Please check it.

Ventus is the name of the region, not a particular player. I believe that Tdon1 is saying that all post-crypt players from alliances who hold fortresses in Ventus on Frost are now able to return to fight in cap battles in their former regions. It’s buggy, though: the map doesn’t refresh correctly, and players from other regions (e.g., Tonos) can fight in Ventus battles. Was that change intentional?

There is one.

Still, I was hoping they would come up with a way to encourage new players to join an existing server. This will have the opposite effect.

I am still receiving the same message: “Sorry. You did not get it. Try harder next time.” This has been going on since the second day of the event. Many other players are able to have a shot at diamonds, but I, and others in this thread, continue to be denied our chance. As a player who has spent money on your game in the past, I’m getting frustrated. Would you please fix this issue, and give us same opportunity others have had to earn those missing diamonds?

Same as BaldingAlbino. I did the betting question several days ago, and today, I still just see, “Sorry. You did not get it. Try harder next time.” Others are saying they’ve received two (or, in some cases, three) new questions, but I’m stuck with none.

I’m Wat, on Frost.

Topic: Kongregate / Kongregate vs Newgrounds

For me, both have their purposes. Kong has some really good games, plenty of badges and the chat box that makes this place much more interactive than NG. Newgrounds has flash videos (and some pretty good collections, too), plus a really nice audio portal and a somewhat deranged forum which, because I’m not 12, I usually avoid. NG also has a better quality of reviews, as others have said. However, NG’s forums are often ridiculous, and since I can only look at so many images of a spinning, flashing _______ before I get bored, the Flash Portal usually isn’t much fun either. So, I go to NG if I want to drool quietly and watch some videos, but if I want to interact or play games, most of the time I come here.
