Topic: General Tyrant Discussion / Another idea from K&L

Instead of creating a multitude of NEW cards, how about upgrading to existing cards.

This was posted a few months ago, but couldnt this work as a mechanic? Ease to code and will allow ‘holes’ in card collections to be filled in time …

Originally posted by gjw666:

Just to disagree with most on the thread, if this is implemented in the right manner this could actually be a REALLY dood thing for the game. Credit goes to Asklar for sparking the thought in my mind.

Points to consider:

  • We already have far too many cards in the game

    • I cannot keep track of what I have and have never used many of my cards

    • If we add more cards it breaks the deck hash system

      • If the fansite and more importantly the goodwill of those who run the fansite both go, the game WILL suffer from a financial perspective, as it becomes harder and therefore player churn increases.

      • We have continual complaints that free players cannot keep up with WB players

      • We have no really good mechanism for easing players into spending small amounts of WB (25WB on 1 card is still a lot for many players, especially when you get them 1 at a time in daily chance).
        • We have a proposal to update (often worthless cards) with new skills to create a whole new set of (possibly worthless) cards.

I have a counter proposal on similar lines:

        • Looking at the example cited earlier in the thread of sawblade and arc trooper, why not have the following upgrade path:

          • You have a Sawblade

            • Upgrade 1, costing 100 gold and 2 sawblades —> You receive Cluster Ballista
            • Upgrade 2, costing 1000 gold and 2 Cluster Ballista —> You receive Arc Trooper
            • Upgrade 3, costing 5000 gold and 2 Arc Trooper —> You receive Dominator
            • Upgrade 4, costing 10000 gold and 2 Dominator —> You receive Fortifier
            • Upgrade 5, costing 100000 gold and 2 Fortifier and 5WB —> You receive Israfel

            • This gives a clear upgrade path (this one is a straw man only) and means that free players can get hold of some WB only cards.

The point of the low WB value on upgrade 5 is as follows:

            • Most Free players will have some small denominations of WB anyway. This is a good way to encourage the spend.

              • This mechanism also gives free or low spend players a reason to stay with the game.
              • These low spend players are often those who help new players, a proportion of which will be WB spenders
              • In the long term this should increase the interest of free players, making them less likely to leave, meaning the player base will stop shrinking (or at lest by not as much!)

            • A significant proportion of the player base who have a propensity to spend WB and arent are more likely to start spending WB when the values are this low.

              • Once a player starts spending they are more likely to continue

              • This will not require much additional coding, it is like crafting only using the cards

              • This will not introduce a proliferation of new cards

              • It will allow more experienced players to rationalise their card holdings

              • It will allow new players to get cards ahead of where they would have received them in missions and assist the gain (in the early stages) of better card pools, thereby increasing the chance a new player will stay with the game.
              • Any constructive comments/Criticisms welcome.

I just want to say thank-you for waking up again. There are still a few major concerns I have; however there does appear after a long hiatus to be a genuine attempt to address some of the issues in the game.

You are never going to please everyone with every decision; however you seem to be pleasing more in the last week than you have for the first 5 or so months of the year. I just hope it is enough to get players who have left playing again.

Banana daily active player stats. We were at about 7.8k at the start of conquest (possibly higher, this is just one i had recorded from Oct), around 6.3k during the last event and were at 5.9k active players on the day i wrote the thread. Give or take rounding errors approximately there or thereabouts on the percentages. Today happens to be a smidge over 6k.

Too bad banana can’t actively track alts/bots. Sadly, the actual number of people is far below the numbers you are throwing around.

Firmly agree on that one! I kinda gave up tilting at that windmill though…

I’ll be more active on this forum as I am over on SSH, so I will be on here more often.

I think what you are saying is you havent been active here as you have been on Skyshard Heroes recently, but will be here more often from now on?

If so that is good; however if you could get someone to answer at least some of my above questions I would be grateful…

This!
We’d like to know plans, especially for stuff like raid revamp – and new features. Think many of us are a bit dissapointed with every update being more cards to catch, more upgrades to get (this is more cards again – but in a different way)…

Well it does appear that that we have awoken the Devs from their slumber; however from my perspective, even though the promise of an announcement today has been made, the signs do not look good, with a couple of new quests and a bunch more new content in the Development area.

I am still hopeful that somehow new features can be added to entice players back, but I still havent had the courtesy of an answer to any of my questions in this thread.

We will see, but until that time I am left with a countenance more in sorrow than in anger.

Agreed and we do not know what the exact job description and bonus objectives for that job are; however I am surprised that someone who was announced as a community liaison officer for ALL synapse games has not posted in the forums for 2 months.

Obviously Rutgutter has stated he will spend some more time over here, which is a start; however without addressing some of the concerns we have as a player base, I do not believe time alone will be enough.

Tyrant is in danger of becoming an unweeded garden of things rank and gross in nature (although some would say many of the frustrated trolls already fit that description) leading to a game that is weary, stale, flat, and unprofitable

The below are facts to illustrate where we are as a game and why there is so much frustration right now within the player base:

Drop in active daily player numbers since Oct 2012: circa 25%
Drop in active daily player numbers since last event: circa 5%

Last post on forums by Rudgutter (who I thought had the job title community liaison officer): 29/04/2013

Last post on forums by Synapticon: 07/05/2013

Number of Dev posts in June: 8 (all by Dawayne33, 3 of those today).

Number of new cards during 2013 released (under 6 months): approx 320 or about 2 a day.

Number of new game features in 2013: Minimal

Number of consortium members who are known to primarily be playing another rival game now: 3

Number of threads which have been censored for asking where the Devs are or talking about said other game: Too many to count.

In summary:

  • Players are leaving in droves (even taking into account the summer).
  • The Developers from the players point of view appear to have lost interest with the minimal number of new features (as opposed to content) implemented.
  • Promised upgrades (such as raid revamp) have not been forthcoming and no explanation of why or when these will be delivered has been made.

Personally, the sort of questions I want answers to are:

  • When when is there going to be a significant enhancement rather than just new content (conquest was about 8-9 months ago)?
  • What are the Devs going to do to rectify the fact that they have tried to design conquest for levels under 18, but there is no mechanism for a faction to release tiles once they get to level 18?
  • Will the 2 year old Tournament bugs ever be fixed? (If its just too hard and no, just say this!)
  • When will the promised raid revamp take place?
  • What happened to the supposed community liaison officer role? It kind of fizzled out!
  • Is anyone from the consortium still active, or are they all playing above mentioned rival game?
  • Just why should I spend money on this game any more, if the Developers are just going to take the money and not re-invest it in making the game better?

Answers on a postcard please…

No; however the lack of Dev communication is becoming an issue for what I believe is a growing proportion of the player base.

This game seems to be a project that has generated a reasonable income for the devs and that income does not seem to be being re-invested in improving the game. Why is this?

Slowly more and more of the ‘whales’ will start to ask themselves:

Why should I as someone who does occasionally buy WB, still buy WB if that money isnt being returned into the game that I pay for?

Can anyone think of a reason?

Looking at the bigger picture how often has any faction level reward been really playable and widely used. Possibly 2 or 3 I can think of but why suddenly start to care now?

This may be a case of the people at the top being greedy and thinking of themselves rather than the wider game?

It is sad really. I have had at least 10 people I know state the primary reason they now play Kings and Legends is that the Devs there are responsive and actually care about the player base.

Yes K&L is more pay to win than Tyrant, but the noticeable lack of Dev communication recently is probably worse than I have ever seen it.

Have they lost interest? Who knows; however from the perspective of many players it does feel like it!

Topic: General Tyrant Discussion / Why Do You think Tyrant Is Dead?

Originally posted by kfsw:

i think that top 20 fr is quite strong now. we’re having hard time trying to join.
but conquest is really dead. except for top 20 there are almost no really active factions (40k+ in wars) and top 20 has no interest in conquests.

That is one of the dangers that was created by giving the top 20 or so factions 8 Conquest Tokens a day effectively for free. Any unaligned active player has no reason to join a faction in the next tier down, so more power is being focused on a few.

This is only exacerbated by the fact that a huge chunk of the high CR conquest tiles (which were meant to allow factions who were not level 18 to gain a decent return on conquest tokens) due to the zero sum nature of losing a tile have (rightfully) been retained by factions who have reached level 18 since the conquest board as put in place.

I dont know what the solution is; however if we want to create more competitive factions (outside of this elite) we need to do something. I do agree with ksfw to an extent that there are almost no factions outside the top 25 that i believe can hit 40k in a war; however outside the top 25, there are many factions who can make 30k+ in wars, and if given the chance could develop into top factions.

Right now however I dont see many of those factions being able to break into the top 10 at any point in the near future due to the benefit that the top factions have been granted through every conquest ‘season’ so far.

As activity over summer is low a conquest reset probably isnt the answer, but a mechanism for lev 18+ factions to release tiles without FP penalty (and without a chance to get more FP if they try and get more tiles after they are released) may be a way to re-stimulate conquest for those factions who actually need it…

- Alt is in the same faction as main

- Main has a war on a 3rd faction and alt’s faction attacks the very same faction

These are my ideas though, but it gives you a clue.

I think the subset of players who dont account share, or do share within the spirit of what is deemed to be acceptable agree with you with the addition of Tourney boosting to the list.

My own opinion (which may or may not be worth much) is that Tyrant relies on activity to a certain degree to retain its prime position on the Kong ‘Top Games’ list, which is worth a bunch of cash in additional revenue each month.

If all alts that didnt strictly follow the no interaction policy were banned, we could see as an estimate activity drop by 20%-30% (yes I do think there are potentially that many alts in the game).

If this activity dropped, the profile of Tyrant in Kong would drop, revenue would lessen and the Devs would have even more excuse to focus on their new toy of Skyshard Heroes and the like.

I would therefore suggest that there will not be huge activity from the Devs in reducing bot activity any time soon!

i support measures to stop account sharing, but at the same there should be max kick per day or cool down delay before kicking is triggered to prevent deliberated damage to a faction by unauthorized assess to someone else account

I’m not saying that it’s ethical to use someone else account without their consent. I’m saying that I don’t think it should be a priority to protect people who do something unethical by removing the only possible negative effect of them performing their unethical action. Setting a “max kick per day” feature would pretty much ONLY benefit people in factions that are cheating.

Again, if this terrible idea is implemented, there would literally be no possible negative consequence for account sharing factions. That sends an awful message to the userbase about tolerating account sharers, and it makes cheating even more appealing than it already is. Given that this benefits factions that are account sharing and no one else, I have no idea how this proposal could possibly receive any support from anyone who is in a faction that plays by the rules.

Sorry if I caused the perception that my response was directed at you, it wasn’t, I happened to be posting at about the same time as you.

I think we had a similar discussion before, and I agreed with you that if canvas can only be known from account sharing, then the information should be handed over to the dev, and the dev should follow up with the appropriate penalty. However, I don’t think one player should have the ability to penalize another player. The penalty should only be administered by the dev. Implementing max kick and kick delay will send the message to everyone that it is not ok to access another player’s account no matter what. But like you said, the message should not be one that we tolerate cheaters, so I think the dev should become more active with policing and bounty like you suggested.

There are a couple of reasons why I don’t think the current system of catfacing is right. First is that the players who catface would be breaking the rule themselves by using someone else’s account without authorization. Second is that the punishment might not fit the crime. I am of the opinion that a less drastic reprimand be given out first before permanently disbanding a faction. But what we see is that sometimes an offending faction was not only catfaced, but a player’s account is permanently sabotaged with card selling. Third is that it generates too much hostility in the forum. I understand this is a pvp game, but the amount of celebrating on other people’s misfortune is too much and it is detrimental to attracting new players. Having the dev administer punishment will give it more an air of legitimacy and less petty bickering between different factions.

Trouble is, Devs don’t care about this issue. Never have and never will. So any solution that involves the Dev’s will never happen.

Account sharing will go on. It cant be stopped in the game as there is not going to ever be an enforcement of any Terms of Service or any other virtual ‘law’.

As a community we need to accept that, move on and just laugh at the catfacings when they happen.

Even selling of cards from a Dev perspective is no big problem. If a player is that addicted they will buy those same cards over again, making more profit.

This has to be one of the stupidest posts I have ever seen (and I have seen a few).

Since components were withdrawn and all the upgrades have been brought in, gold is scarce. If anything a little too scarce (but not by much in my opinion).

If you are wasting money buying fortified extractors then I am sorry but you are an idiot! Buy energy upgrades, buy older packs to get some really cool upgrade cards, buy and upgrade Pyro Rigs and Tactical Infiltrators etc etc.

Topic: General Tyrant Discussion / [Recruitment] [Level 16] Samurai Seal Squad - Competitive yet relaxed faction seeking new recruits!

We in the Samurai Seal Squad (SSS) are a bunch of competitive yet relaxed people who enjoy a friendly and fun environment and realise that real life always has to come first!.

The faction was originally set up in late October 2012 and was initially intended to be a semi-retirement and training faction; however we have now broken into the top 50 factions and are still doing ok!

We have a good group of officers who are always willing to help newer players learn and as such value in-game communication (I rarely kick a player who communicates well and is really trying!)

As we are an international faction (with members from UK, Holland, Denmark, Finland, Latvia, Greece, France, USA, Hong Kong and South Korea to name but a few!) we always have some random and often bizarre conversation running, but if there isn’t one then any member is encouraged to start one!

So, if you want to be a part of a fun fairly relaxed but competitive faction we have a place for you. All we need is…

1. Log in regularly (preferably daily, but we have a Leave of Absence area on the forum for long breaks)

2. Keep your net points better than -500 a day or so

3. Keep your defense deck(s) up to date.

4. Follow instructions for Wars and especially Conquest. (If you can’t do this don’t bother applying)

5. Have a fan-site profile (preferred – over 97% of current members do!).

6. Be willing to use additional tools (such as the optimizer or mibbit IRC) when needed.

Benefits:

- Being in a chaotic but somehow well-structured organization

- Good support for deck & skills development

- Wars 24/7 (usually – shout if there isn’t one :) )

- Room #20 (Shared with Order of Death and Synergy)

- Good tourney players

- Some very strange but fun people

How to apply:

- Either through chat (room #20), PM, or apply ingame .

So send a PM to one of our management team:

From left to right – gjw666, medl12d, Piggyi Ben_Sisko, NickyMist, Volticscars, Yaminia or JimMorrison369.

We look forward to having you join us! So join today!
