Topic: Off-topic / Who's Your Favorite Youtuber?

Angry Joe, of the Angry Joe Show, has some great movie and game reviews. I find his perspective on the gaming industry to be refreshing and relatable.

The Fine Bros have been doing some very cool reaction videos with different demographics, I believe they have a newer channel called REACT that they use now though.

There do seem to be some active users right now, but I feel like these sorts of people come and go. It will be interesting to see who’s as active in a few months, maybe a year.

@uber

I do have experience with all the games. Rhetorical accusations don’t contribute much of anything to the conversation.

Half Life, in my opinion, wasn’t as strong of a multiplayer game as others like Counter Strike or Team Fortress 2, but I still enjoy and respect it more than Call of Duty. I maintain that it was better designed than what you get with Call of Duty.

Topic: Off-topic / I have a question about a job choice.

What’s important to you?

If you want money, then 1. is your best bet. The pay, when paired with the lack of rent, would give you funds to either invest, or create an emergency fund.

If you want to relax, then 4. is your best bet. Still get some pay, and you can an easy job with a small time commitment.\

Chances are though, both of these are the wrong way to think of it. Each of these jobs are wildly different than the others, in both the work environments and day to day tasks. You should really think about what each one entails day to day, and which one you would enjoy the most. If you’re doing the job for a while, it may be less about the hours, and more about how much you enjoy your time. I know I’d rather spend 8 hours at a job I like then 4 hours at a job I hate. I’d encourage you to think about what you believe would bring you the most satisfaction and well being in the long run.

@ninja

Sure, some classic games like Half Life and Counter Strike are also fast paced, but you can’t really mean to say that Call of Duty is on the same level?

They are set apart from Call of Duty by the variety, teamwork, map design, and general gameplay. Call of Duty rewards a free for all play style, and really is about who sees who first. The games listed are significantly slower (in an FPS, a single second makes a big difference), so it’s already hardly comparable. Furthermore, they do allow for more thoughtful gameplay through their design. Just to name a few points, Counter Strike has players start out even, allowing for skilled players to rise to the top while allowing new players to have a fair chance. Half Life, as well as Counter Strike, had slower gameplay and a more intentional map design.

To make a comparison, Call of Duty is like a Michael Bay movie. It may make you feel accomplished, but all you did was watch a few explosions, and shoot at anything that moves while trying to be lucky enough to survive. Mindless action. The quality games listed are more like a thriller/action movie, where you need to be careful about your next move, and take your time to set up for an action packed sequence.

Call of Duty is rewarding to its players because it makes them feel accomplished. You play, get luckier than your opponents and get some kills, and feel like you earned them. I mean, in other games, you probably would have earned them. But Call of Duty has become nothing more than an FPS slot machine, just waiting to see someone else first.

How do some players do better than others, you may ask? Surely they’re skilled, showing that the game allows for skill!? I disagree. You can memorize maps, get the newest and best load out, and get a fast trigger finger, but that isn’t skill. Anyone who plays enough can do this. True skill is thinking critically, predicting opponents, and knowing the nuances of your game. It’s like a good chess match. Call of Duty simply doesn’t allow for this, with gameplay that is simultaneously shallow and fast paced.

I’ve played my fair share of Call of Duty, even earned my fair share of prestiges, but it’s just a simple game compared to masterpieces like Counter Strike, Team Fortress 2, Halo, etc.

Congrats on the milestone though, hope you continue to enjoy your time here.

I don’t enjoy the Call of Duty games. There’s really no strategy, its just a shooting gallery. A simple game of “who sees who” first, with the only excuse for “skill” being the use of overpowered load outs and abusing the maps.

Really, look for slower FPS games if you want something that can potentially benefit from thoughtful, skillful gameplay.

Topic: Off-topic / Is today's youth spoiled?

While today’s youth has more temptations against emotional maturity to deal with, such as the increasing presence of technology and cultural senses of entitlement, I think it’s important that we hold them to the same standard as others in the past.

If they have greater tools and resources, a greater education, it doesn’t mean that they get to do the same things easier. It means that they should put in the same work, and be held to a continuously higher standard.

Yes, I think today’s youth is spoiled. But that’s not necessarily a bad thing. If they work hard and use their additional resources to get more done than ever before, it’s really an opportunity. But if they let it get the better of them, than it’s an issue. We can’t just assume it’s bad though, as it would be presumptuous of us to force our concerns over a possibility onto strangers whose situation could go both ways.

This is an interesting topic! If you are interested in hearing another group’s opinions, I would suggest posting the same topic into Serious Discussion.

Topic: Kongregate / IDEA: have events for points on old MMO games

Honestly, I think it would be a good idea to have temporary point challenges for classic MMO’s.

Just don’t make them temporary badges or anything collectible, instead being simple point bonuses to give an incentive for new users and old to return to a game for a bit.

Very cool thought, would love to see this applied!

Honestly, it seems like people do this in an attempt to feel better about themselves and build themselves up. A lot of people may very well be guilty of that, and they’d see it if they were to just look inside and be truthful with themselves.

Most people hate Romney because he dismissed 47% of Americans.

How can you support someone who hates 47% of America?

Also, Romney has said multiple times that he HATES CROWS :< :< :<

As I said in the beginning of my post, politics aside. I’m not trying to defend either side or either side’s policies, I’m making the point that making a big decision like voting shouldn’t be decided on arbitrary facts.

Topic: Serious Discussion / Copyright law: is it fine as it is, should it be not as harsh, or must it be enforced more throughly?

It’s a difficult decision.
On one hand, it’s good because it protects the rights of an individual or group who put work into something. On the other hand, it’s bad because it prohibits sharing of knowledge and research, plus it’s constantly abused for malicious intent.

Topic: Kongregate / Is Kongregate in cahoots with multiplayer games?

While I’m sure that the kreds people spend on multiplayer games really helps out Kongregate, the fact that so many people get hooked on multiplayer games is probably the reason they are so prevalent.
