Topic: Tyrant: General Tyrant Discussion / History of Tyrant

Sometimes, you can’t see the forest for the trees.
It happens to all of us: from time to time.
They’re all biased historical accounts. Whoever the victors are or whoever is around long enough to document the events will be given the most credence.
Regardless, it’s fun to have some idea of what happened before.
Ultimately, the Devs know the most about Tyrant’s history anyway minus the drama that is held behind closed doors, or what bleeds onto the forum that they couldn’t care less about. To them, I would think, it would be frivolous to care about, even if we think it to be important.

Now who will write the next chapter? :D

Topic: Tyrant: General Tyrant Discussion / Hi. My name is hunterhogan, and I am addicted to Tyrant.

It’s hard to quit.
You just have to stop caring so much about the game, and deal with real world responsibilities, first—if you have any.
Then you don’t find this replacing your time out of boredom. Myself: I just play for reward cards.
No more making Guides and Faqs—which was really time consuming—for the community. Most of the old community has left, anyway.
If you like the casual part of the game, you can play it. If you like the faction wars, well, that’s where your addiction ramps up.
Anyways, you’ll find yourself quitting this game then coming back to it, out of curiosity, but I would say being a casual player will help to reduce that addiction.
Unless you employ bots or macros and skip the whole skinner box dilemma. Not saying you should, but that’s how a lot people move faster in tyrant.

Don’t stress rolby.
Just go through your fast, and don’t get too angry.
Don’t worry what people say. They might say it as a joke, or to be an asshole.
Just brush it off, and do what you want to do for your fast.

If your parents are teasing you, maybe they just want you to cheer up?
Maybe they just don’t know how to express themselves politely for you to cheer up?

Just take it easy. Best thing I can say.

Karma. It wasn’t directed at you, specifically.
You kind of know who.
You’re writing style does leave something to be desired, though. Too much passion. :P

BTW. I don’t feign politeness. I am polite in real life.
Just that some of you guys like to get me riled up, so I bite back at times.

Topic: Serious Discussion / The Bible as a historical document

It’s not a great source, but it’s a source.
Can it be considered on the level of scholarly? Probably not.
How reliable is it? Without sufficient fact checking or something—archeology—that can empirically support the document we can’t just agree that anything is a fact, but it can give us a glimpse into how some of the scholars of their time would think. After all, religion was the place of scholarly work, before the advent of the printing press, and before people had better access to education. Once we no longer had to believe in divine beings thanks to atheism, we were able to be far more skeptical of things we trusted and didn’t. We’re always trying to figure out: is this legitimate or not? Too much information by too many people. Which is the most empirically true? What is worth reading and what isn’t. We only have so much time, after all. Without observation, we can’t really know.
Before a religion was labeled pagan or mythology, it was legitimate, until a group labelled it as illegitimate.
Maybe all the religious texts will be placed in the place of illegitimate in the years to come, but something will always try to fill that void, unless we as a society decide we don’t really need these things to advance.

No idea. So far. We men have had it good :)

Maybe he is referring to lack of opportunity for men to succeed over the female counterparts?
Or men not willing to work hard enough to earn their keep?
Or men not having success, so they have to blame some one?

Topic: Serious Discussion / Excessive cursing

It’s called frustration.
A mother with many kids is probably far too overwhelmed to check her behavior. At that moment in time, she most likely can’t self-control her emotional self. Although not developing the habit, helps, and a more conservative approach to using insults helps in the self-control area, but if certain groups don’t mind and find swearing liberating then have it. It’s all about the context in which we place our behavior. When in polite company or around children it’s better to not misbehave, but when you’re being reckless and having a fun time: almost anything goes—shy of breaking any laws.

We like to judge these overworked, overwhelmed individuals, but can we be so disciplinary when they are just being human. We can’t fix all our mistakes; especially, in the state of being overwhelmed. It’s hard in western society to not be overwhelmed, so we just have to cope the best way we can. For the mother swearing like a sailor she is looking for cathartic escape while breaking a rule in self-control to feel that small release of freedom. Although, highly impolite, if that is the way she is coping, then so be it—better she do that, then something really criminal.

On the liberal side we can empathize with this mother, so you will get arguments for her behavior. On the conservative side: she will judged for not having enough self-control and not acting appropriately or ideally. Liberals get we are human and make mistakes, and conservatives are always fighting against their weaknesses.
Now I did outline them in absolute terms, but that is not entirely true because most of us like to moderate ourselves between liberal, and conservative ideals which hold all aspects of the political spectrum and their beliefs within them.

So, at the end of the day: we are all moderates, no matter if we like it or not. Just at the spur of the moment, come election time do we choose to decide more to one side or the other, or whatever niche party we prefer.
Nothing is pure this or that, they are all mixtures.

Topic: Serious Discussion / Gun Issues

You guys need to realize something.
IF you want to keep the SD community growing don’t be so damn punitive to new members if they get something wrong. That’s why many of them resort to trolling. I get your frustration.
Some of them think they may learn something here, but we all scare them away. Just because we think we are right does not make it so. The facts do speak for themselves at some level, but because someone as young as 15 may be getting some things wrong compared to us older folks does not give us the right to denigrate or belittle them because that is the easy win. If you like the insult to win style, then have it. I couldn’t care less, but when people troll you back, don’t be so surprised.
The gun issue thread really is a joke. We all know it. Why do we keep bumping it? To keep a certain posters flame alive?

If a mod removes this post because they like us to fight. Then fine. If that’s the only way SD can survive—then so be it. Unless, someone has been flagging my posts because they disagree: that’s just pathetic.

BTW, some OTers might like to come to OT and discuss things without getting berated with insults.
We know the trolls, and what they do for entertainment, so just ignore them when they are just trying to get a rise out of you. Simple? No?

Yeah, no doubt taking a page from K&L. They’re probably intending on making a lot of basic changes to the game to address some of concerns they’ve learned over the past 2 years, hence the name change.

Yes, within disability they code for strengths as well.
The problem is what might create a weakness in one set will create a strength in another.
Separating the nature through human provocation has been tough to do, but I haven’t seen a consistent method, as of yet.

Really, society dictates most peoples’ choices for the type of children they want. Parents want their kids to be successful, so they will give them the most advantages possible. Personally, I would give them all the athletic, and intellectual abilities possible to perform at their peak performance while also allowing them to have greater control over their behavior. It’s more of a dream because the science isn’t there yet, and scientists are still struggling with creating idealized humans, as well as being accepting of the variety of humans at the same time, so as to appease everyone.

In the case, of the deaf culture or even to a more controversial stance against little people. “Curing” them hits to a very emotional heart string. They want to preserve their culture. They find it unique and worthy of protection. They find happiness in being who they are. After much fought discrimination, those that find success, become advocates of their lifestyles, and those like them. Those that don’t find success while being their natural self: look for an escape. Either through medical or other means.

Topic: Serious Discussion / Real-Life Application of Genomics

The simple answer. If it will stop disability from manifesting itself in the individual, then yes.
Who wouldn’t want healthy human beings over disabled individuals who can’t keep up with the world we have created.
I’m not sure we have all the scientific facts, yet, on what traits are the best for human progress. We have a lot of scientific information, but ascribing more value to one set of scientific lines of inquiry without sufficient time for people to correctly disprove them after rigorous experimentation and insight might be jumping the gun.

Genetics is still very young. But we need to keep working out the kinks first before we jump the gun. Some of what we do in the scientific community may prove results in the short term, but don’t stay stable for long term results. I actually am a little cautious in that aspect, but give something maybe 10 years, and having rigorous scrutiny applied.
Then we can move to the next stage of development and implementation.

Maybe I don’t agree with you that there are absolute traits for each gene, and that they have small variations that manifest themselves differently than what we are normally aware of. Doesn’t mean we shouldn’t try. Even if human trials don’t come out the way we want them to. We accept those that mutate into disability after all. Why not at least try for humans.

Again, I want to tell you that I am in the minority. Most people have a high moral penchant. Not necessarily wrong, but you have to convince people that what you are doing is not morally wrong. For business you have to produce results. Anything less is unacceptable. So if you are trying to get a baseline on what people want: ask the conservatives.

They’ve been discussing this for a really long time. I have always been for genetically modified offspring. Although, I always considered myself a forward thinker. I’ll wait for the conservatives or ethical moralists to weigh in where safety against mistakes outweigh the risk. The offspring won’t be perfect: no matter how carefully we try to give them our preferred traits. Last time I checked. Successful trials of separating the correct dominant and recessive combinations of traits was still quite tricky. Although, that was many years back, so I wonder what the young scientists of today have done so far.

I’m all for human improvement. Mistakes will be made, but we have to learn from those mistakes. Being afraid of messing up, shouldn’t stop or demotivate us from progress that may not be to everyone’s liking. If we stopped at more advanced tool use as early humans, we probably would never have left our hunter-gatherer ways, and eventually to the civilization we have now. Which I think is better, even with all the troubles we create.

Hoping that we give enough tools for the genetically modified kids, even those currently alive today, so that they can be successful. You can only dream, right?

Maybe the ladies room should have those large urinals(trough urinals) for group pissing then?
I guess in this fast-paced world it might be a smart alternative to the que to pee of liquid waste disposal that we have now.

I still think the male/ female washrooms should be kept separate for safety reasons. Although, I personally don’t mind if a woman uses the male washroom—I’m in the minority though. It’s other people that will. What is most convenient for the person: I find acceptable, as long as it doesn’t cause problems.
