Topic: Game Programming / How do you update your game version?

I want to upload a new version of our game here but I cannot find where to do that.

I read the HELP/FAQ at the bottom but the information there seems to be incorrect. I have no “Manage Games” link on my profile, and when I “EDIT” my existing game there is no option to upload any new files.

What do I need to do?

Thanks,

Topic: Kongregate / New Developer to Kongregate: Educate Me! :)

Ugh. That was an accident. How do I delete or edit my post?

Also, I was under the impression I can’t change the title at this point, but I will keep that in mind for the future.

Thanks.

Ok, sounds good. So being clear up front is key? Can you take a look at the game and how I wrote the description and let me know what you think?

Tower of Elements

Very early in the description I write this:

==
Full 90 level version available on our web site. http://toe.frogdice.com
50% off discount code for Kongregate players:

TOEKONG
==

I feel like that makes it clear that the version here is a shorter/trial version. Am I wrong?

Thanks for the feedback.

Thank you eProdigy. I poked around there a bit before uploading anything and it was very useful.

I actually intend to point one of our programmers there to look into the APIs so we can hopefully get some high scores added and maybe eventually have some achievements in Tower of Elements here as well.

What I was really trying to get a handle on is what players like and what they expect out of a game here.

Is it lame to have a smaller version here and a bigger version elsewhere that has to be bought? Or is that totally ok and understandable.

I don’t want to do something lame and tick people off. I know how easy it can be to stumble into a new internet community and accidentally make terrible mistakes.

Have they shown off the titanic amount of bugs that are surely in this game like all their other games?

Topic: Serious Discussion / Is having sex at the age of 12 right

Without question, the answer is: NO

In modern society, NO.

In the distant past, in some third world country, in a situation where our entire species was in danger… those are all situations that do not exist for anyone reading this forum. So considering those extreme situations is not relevant.

The answer is: NO.

Topic: Serious Discussion / Do you know any video game for blind people ?

MUDs (text based online games) are excellent games for blind people.

With the use of a screen reader, MUDs can be played extremely well and at a high, competitive level.

My company’s oldest game is a 17 year old, roleplay required, text MUD (Threshold RPG). Over the years we have had MANY blind players and most people never had any idea.

One of the best web sites that lists tons of MUDs is Top Mud Sites . You can find a ton of games there to try out.

Good luck!

Topic: Game Design / Details in a RPG game

This is not meant to sound harsh.

If you want to make an RPG, you shouldn’t need to ask people what features it should have.

You should already have a design in mind that you are passionate about.

That is the only way to make a good RPG.

RPGs are the hardest games to make as they rely the most on solid design and massive amounts of content.

If you don’t have inspiration and passion at the beginning, you are doomed.

Topic: Game Design / How should a "free" to play MMO be funded?

Pay for boosts, cosmetics, and fluff.

Pay for power is bad, but boosts are fine. Nothing wrong with someone paying to earn exp faster. That’s how you balance people with more money that time vs. people with more time than money.

Some great examples to look to are League of Legends and Lord of the Rings Online.

Is anyone else as worried as I am that this will be a buggy disaster? Morrowind, Oblivion, and Skyrim were super buggy, but at least they were single player and you could fix things with the console.

But an MMO? What is their solution to a company history that is legendary for buggy games?

Topic: Kongregate / New Developer to Kongregate: Educate Me! :)

Hello everyone,

I am the founder of the indie studio Frogdice. We’ve been around since 1996 but our focus was online games. Our oldest game is a 17 year old MUD called Threshold RPG

We recently finished our first stand alone game and it was also our first game in Unity3d.

I uploaded a version of it last night here on Kongregate. It is called Tower of Elements and it is a match-3, tower defense, RPG hybrid.

I have never hosted a game on Kongregate before so this is a totally new experience. I am also new to the community so I have no idea what sort of things people expect from games here.

The version I uploaded is the first 10 levels and first boss battle in the game. The full game has 90 levels and can be bought from our site (if anyone wants to do that, here’s a 50% discount code: TOEKONG ). Or if you prefer, you can grab it from a few other portals like Big Fish Games. The one on our site though is 100% DRM free. Download it and install it on as many computers as you want. Share it with family. That’s fine with us.

How does that deal sound to you all? Am I providing enough quality gameplay in the version I uploaded here? Is it lame of me to have a shorter version of the game here but a larger version that you have to buy?

I really don’t know. I’ve read up on Kongregate a lot over the years (as you can tell I made this account in 2009) but I’m still a n00b when it comes to Kongregate.

I’d love to hear your feedback.

Thanks,

-Michael Hartman

Topic: General Gaming / Fraud with Iron Realms?

I am the owner of Frogdice (http://www.frogdice.com), a company that makes online games (including text muds like Threshold RPGhttp://www.thresholdrpg.com). I have played one or two IRE games over the years, but mainly just to check them out and never for more than an hour or so. If that makes me an “IRE” player – so be it – but I don’t think it does. If anything, my company is a competitor.

This whole “scandal” is at best ridiculous, and at worst extremely poisonous to the community here.

Sites like Kongregate thrive by adding new members who send traffic, spread word of mouth advertising, etc. If IRE sends hundreds or thousands of people to this site to rate their games, that is hundreds or thousands of people who at least have a CHANCE to see the other games here.

If you have a flash game here, that’s what you want. You want your game to have a CHANCE at attracting new players.

I do not know if the majority of complaints here are coming from players or from game developers, but I have to guess players. Most game developers would be happy to know there are more people coming to a site where their game is hosted, as each person is at least a potential new player for their game.

Topic: Off-topic / Frogdice and Threshold RPG partner with Bluegrass Domestic Violence Program

Frogdice (the creator of Threshold RPG) has joined in an ongoing partnership with the Bluegrass Domestic Violence Program to raise awareness about domestic violence. During the month of May 2009, a portion of all purchases will be donated to the BDVP.

We are also planning to collect toys, clothing, and other supplies at our annual convention (ThreshCon) this summer. These items will be donated to the BDVP. Literature on domestic violence will be made available at the convention as well.

This issue resonates with us at Frogdice because of our almost 50% female customer base and the fact that many of our customers have used our community to escape domestic abuse situations.

We are very excited about this partnership and look forward to working with this charity more in the future.
