Topic: Serious Discussion / Abortion: Cure for world hunger?

To quote the FAO:

“Widespread and persistent hunger is a fundamental contradiction in today’s world. The food
is there: world agriculture produces 17 percent more calories per person today than it did 30 years
ago, despite a 70 percent population increase.”

Reducing Poverty and Hunger: the Critical Role of Financing for Food, Agriculture and Rural Development [PDF]

Better distribution would require people to give up some of their excess. Which, unless we can manage some form of communal system, wont happen. As long as we have our ‘independence’ we will help ourselves, at the cost of others.

This was the point I made. The world can’t sustain us unless we go out of our way to make some changes. Which does involve actually sacrificing food from our own plates. If we actually had enough food and it was well distributed you would never see those commercials advertising that for only 30 cents a day you can feed this skinnny malnourished child.

I’m still searching for the actual quote but feel free to take a look at this link. It may be one sided so I need to find the other side of this argument to make it fair but while I was searching this kept popping up. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nkMolLriAkQ

Oh thank god when I saw the title all I could think about was fetus on spits slow roasting and someone saying they taste like chicken. Then I came in and read the actual topic. Abortion is not a cure for hunger as the planet is already overpopulated to the point where it can’t really sustain us all without some drastic changes in the way we treat the world and grow food. All abortion would do would be say to slow the rate at which we all end up starving. That is assuming we can overlook the obvious moral issues associated with presenting it as the end to hunger.

I would have to argue with that and say the sexuality of the person is not in fact a choice the environmental factors would however effect if you are a “straight acting” guy or a “flaming queen” or any other number of possible personality traits that you could display as they would in any situation not just that. Sexuality is not a choice plain and simple. Believe me if I had a choice I would never have chosen to become part of the most ridiculed and hated minority out there. I just am. Whether I like it or not.

I’m not stereotyping. I am stating simple facts. I spoke with someone who is quite verse in the Koran as I am not because of this very topic just a few days ago and I was actually suprised to find out what I did. Have you read the koran SaintAjora have you actually studied the whole thing and are you versed enough in the topic to actually say for sure that there is nowhere in the whole book that says anything about once you defeat a land build a mosque as a sign that you have done so. It may take a whole section but that is the meaning behind it. I never said it was being built by terrorist you just did. What I said was that it is in our constitutional rights to allow freedom of religion however based on the pretense that they are taught to build a Mosque when a land has been defeated (and in their minds that may be the case that doesn’t make it accurate in everyones eyes) then it would be on their part a show that they are victorious. What I was saying was simply that we can stand by our laws and allow the religious expression or we can chose to go against them simply because of the symbolism the mosque will hold for the people. There are a lot of things that they are taught by the quran. For instance they are told that it is okay to secretly hate you and be nice to your face. Now bear in mind what I am writing is a very blunt abbreviated way of it without any flare and what not as would be in any religious book.

In the Koran it actually says (now this isn’t an exact quote but) once you defeat a land you build a mosque there as a sign you have defeated them. I don’t believe that this mosque should be built. It is in the rights and freedoms of this country to build it though so the conundrum is do we let them think they have won our land as we stand by our own laws or do we go against our own beliefs to stop theirs.

First and formost I want to state that being gay is by no means a choice. It is something that is born in you. No person (shy of a severe mental disorder) would willingly choose to become a member of one of the most scrutinized minorities out there. I was raised in a normal household with my little brother and sister and I have a mother who works in the health industry and a father who was in the army. I was in the boyscouts and enjoy things like camping, rock climbing, broadway showtunes and fashion. I am a gay man and it was not a choice. It was what was natural. The difference between nurture vs nature is how you behave. The only part of being gay is the behavior you exhibit. If you are a raging queen that is your choice. If you are a butch mountain man that is your choice. If you are a rockstar that is your choice. If you are a wallflower that is your choice. All the things that are personality traits are the things that are determined by how you were raised and what you picked up from your surrounding environment. The one thing that was not picked up was sexuality. I was raised in what is considered a normal household and did everything from boyscouts to sports and I am still gay. It was by no means a choice at any time. It was simply what I was born as. I might respond to your question with one of my own. When did you choose to be straight?

Topic: Serious Discussion / Sex at an early age?

Sex before you have the maturity to know what the reality behind it is wrong. Children who aren’t even teenagers let alone adults yet should not have sex with anyone at that age. While the curiousity is natural and so is masterbation physically taking part in any sexual act with a partner at such a young age is wrong. Aside from the mental capacity to actually understand that is is something more than just pleasure. There are the what if’s to getting someone pregnant. There is no way anyone at that age in their right mind would want to have a child and ruin their chances at a normal life for the rest of your life. You haven’t even completed what our society believes to be the basic education that you should have before you go out into the “real world” what on earth would drive someone to think that they were ready for the responsability of having sex. Hell most children haven’t even gotten the birds and the bees speach at that point.

Topic: Serious Discussion / Why do people like Obama???

What I would like to add to this post is that I really think people need to stop expecting things to be fixed last week. The country has been on a steady decline for years economically speaking. The national debt has only increased for a very long time. President Obama was thrust into this pile and told “fix it”. He has his projects he wants to get in motion ie healthcare for all and he has to solve the economical issues as well or at least get them started. These things take time and they take a lot of time. So we need to have a little faith and while we voice our opinions try to be supportive and understand that it is some hard work and it is going to be a while before we see the resolution we want.

Topic: Serious Discussion / Gay isn't wrong!

Karma I was only speaking in reference to how the bs in general tends to stop when you aren’t in highschool anymore. The comment pretty much was a generalization and wasn’t focusing on the topic. After reading all the post after mine I see that I am going to have to get a little more involved in the thread.
Gay is wrong
I see a lot of people saying no it’s not and leaving it at that. I just want to add the fact that homosexual relationships exist outside of the human race in creatures that lack the ability to reason (which is the only thing that seperates us from the rest of the animal kingdom) and therfore it must be written into the subconcious nature of living things and prooves in my opinion that it cannot be wrong because it would not occur in these other species if it was “wrong”.
Also as for disease. I personally know my fair share of people and I most of them are Gay. I can honestly say in just the people I know I rarely find that it is the gay ones with diseases. Not saying they don’t get them I just want to make it a point that the sicknesses that are considered to be running rampant in some peoples opinions in the gay community are just as prevalent in the heterosexual community.

And if you look at it from another point of view the heterosexual males should revere gay men because we in fact are removed from your list of competitors for that girl you want to breed with.
In short get over yourself heterosexuals it’s not all about you. You aren’t the only ones living here and you need to accept that there are going to be people different than you. All we want to do is live out our lives happily but no some members of the heterosexual community want to tell us we are wrong. You know what. How would you like it if every day of your life you had to wake up to fight for equality. The only comparison I can give to the majority of the demographic who comes on this site is this. How would you feel if every day of your life your siblings and parents and teachers all said you were wrong. They didn’t even wait for your answer just automatically assumed you were going to be wrong. They fail you and fight with you and ground you just because they assume you were wrong. Are you wrong? Do you want a fair shot at life? Do you think they should let you live and prove that you aren’t wrong. Wouldn’t you like others to support your right to prove yourself. Or are you content to sit there and let them pound you into nothing and accept it and be rejected by everyone.
Just once try to realize there is more out there than just what you read about in books and what you see online. You might see the people in the situation as people.

Topic: Serious Discussion / Porn, negative or positive?

Oh and as for the topic of it encouraging molestation and rape. That is total bullocks. The reason people sexually attack others is not because they watch porn it’s because something is wrong in their heads and they are sexually repressed and unable to segregate right from wrong which could be caused by any number of things that happened in their lives. Odds are watching porn is not the thing that pushed them over the edge.

Topic: Serious Discussion / Porn, negative or positive?

Porn=Good

From a religious pov (well at least christianity) every sperm is sacred so no you can’t rub out a few knuckle children to porn and apparently it is even taboo to watch porn with your partner to save time on that whole forplay thing.
From a scientific pov I think porn is a good thing. 1. Sex reduces stress. So watching porn and masterbating is going to relieve stress. 2. Sure you could use your imagination but porn is faster and puts less strain on your brain. 3. If you happen to be in a relationship where you aren’t getting any (for whatever reason) porn can be a positive sexual outlet as opposed to going out and cheating on your significant other. 4. A healthy regular ejaculatory cycle can promote proper prostate health as well as testosterone production in the male body. Pornography and masterbation work well together to achieve this.
So pornography can be a tool that aids you in masterbation. It is not always necessary but sometimes it can be nice.

Topic: Serious Discussion / Protein; Before or after workout?

My husband is a power lifter. He goes to the gym religiously. He always takes his supplements before he goes to the gym. He takes a daily vitamin a couple times a day. Right now he is upping his protein intake to build some lean mass. The supplement I can think of off hand that he drinks just before the gym is called Black Powder or something like that. But there are a bunch of others he has too. Don’t forget though he is a power lifter so he thinks it’s normal to drink all this stuff and then go dead lift 700 plus pounds.

Originally posted by PCal:

Before I make myself look like a fool the idea of separation of church and state comes from the first amendment right?

Also you mini ax is kinda redundant since those things are against the rules anyways.

Actually the seperation of church and state comes from the letter “A Wall Of Seperation” written by Thomas Jefferson. The phrase became so popular that everyone began using it and eventually came to believe that was what was written in the constitution even though it is not.
The constitution only specifies that the government cannot establish a religion for the country. So basically the government can’t encourage one particular religion to thrive over the others.

Now look, all of you ignorant liberal dummies, The only reason is that when your out there fighting some vietkong gooks popping out of the earth at random times, the last thing you want to worry about is going to take a shower during down time, and have to worry about being Raped by a homosexual! BTW, IF you are gay in the military, you wont want to get beat up because you are gay, thats another reason =p

That has to be the most absolutely ignorant thing I have ever read.

First off women are in the military. Do they finish up training or working out in the sandbox and then worry about all the straight men raping them when they shower? No. Sure it happens once in a while but not to a degree where people need to live in fear.
Second they run a full background check and psychological checks on each person who enters the military. If you aren’t deemed fit for combat (which includes the living situation) then they will not send you.
Also I want to point out that just because you are male does not instantly make you something that a gay man wants. I assume you are a straight man based on your comments.. Do you want every single girl that walks by be they the fat, the skinny, the old, the young, the smart, and dumb? No you have your own taste and the restraint to control yourself from trying to bang everything that moves.

Also a man can masterbate and while it is no substitute for the real thing it can get you through the rougher times.
The only reason that gay people are not allowed in the military is because of an archaic mindset that was put in place when members of the gay community began openly coming out about it and the “mans army” was afraid of the very thing you spoke of and with the fear of HIV and AIDS which was at the time called GRID (gay related imunodeficiency disease) being passed into the military they panicked and closed it off to gay people. Now we know that Aids and HIV are both able to be passed from any infected person to any person regardless of sex or sexual identity.
The science has been updated and so has the country slowly but surely. It’s time to let our soldiers be who they are and fight for the American way of life regardless of who they love in their off time.

How can you not accept them? They are Americans just like you. How many of the other Americans have you met that were protected by the rights that all of us should have. Not to mention how many people have hidden who they were so they could protect this country without fear of being reprimanded. We are all Americans and we all should be equal not the same EQUAL. Until people learn to look past their own noses to see what is out there we will always have this overwhelming hate in the world. It takes all sorts of people to make the world go round so why can’t this just be taken as another type of person to make things happen.

Make it three.
I am a firm believer in the fact that the reason we are on this planet is for love.
If you really think about it you will see what I mean.
People will do anything for love.
We hunt for it our whole lives.
We know it can hurt us but we want it anyway.
People die for their love of their country and god (whatever the religion).
We find it and we are so terrified to lose it that we can put ourselves through hell just for a lasting glimpse at having it.
The Beatles weren’t wrong when they said it was all we needed.
It really is. Think about it. You can be homeless and jobless and poor as all hell but if you have someone to love who loves you in return you know your going to be okay and that you can be happy.
So I say yes to love and all the stupid things it makes us do.
Yes to sharing that love with friends and family and total strangers.
Yes to making new families that maybe don’t fit inside the social mold of what is “normal” as long as they have the love.
Love is all you need.

Love Ben

The gay population may have the right to marry but we are not asking for the same rights as heterosexual couples. We are asking for EQUAL rights to that of a heterosexual couple which is to marry the person we love not just a person who is of the opposite sex.
