Topic: Serious Discussion / Sex (i.e. Man/Woman) Equality?

I feel that the social pressures do account for all of our differences.

Although I think that the teacher rejecting the female student is a tad ridiculous, society has always been stereotyping males and females into their own specialties. If you look at insects, the female is almost always larger and more dominating than the male. For example, the queen bee, praying mantis, black widow spider.

My P.E. class has a “midterm”. In the push-up section, the males have to do 18 pushups, whereas the females need to do only seven. Not that I care (nor the so called feminists in my school), but maybe it’s these similar limitations forced upon females ages ago that change our perceptions today.

Just my 2cents.

Sylvester Stallone is from the Rambo and Rocky movies, not Scarface. You are talking about Al Pacino.

Topic: Off-topic / Most Underrated Movie of All Time

It’s underrated because of the misleading title. Tom Hanks Falls for Meg Ryan: Episode 1 is more appropriate.

The first guy? The last one is carrying a cauldron of cannon balls! Plus, he’s a god fearing man. Artillery and piety.

Topic: Serious Discussion / Kongregate debate team! (Historical Document)

Age is a pretty bullshit way to rate most anything. There will always be nine year olds wiser beyond his years and there will always be immature sixteen year-olds that get aroused by a provocative scene in a cartoon.

Topic: Serious Discussion / Different Cultures

(tl;dr – scroll to the bottom)

I’m grocery shopping with my grandma at the local Hong Kong Supermarket since she can’t drive. The shoppers there were generally Asian a couple years ago, but now more and more cultures are shopping here. Not like that’s a bad thing or anything; I think it’s great that more and more people are expanding their cultural backgrounds just from shopping at a different location. Plus, the goods here are considerably cheaper than the A&P and there’s Shin Ramen Noodles here, which everyone loves. Back on tangent, my grandmother and I saw a black, or African-American if you’re a nutcase about political correctness, woman having communication problems with the butcher. Apparently, she wanted a number of pounds of a certain meat, but the meat guy had no clue what she was saying. She started to slow her enunciation as if talking to a child (always a dick thing to do), but the butcher still didn’t have a clue. By now the woman started screaming racist comments at him and the man responded with racist comments at her. I was about to go help translate for her, but she bellowed, “I’m never coming back here (with some derogatory phrases here and there),” and stormed out. On the way home, my grandmother, a bigot like most older aged persons, started complaining about the black woman and how ‘they’ shouldn’t be allowed there. Although I knew that initiating an argument with her might end in nasty results with my mother, I retorted that the personnel hired there should know basic English, being that this is an English speaking country. I played Devil’s Advocate for the rest of the return trip. I got home with a trunkful of food and an angry grandma.

My point is, should an already defined community, such as the Honk Kong Supermarket, modify themselves because of their culturally different surroundings, or should they adapt to an outside populace curious of their culture. Discuss.

(I’m relatively new to this community, so I’m not sure if this thread is appropriate. Whatever.)
