$10 is too much.

With the counterpoint game, I’m curious if it/they made enough money to be ‘worth it’ to the developer. I’ve seen some financial breakdowns on steam games, and it’s not usually financially viable.

Cthulhu Saved The World / Breath of Death VII are two of the more popular throwback RPGs on Steam, yes. They’ve been a daily deal quite a few times, and have been in many Steam indie bundles.

Also, it’s odd that you would say $10 is too much considering the fact that Defender’s Quest (a game on Kongregate) earned a couple hundred thousand in sales off of Steam at a price point of $15.

Just because you wouldn’t buy something doesn’t mean other people won’t. If Defender’s Quest was such a decent seller on Steam, there’s no reason Epic Battle Fantasy 4 wouldn’t be.

Regarding Epic Battle Fantasy 4 on Steam greenlight, I’ve already told Matt Roszak that he was free to promote the Steam version of the game within Epic Battle Fantasy 4 on Kongregate, which is what he’s currently doing. This is probably the most effective promotion that can be done.

That’s pretty awesome of you guys. :) Though, I didn’t know EBF4 was on Steam until I was flicking through Greenlight and happened to see it. Currently it’s something like 50% of the way to the top 100, which isn’t so great for it.

For Greenlight the best promotion that can be done is usually the one that gets the most amount of eyeballs, because that’s all Steam cares about – sheer numbers of ‘Yes’ votes. It doesn’t look like EBF4 is going to even get to the top 100 unless a LOT more people become aware that the Greenlight page exists.

I wonder if there’s any large pool of people it can really tap into. The #1 highest rated game on Kongregate shouldn’t be having problems getting exposure, but for some reason it is. :(

That doesn’t explain why Kongregate officially badged and promoted a game advertising a direct competitor, though. I honestly don’t think the Kongregate owners are as worried about ‘competition’ as you think they are. :P

Steam deals in games that you have to pay to play, Kongregate deals in free to play games (that rarely have buyable perks that you can pay for with kreds). They seem to be dealing in different enough markets to me.

It seems like it would benefit them if one of their most prominant developers were able to sell their game on Steam thanks to them, since it would mean that the developer has enough funding to make more, better games on Kongregte.

Though I guess from a purely corporative standpoint, “Everyone is our competitor.” could be Kongregate’s opinion. But since Kongregate officially badged “Newgrounds Rumble” which has many direct links to Newgrounds (an immediate competitor in the flash game portal market), it doesn’t seem Kongregate thinks that way.

Epic Battle Fantasy 4 is attempting to be Greenlit for sale through Steam, a highly prized online merchant that generates massive amounts of revenue for any developer lucky enough to get on it.

The developer of EBF4 has been developing games on Kongregate for years and has most likely generated quite a few ad impressions on the site from the millions and millions of hits their games get. So maybe Kongregate could host the link for EBF4’s Greenlight page for a day or two on the front page to help the developer to get onto Steam? :) I would like for Kongregate to be thought of as the place where flash developers go to build up a fanbase and reputation, to make Kongregate their home in the hopes that Kongregate will in turn support them when they want to grow. And if they make a lot of sales through Steam, I’m sure that just means EBF5 will get even more attention on Kongregate when it comes out.

Defender’s Quest, another Kongregate game, is already doing amazingly on Steam: http://store.steampowered.com/app/218410/

So would it be possible for the Kongregate admins to support them in their bid to sold on Steam? :D The developer has promised to update the Kong version with new content as well if it does get approved.

It would be nice if there were a write-in option to be added for a final slot for the ‘Best of 2012’ too, instead of just choosing from a short list of games that you compiled.

Maybe they just pre-typed a post and sent it to you to post on their behalf. I hope so.

Also when is Kongregate going to team up with Count Chocula so I can get some sweet Chocapoints by Kongaming.

Topic: Kongregate / Suggestion: Make the weekly prizes multiple choice.

So prizes you earn aren’t saved until you actually play the game, you have to beat it and then log into the game in a few days to claim your prize?

I feel that should probably be noted somewhere.

Something like a potion in a game you either never play or actually hate isn’t a very appealing weekly contest prize. I was thinking users might enjoy it more if every week they were given a choice between three different prizes to pick from to ensure they’re getting things they can actually make use of.

So, for example, they might pick between an unlockable in Bloons Tower Defense, a Kongai Card or a Potion in Dream World. Or a hat in Fantasy Online, a Potion in Dream World or a straight bonus +15 points.

I only reccomend this because I’ve probably gotten a ton of items waiting for me when I log into Dream World by now when I have absolutely no interest of ever playing it.

Maybe I’ll start caring about Kongregate points once Kongregate starts caring about Kongregate points. They’re good for nothing but increasing your level, which in turn is also good for nothing.

Topic: Kongregate / Kongregate, Facebook Timeline and you!

This seems like a strange decision that I can only forsee spamming up Facebook walls in the future, the same as any other Facebook app that spams things to your wall. Does anyone honestly think anyone on Facebook cares that their friend managed to kill 15 soldiers in Tripod Attack, set a new high score in Star Soccer, collected 34 gems in Talesworth Adventure, or that they collected a bunch of corn or got a new cow in Farmville? Because it looks a bit Farmville-y in terms of the amount of things it puts on people’s walls.

When I see a bunch of Farmville stuff clogging up someone’s wall it doesn’t make me think ‘Wow, Farmville is a pretty cool place’, it makes me think ‘Wow, a bunch of spam trying to find updates’, ’I’m never playing Farmville, these updates look incredibly annoying’ or ’I’m never going to find anything of value in here again, time to remove this friend’.

So you’re risking people on Facebook who have never played Kongregate seeing their friends every flash game accomplishement thinking exactly that. ‘Wow, Kongregate must be like every other spammy Facebook app’.

Then again, Farmville is pretty popular so maybe that’s not such a bad thing and it might work out well for Kongregate and I’m completely wrong. :P It might be a good idea to have everything toggled off automatically at first just in case, so you don’t have a bunch of angry people coming to the forums trying to figure out why Facebook just told all their friends that they rated ‘Princess Dress Up’ highly.

Topic: Kongregate / How long until Kongregate is abandoned?

When the website gets choked to death by an endless flood of terrible Korean pay-to-win flash MMORPGs and everyone flees to flash websites that don’t cater to the trash MMORPG companies.

I wish Kongregate would pander more to indie developers trying to push their full-length indie flash games like Defenders Quest and not Korean MMO factories.

Do you typically click to show hidden comments? I tend to assume they’re spam or trolling, which is the intended result of the system, hiding the garbage. Fanboys covering up genuine criticism isn’t, or at least I should hope not.

Topic: Kongregate / Points

It would be nice if Kongregate treated points the same way Newgrounds did. Which is to say, the higher your level the more influence you have. Your + and – to comments hold more weight and so do your votes on games. Likewise if you are, for example, level 60 it would take numerous level 1-5 people downvoting your comment to have it actually hidden so that you can genuinely criticize a game for valid complaints without having it obscured.

Topic: Kongregate / Game advertisement through PM Spam

Here’s the thing. I want to know when games I have played have new content, or a sequel is coming, or anything else genuinely useful. That’s a genuinely helpful function.

I don’t want developers telling me “Hey guys, thanks for the feedback and the appreciation for my game!” when I gave their game a terrible rating, and I don’t want them to be able to beg everyone who even visited their game for a 5 vote.

I still can’t believe this new function was put in without any oversight whatsoever.

Topic: Kongregate / Game advertisement through PM Spam

Everyone should make a concentrated effort to give New Star Soccer a 1 star simply because they made a mass PM begging for 5 stars so they could hit the top monthly prize. Whoever approved the developer mass PM function made a terrible mistake.

Edit: Actually, it looks like shamelessly begging for 5’s has worked out for them well because they’re now #1 in the monthly. All developers, let this be a lesson to you – if you want that sweet cash money, spam everyone begging for 5’s.

Topic: Kongregate / Why are many more games now sending out mass-PMs?

Hello!

Firstly I’d like to thank you for playing Accelerator – it means a lot to me that people enjoy it and find it as fun as I do.

Secondly, I just wanted to let you know that I /am/ working on Accelerator 2 but I don’t yet have a release date – I’m trying out a few things and really want it to be great :D

Also, Kongregate have removed the “no full screen” restriction on Unity games – Accelerator already supported this but Kongregate prevented it. To enter full screen mode in Accelerator, hit F1, or F2, or ALT+ENTER.

Turns out that running Accelerator in full screen also works (mostly) with nVidia 3D Vision :)

All the best,
Tenebrous

Why are the admins allowing game owners to continue to send out such useless messages. Every single mass message should have to be admin approved first, and if it’s not extremely important denied outright.

Good reasons for a mass message:

“We’ve released an expansion!”
“We’ve released DLC!”
“Previous for-pay DLC is now free!”
“We’re releasing a sequel within the month!”

Bad reasons:

“I want my play count to be higher. Please come back to my game so I can get more revenue.”

Topic: Kongregate / Why are many more games now sending out mass-PMs?

This seems like it would be a great function if a game added an entirely new expansion onto it, like more levels in Cursed Treasure, or if a popular developer wanted to announce that their next big game is being released within the week (Mardek 4, Sonny 3).

Hey, I just wanted to say thanks for playing New Star Soccer. I really appreciate all the feedback and the good ratings. I will continue to improve the game so keep the comments coming.

Quick tip: If you want to get rid of your girlfriend you can always let the relationship get to zero – then she will leave you. (I will add a “Dump” button in the next update.) :D

Cheers,
Simon
Thank you for playing my games and sharing your opinions! I added the Game Gallery (list of all the games mentioned in the quiz), it is accessible via Achievements page. Several texts adjustments have been made – please, feel free to comment whenever you find more mistakes or typos in any languages.
I miss you!

Come back and play with me again?

There’s new stuff in the map shop, and new achievements and quests too. Help me make the biggest snowman ever!

It’s a bit wasted on stuff like this. :P

Topic: Kongregate / Why are many more games now sending out mass-PMs?

It used to be I would get one mass-PM every month or every other month from a developer asking me to come back to their MMORPG / multiplayer game on Kongregate or telling me what was added long after I’d stopped playing. Which was weird.

Over the past week I’ve gotten three different mass-PMs from singleplayer games – not from their developer, but from the games themselves. Which is even weirder, especially considering I only played one for about a minute or two before dropping it and rated two of them 1 out of 5 stars.

Is this some new functionality Kongregate gave to anyone who uploads a game, to mass-PM anyone who has ever clicked on their game? Because it’s pretty annoying.

Flagging the comments and sending in reports actually does get them taken care of. I’ve deleted all of those comments so far, and will continue to do so as long as they get posted. Once the comments get deleted, no one’s following the links anymore. I promise we read all of those reports ;)

P.S. uzzbuzz, what about me? </3

So why isn’t he banned, if you have seen all the reports? Does this mean I can start posting links to pirated versions with unlocked content of all the Kreds-games on Kongregate and the worst you’ll do to me is delete my posts? What about pirated movies and programs, can I expect a slap on the wrist for linking to the full version of Photoshop or a rip of The Avengers when it comes out? How many times can I do it before you’ll do more than just delete my posts?

I’m sorry if that’s a lot of questions, I’m just honestly surprised that Kongregate – a gaming website – does not have a zero tolerance policy for posting pirated game links. Especially for games being sold on Kongregate, through Kongregate.

It’s a level 20, 4 year old account with plenty of unlockables on it, including the old card unlockables. He isn’t doing this on a throwaway account. I guarantee you if that account were banned for maliciously posting pirated links to try and hurt the developer it would sting.

More like thank the admins for allowing him to continue to advertise it.

He’s been doing this in the comments section several times a day for the past few days. I’m not drawing any more attention to it than needs be to get rid of it permanently.

And if anyone is stupid enough to go to the link and download it after I specifically stated it’s released by a Russian group with a history of including trojans in their games that add people to their botnets, I sincerely hope they enjoy their $5 infected game. It’ll probably cost many times than that to clean their machine.
