There should be a maximum number of upvotes on comments. As it is right now, once the list of 5 top comments is full it’s very unlikely to change because those comments get all the exposure. A maximum number of 50-100 and preferring newer comments when both have the same number of upvotes should be good.

People like you save me the work of building straw men.
I’m sorry glad that by spending about half an hour a week to make sure sure people who like to play the GAME and would be active anyway end up in my guild, I also cause such rage!

Topic: Tyrant: General Tyrant Discussion / [Dev] WMT Update [Tyrant ending on August 15th 2015]

I wouldn’t be too sad if not for the fact that the new generation of similar games has even more grinding, often no live PVP at all, and is generally designed for mobile gamers with ages and attention spans in the single digits.

Tyrant has somehow become the good old days compared to the the brave new world of free to play apps with web versions. Sure, we could wish back the good old days where you bought a game once and could still play it 20 years later, but it’s more realistic to think about the good old days of 300 stamina and as much arena PVP as we want. Draft tournaments without any way to pay to win, PVE difficult enough that people are using math and simulations…

Well, angels and sweetness and rest, you know the thing.

The only difference in work load between an active player and an active player in this guild is sending a short text message and changing guilds once every few weeks. Oh and reading those rules once. Big whoop.

So, the successful method we copied from other guild games is actually working (as in, the guild actually does well in the ranking). We should stop using it because, um, it’s not creative or not stylish and some people don’t like it? Something along those lines?

Well, there’s this thing called learning. It’s the reason why there are so many awful boy bands and vampire novels for example: People learn what works, and then keep doing it as long as it works. If you have a new and better guild organization method, beat us with it. I’ll gladly copy that too. And just like the copycat may earn more money because his novel is the same, just with more nudity, I may beat you with your own method because I’ll care less about style.

Added the reminder “Keep in mind that if you’ll move up to Gods, you should try to be online right after the reset or contact the leader of Gods as soon as possible. The guild glory lost from switching to Gods only on tuesday or later is not counted for this competition.”
Hopefully communication will be a bit smoother as people get used to the rotation. As for the “selling out”… I’d say being part of an the organized team of 40 is a much better reason to be proud than being in some average ranking guild where the top performers tend to get dragged down by the rest.

You do have a point, winning is of course what really matters to the guilds founders. But since guilds are simply ranked by the sum of their members activity for now, the top guild basically is 200 free gold a week for players who would be active anyway. After all, you need to play twice as much to earn glory for yourself and your guild, it’s just the same glory.

Join DemiGods of P2W and earn your spot among the Gods, the very best BloodRealm guild. Gods of P2W has the most active players and wins without having to actually pay for it most weeks, that’s 200 gold for your normal activity. And in the other weeks: Would you rather be on the side that takes a huge loss in potions just to beat us, or still get the 2nd place profit?

Guild Philosophy
We are hard but fair: Any highly active BloodRealm player can get into our reserve guild, DemiGods of P2W and earn his or her spot in the top guild by being more active than one of its members. The members of Gods of P2W have to compete with the best members of the reserve to keep earning their 200 gold.
We are also fair about weeks where our members can’t play much. Instead of being permanently kicked, you get moved to that reserve and can earn back your spot.
As for competition with other guilds, the members are of course encouraged but never required to use potions for the sake of the group. You won’t need to waste more than is necessary to reach the reward tier (top 25, top 5, first) you’re aiming for and helping the guild is rewarded by advancing in our hierarchy.

Applying to DemiGods
Send a screenshot to show your arena placement and/or your best deck to the Leader.
If the guild is currently full, contact BogCreature again after a while to know if there is a free spot.

Competition between Gods And DemiGods
If a member of Gods took an announced break for a week, he or she automatically replaces the lowest ranking member on the Monday after. The number of automatic replacements is updated at the very end of this post each week.
Everyone from Gods of P2W who earns less than 14,000 glory in a week may be replaced by a member of DemiGods who earned more than glory that week. The Gods member with the lowest glory can be replaced that way even if it is over 14,000.
The comparisons happen on Sunday sometime before the guild reset when both guild leaders are online.
Using Energy Potions to earn or defend your spot in the Gods is completely fine and helps the guild scores. Keep in mind that if you’ll move up to Gods, you should try to be online right after the reset or contact the leader of Gods as soon as possible. The guild glory lost from switching to Gods late is not counted for this competition.

Applying to Gods
If you’re sure you’ll finish the week in the arena top 46 whose scores are shown, you can apply directly before the arena reset. You’ll join the competition like a member of DemiGods with 2,000 glory less than you have.

Emergency Recruitment
If the guild badly needs more glory and a promising recruit is available, the leader of Gods may kick players with less than 1,000 glory per day so far. The person kicked that way can join DemiGods as soon as they have an open spot. The replacement member will be treated as having 1,500 glory per day s/he missed.

Kicking from DemiGods of P2W
If you earn less than 7,000 arena glory for two weeks in a row and don’t at least explain why you’re busy at the end of the first week, you’ll be kicked. You can re-apply to DemiGods when it has open spots, but it’s entirely the leaders choice if you’ll be accepted again.

Announced Inactivity: Gods of P2W
If you know you won’t be able to play much for the next week, please message the leader:
You should leave and apply to DemiGods on Monday of your “inactive” week (guaranteed to be accepted). You will be guaranteed to get back into Gods immediately on the Monday after you “inactive time” instead of following the normal rules. That way, there is no gold income disadvantage for announcing your inactive weeks in advance.

Announced Inactivity: DemiGods of P2W
If you announce a period of inactivity before it starts, you won’t be kicked for up to 4 weeks of less than 7,000 glory in a row, instead of the usual two.
If you respond to the warning you get after an un-announced week of low glory stating that you’ll be busy with real life for a while, you’re allowed two more weeks of low glory instead of the usual one.
So announcing your inactivity before it starts is really the best thing you can do. Contact the leader to do so.

Hierarchy
We won’t use in-game ranks for security reasons (catfacing). All members of both guilds can make suggestions to the leaders at any time, speak up against rules they don’t like and so on. If you prove your commitment by scoring 28,000 glory or more in a week where Gods needs it (intense competition), we’ll trust you when after a week that would normally get you moved to DemiGods you say you’ll be highly active next week. Members who have proven themselves that way and are online at the time will also be asked if they agree with guild leader decisions.
If you get 28,000 glory while in DemiGods or get 23,000 and volunteer to stay there a week longer, you get the same benefits as they need help to finally become a top guild in their own right.

IRC
There is a guild chat channel for those plans that require a group conversation. PM me if you want the login details for it. Try not to hand it to outsiders or annoying security measures will have to be added.

Special cases for Monday, the 6th of October
kobold01 will rejoin gods. May be more members if volunteers for helping out Demis return.

The goal of a game is usually to win. Anyway, we are full. We may make a sister guild in the near future to swap out members when someone is busy in a given week. Anyone interested in joining that can apply the way described in the opening post, too.

Our goal is to win every single week. You have to be willing and able to do what it takes to win. So you have to have played farm realm for a long time, own good cards, pots or gold, and be evil.

A screen shot showing your in game name, a good deck, and a lot of gold should be enough to convince me.
Currently being in the top 25 is fine too.

Other should be the sum of the 100+ countries that aren’t listed, so for a free app available worldwide throught the android/iOS stores it doesn’t seem weird to me. English classes are mandatory in a lot of “other” countries too.

With the risk of this already being posted in this subforum…

http://developers.kongregate.com/blog/gdc-core-games-real-numbers-going-cross-platform

Pages 9, and 37-39 are the most relevant ones to Tyrant. They explain very well why the 8 people working at Synapse Games have been very busy with Tyrant Unleashed. To not miss a promotion deadline, they had to release it less finished than planned and had to add a lot of features ASAP after that to capitalize on that promotion.

Topic: BloodRealm / Eternal lock, is this possible?

Decks like that work and are being used a lot. All other stun cards and Lady of the Mist get used in them too. Spellslinger, Plague Lord and Veil allies can be trouble of course. You really should not play 2 Banshees, as the deck will cycle often lot since matches will take a lot of turns.

Lol indeed, it’s so easy to be wrong. That would leave the power below 0, so for example another Infuse would make it 0 instead of what it should be. It’s also easy to forget that if people could fix a known bug on a system with three different clients, testing guidelines etc. in 5 minutes, they actually would do it.

Topic: BloodRealm / New Packs are actually worse then before

You do also get 3 times as many XP and 1.5 times as many 5 star cards from the improved skull packs (3 of the six cards have a chance of being one). Though especially for new players, skulls aren’t easy to get. But with basic packs now also having the possibility of multiple 2-3 star cards for a little more XP, and the fact that the 2 star fodder from the elite pack is more than zero XP, I’d estimate it to be very close to the old values overall.

Topic: BloodRealm / Ogmas 1st blood ability stacks...

It’s intentional and Ogma is actually not a very popular champion because, well, most champion abilities are very strong and later with fully upgraded cards, battles don’t last very many turns. In the terms of most games, Majus ability to draw two cards every turn would be “overpowered” but in this game it’s one of the less used abilities…

Topic: BloodRealm / More performance through canvas link

One of the most common complaints about the game is how slow it gets after a few matches and how much memory it starts to use (memory leak).

For me personally, the game is a lot faster when I use my canvas link instead of its kongregate page (basically canvas link = the game without chat, kong banners, etc).

To get your canvas, use Firefox with the Adblock Plus ad-on (which is also good for, well, blocking ads).

On the game’s kongregate page, open Adblock’s list of blockable elements (in the Firefox extras menu). The search for, do_not_share in that list and copy the link you find. that is your canvas link, you can play the game by copying it into your address bar.

Oh and this should go without saying, but actually DO NOT SHARE your link. It will give someoene else access for your account, and that person might just sacrifice all your rare cards.

Topic: BloodRealm / Easy way to fix matchmaking and stop scaring away most newbies

Maybe the worst part is that most of the opponents with maxed out cards are not real players decks but fake ones with real-sounding first and last names. Probably added to make us believe a lot of real humans were stupid enough to spend thousands of dollars on silver to upgrade 1-star cards…
And I’m fairly certain that strategy is failing horribly. I never see anyone with a normal kongregate nickname who has maxed out 1-stars. ;)

Topic: BloodRealm / Best use of limited gold?

You’ll get 500 more gold when you upgrade your first card to level 60 and after a while of playing, getting a total of 100 a week from logins and tournaments is realistic. So planning ahead to get two premium champions with their guaranteed spells is the best thing to do in most cases.

I’d say read through all the champions abilities and their starter deck spells, as well as the 4* and 5* cards for the different realms in Forge/Library/All Cards, decide what deck you want to aim for and go for it. Unless you want to stick with one of the starter champions, this will mean getting one premium champion for playing and one more just for the spells a month or two later. Some are of the opinion that the free 5* ally card at immortal level is also an important criterium for which champ to pick, but you can get those out of tier ten packs eventually if you’re in this game fo the long run.

Lastly,I found these two links useful for decisionmaking:

Topic: BloodRealm / Easy way to fix matchmaking and stop scaring away most newbies

Tl;dr version
Highly upgraded cards should be scaled down when they are in low-level champions decks, and champion level difference in arena should be limited to in that combination make it feel more fair and stop scaring away new players.

The problem
The number one thing in chats and comments is the horrible matchmaking. The games player-base is not really large, and newbies get driven away when they have to face enemies with twice as much health and/or maxed out cards repeatedly so that player-base is barely growing.

Here’s the simple fix
First of all, arena opponents should not be more than maybe two “ascension dots” above or below the player. That’s just common sense and could be added instead or in addition to the current tier system.

Next up, there’s the issue of veteran players having disproportionately upgraded cards on champions they’re just starting to level up. Just add a card level limit based on ascension dots, automatically scaling down cards above that level. The campaign enemy card levels could be used as a guideline.

For a free player on their first champion, downscaling would really not happen unless they put it all into one card which in my opinion should be discouraged anyway. The arena tier difficulty ramp would still exist and consist of enemy decks being maxed out at the limit of their tier, as well as having rarer cards and being built more skillfully. In addition to the own champion levelling up in the process of playing.

For devs: It makes sense financially
Both of these suggestions together will make arena matches more or less fair, while players will still see all the neat spells and 5* cards buyers have, and still be incentivized to buy packs and premium champs. Plus leveling up to god doesn’t take that long, and I imagine the number of people turning into super-heavy buyers and maxing out all their before reaching a high champion tier has to be very low. Even rich kids tend to play games for a while before dumping thousands of dollars into it, and the changes I propose should make it more enjoyable for those “whales” too. Oh and my average card level when hitting god was maybe 11 or 12, so obviously there’s plenty incentives to spend cash on upgrading. The card level scaling would also make leveling a new champion for veterans less of a ridiculous experience with very mismatched champion health and card attack.

As for the current arena tiers, they could still work with the additional champion level constraint, or could be replaced with tiers based on ascension level of course.

Topic: Tyrant: General Tyrant Discussion / Faction Recruitment Thread

Lightbringers is a level 17 faction aiming to provide as many tokens and reward cards as possible without demanding too much time of our members.
We are one of the oldest active factions in this game and offer a place for players who are still interested in the game but don’t want to worry about being kicked or the faction disbanding. We only require a small monthly loyalty gain and check your offense/defense statistics to make sure you are still keeping decks up to date. After all, we do want players that enjoy playing this game.
We offer freedom of pressure and many of our members have invented winning decks for every area of the game, moved on to one of the top ranking factions after finding the motivation to spend more time on Tyrant again, programmed simulators, and generally enjoyed this game.

Apply at http://www.kongregate.com/games/synapticon/tyrant?kv_apply=918002 or write a PM to Egalisator. You should be at least level 50 with a decent card pool.

Topic: Tyrant: General Tyrant Discussion / Faction Recruitment Thread

Lightbringers is a stable and friendly level 16 faction that mostly consists of veterans who don’t care for the stress in the top factions. We need some fresh blood for the conquest reset coming up, bet you didn’t expect that.
All members are made Warmasters so you can start wars and tile invasions if you like.

We’re one of the oldest factions still active on Kongregate. The requirement is 500 loyalty points per month, so you can for example take a week off from Tyrant without any questions asked as long as you can make up for it later. With 300 Stamina per bar that’s one average login a day on surge. Easy as pie with the skip button. Surging is not mandatory by any means, and defense decks create loyalty too, so meeting the requirement is not hard at all. Plus we won’t actually kick you unless you are completely inactive, don’t respond to a warning PM, or are under the requirements for two months in a row.

You should be at least level 50 to join. You are by no means required to say anything in faction chat, but you should at least look there when unsure what to spend your stamina on.

We are not really aiming for the top ranks, but to continue to gain FP to eventually unlock rewards. We do conquest invasions as well, for additional FP and for fun.

Apply at http://www.kongregate.com/games/synapticon/tyrant?kv_apply=918002 or write a PM to Egalisator. If you are accepted, you will be sent a link to our faction rules, please read them.
