Topic: Bloons Monkey City / BMC Saving Trouble - CT, Bonus Crates and more

It’s sure a lot better at saving LOSS of resources than GAIN by some amazing coincidence, isn’t it? ;)
It happened a few times that I bought expensive things like tier 4 unlocks or banana farm capacity upgrades in the city, even waited for the saving icon to stop flashing. The city cash and bloonstones were gone, the purchase itself did not get saved.
It also happens that, again even with the indicator having stopped flashing, only some of the farms I collected from STAY collected if I change cities fairly quickly afterwards. Having to wait around like half a minute and collect a small amount of coins more just to make sure the big collection gets stored, is quite the chore every single hour.
A typical example of devs only fixing the part of a bug that’s good for/exploitable by the players…

Topic: Bloons Monkey City / A Brief Guide to Tower Cost Efficiency (at page 1)

Aside from BADS being built maybe 10 rounds later than Sungod, it also can’t pierce through a wall of blimps which really hurts performance on CT rounds 40+. I listed the best-performing copy of each tower so ninja and Spectre really are inflated by building some of them before the 4/2 farms.

Played the map again a day later. Ninjas and tacks did a little worse and MOAB Maulers got about 1.5k. I think this can be explained by me misremembering the Mauler number the first time, and being too lazy to use activated abilities which grant extra pierce via MK this time. Ninjas who always hit their max pierce and 3/X Tack shooters with their sheer number of relatively low-pierce shots seem to profit a lot from that effect. Does anyone know if/how that pierce bonus stacks by the way?

I looked at pop counts of a a few towers on my second city in contested territory, after going 20ish rounds without anything left to buy. On that spiralling grasslands map so they all were basically shooting all the time, mostly at ZOMGs, DDTs and their children. Most MK levels at 4 since I only recently started playing again. All towers were also under MIBs.
Only a very limited number of towers I looked at but because of these fairly equal conditions the numbers could be of interest. (?)

Spiked Mines ~60k (Without getting to pop anything for most of these rounds so would have easily been able to get 120k)
Spectre ~125k (probably got about 40k before I built most of the other towers, as they were guarding the farms so to speak)
Bloonjtsu ~23k
MOAB-SHREDR ~9k (same as with Spiked Mines, they could have gotten double the number since they were placed at the exit)
3/2 Tack Shooter ~5k (they were placed in such a way that only half the tacks could possibly hit anything, but could git up to 3 lines of bloons)
BADS ~35k (only bought this after selling my farms so seems to easily outperform Sungod)
Sun god ~38k
The Big One ~10k
Glaive Lord ~6k
Master of Air ~5k
Moab Maulers ~500 (Hull damage doesn’t seem to count, how silly…)

Thoughts: Spiked Mines are great against tightly packed blimps, meaning when each explosion hits more than 1 and they might even get to blast mutliple goroups of the resulting ceramics at once. Spectre being awesome is well-known of course. Ninjas and 3/X tack shooters are extremely efficient and outclass path 1 boomerangs by doing the same things better/cheaper. They would also have done even better with more MK.

Topic: Bloons Monkey City / Why am i connecting forever?

The really bad thing about this is that the bloonstones and crates for starting a match with extra money get deducted before it’s even loaded. I use the 10 bloonstones option for very hard/impoppable MvM attacks and probably lost a few 100 when the matches didn’t even load.

Topic: Technical Support / Flash sandbox violation message

It’s not a third party issue. The official flash debugging tool says Kong chat code throws errors, as in unhandled exceptions. These errors don’t seem to actually cause bad stuff, so it’s kind of a “tell your programmers to check it out or don’t, probably doesn’t matter” thing in my humble opinion. I just figured posting what I noticed is the nice thing to do in case you go for the first option.

Topic: Technical Support / Flash sandbox violation message

I know uninstalling the debug tool that shows an error message would fix it on my end, but you think maybe it’d be better if the error itself gets fixed?
What I have installed is the Flash Player Content Debugger which is basically a Flash Player that shows where errors happen.
http://www.adobe.com/support/flashplayer/downloads.html
Kellanthor, why would I possibly go through the trouble of taking www.kongregate.com off a list of websites a flash file downloaded from that very site can access? What would I stand to gain from such a hack?

Topic: Technical Support / Flash sandbox violation message

Ever since I installed some Flash development tools, I get this popup when loading Kongregate games some times (I’d guess about 1 in 3-4 times).
Example from loading caravaneer 2 (both game and chat work fine except for this error message).
I’m only starting to learn Flash but to me it sounds like it considers chat.kongregate.com and www.kongregate.com to be 2 different domains. The fix is probably just adding a Security.allowDomain() somewhere?

SecurityError: Error #2060: Security sandbox violation: ExternalInterface caller http://chat.kongregate.com/gamez/0022/6761/live/Caravaneer2-Kongregate.swf?kongregate_game_version=1418001242 cannot access http://www.kongregate.com/games/SugarFreeGames/caravaneer-2.

Topic: Bloons Monkey City / This game is so underrated

Well we used to get to pick map, difficulty, and use all upgrades right away. Now it’s like an hour of 3 dart shooters per map of red bloons before we even need anything else. With the slow pace of unlocking towers, for longer than many 5/5 games even take to beat, all this “adds” over previous bloon games is grinding as in doing the same boring things over and over again. Well to be fair it also adds all the lag and disconnect potential that comes with being a client-server game. A TD without having to learn using different towers on different enemies in the first HOUR isn’t really much of a TD. The perfect finish reward that would be great in any real TD is an incentive against playing harder maps than we absolutely have to.
I get that grinding is the new black because in the age of micropayment, being addicting and lasting long matters more than “fun”. I even get addicted to those kinds of games all the time myself. They just usually do not get a TOP rating which is why I usually don’t feel a need to rant like this.

Topic: Kongregate / Suggestions

There should be a maximum number of upvotes on comments. As it is right now, once the list of 5 top comments is full it’s very unlikely to change because those comments get all the exposure. A maximum number of 50-100 and preferring newer comments when both have the same number of upvotes should be good.

Topic: Kongregate Multiplayer Games / [WarMetal Tyrant] ending on *EDIT* Sept 1, 2015

I wouldn’t be too sad if not for the fact that the new generation of similar games has even more grinding, often no live PVP at all, and is generally designed for mobile gamers with ages and attention spans in the single digits.

Tyrant has somehow become the good old days compared to the the brave new world of free to play apps with web versions. Sure, we could wish back the good old days where you bought a game once and could still play it 20 years later, but it’s more realistic to think about the good old days of 300 stamina and as much arena PVP as we want. Draft tournaments without any way to pay to win, PVE difficult enough that people are using math and simulations…

Well, angels and sweetness and rest, you know the thing.

Other should be the sum of the 100+ countries that aren’t listed, so for a free app available worldwide throught the android/iOS stores it doesn’t seem weird to me. English classes are mandatory in a lot of “other” countries too.

Let me clarify, I did not mean “explains” as in “excuses”. I don’t really have an opinion on this myself aside from “oh look,I found a sauce”.

With the risk of this already being posted in this subforum…

http://developers.kongregate.com/blog/gdc-core-games-real-numbers-going-cross-platform

Pages 9, and 37-39 are the most relevant ones to Tyrant. They explain very well why the 8 people working at Synapse Games have been very busy with Tyrant Unleashed. To not miss a promotion deadline, they had to release it less finished than planned and had to add a lot of features ASAP after that to capitalize on that promotion.

Topic: Kongregate Multiplayer Games / [WarMetal Tyrant] Faction Recruitment Thread

Lightbringers is a level 17 faction aiming to provide as many tokens and reward cards as possible without demanding too much time of our members.
We are one of the oldest active factions in this game and offer a place for players who are still interested in the game but don’t want to worry about being kicked or the faction disbanding. We only require a small monthly loyalty gain and check your offense/defense statistics to make sure you are still keeping decks up to date. After all, we do want players that enjoy playing this game.
We offer freedom of pressure and many of our members have invented winning decks for every area of the game, moved on to one of the top ranking factions after finding the motivation to spend more time on Tyrant again, programmed simulators, and generally enjoyed this game.

Apply at http://www.kongregate.com/games/synapticon/tyrant?kv_apply=918002 or write a PM to Egalisator. You should be at least level 50 with a decent card pool.

Topic: Kongregate Multiplayer Games / [WarMetal Tyrant] Faction Recruitment Thread

Lightbringers is a stable and friendly level 16 faction that mostly consists of veterans who don’t care for the stress in the top factions. We need some fresh blood for the conquest reset coming up, bet you didn’t expect that.
All members are made Warmasters so you can start wars and tile invasions if you like.

We’re one of the oldest factions still active on Kongregate. The requirement is 500 loyalty points per month, so you can for example take a week off from Tyrant without any questions asked as long as you can make up for it later. With 300 Stamina per bar that’s one average login a day on surge. Easy as pie with the skip button. Surging is not mandatory by any means, and defense decks create loyalty too, so meeting the requirement is not hard at all. Plus we won’t actually kick you unless you are completely inactive, don’t respond to a warning PM, or are under the requirements for two months in a row.

You should be at least level 50 to join. You are by no means required to say anything in faction chat, but you should at least look there when unsure what to spend your stamina on.

We are not really aiming for the top ranks, but to continue to gain FP to eventually unlock rewards. We do conquest invasions as well, for additional FP and for fun.

Apply at http://www.kongregate.com/games/synapticon/tyrant?kv_apply=918002 or write a PM to Egalisator. If you are accepted, you will be sent a link to our faction rules, please read them.

Topic: Game Design / Why so many Numbers in Decriptions?

Nothing. I just feel like most people don’t actually buy games because they have over 9000 items, but because they expect the gameplay to be fun. So maybe the short descriptions should focus more on why it’s fun. But that may just be me.

Topic: Game Design / Why so many Numbers in Decriptions?

Game descriptions very often tend to mostly consist of lines like…

“Pick one of X distinct character classes and cut your path through Y types of monsters with Z different weapons.”

“Build your armies from K different unit types to finish the L levels of the campaign for well over M hours of fun and infinitely more in N different multiplayer game modes.”

To me it seems to say “We admit this game has not enough differences from every other game of this genre to fill this space with text, so here we are bombarding you with impressive-sounding statistics.”
Since big companies that can actually do market research often prefer this kind of description, there are obviously reasons for it. What are they?

I’m never using the Mammoth Tank deck again. Last time i was first for most of the raid, this time dead last with the same deck. It may have a higher ARD than the Gauntlet one but using something that auto-loses under so many different conditions is not worth it… Also if I had gotten Cannon Walls instead, I would hav edone better in standards for weeks.

Topic: Kongregate Multiplayer Games / [WarMetal Tyrant] To Devs - Is there going to be a return of energy refills?

The Devs removed them for reasons, you know. Time-limited energy based events as well as raids that would fail without a refill get people to spend real money. And free players often even have an advantage from it (their raids do not fail) so this is a way to get money without making too many people quit. Even one refill a month could be saved up for those situations where it’s really needed and keep small spenders as well as first time spenders from even thinking about buying them. First time spenders that would also be tempted by the bonuses in bigger Kred/WB packs…

Topic: Kongregate Multiplayer Games / [WarMetal Tyrant] [DEV] New Promos + Legendary!

What would the devs gain by admitting that they may hurry up switching out popular promos that people are likely to still buy for 25% more WB? Or admitting that the Hammerthorn thing maaay have been on purpose? Nothing good, so it’s unrealistic to expect them to. That’s like expecting politicians to say “we screwed up really badly” on public TV when just 5% of the population are seeing the particular screwup without press coverage, and those 5% are disillusioned about all the parties anyway!

Arguably, what is playable but does not break the meta makes it more diverse, so as long as WB-only cards are not overpowered and don’t encourage boring spam decks, they do add something to my gaming experience. And I say that assomeone who stopped buying WB due to a broken meta a long time ago.

One last thing, I don’t get how those cards are so terrible. I see a card with potential to revive quickstrike (very decent statline, lots of enfeeble on play options nowadays, and there’s something to be said for fast phase), a summoner that has good synergy with the recent epicenter upgrade (bad survivability but righteous are a faction that can work with 9 HP, what with the Gauntlet flanking, the Meccas, etc), and… okay the legendary would mostly be for high-risk, high-reward strike all decks but we have augment cards that outperform it in that role.

Topic: Kongregate Multiplayer Games / [WarMetal Tyrant] [DEV] New Promos + Legendary!

They should probably just have merged FP3 and acted all innocent like “To not make the update too small we also added new promos”. Promos are often thrown onto updates, but when they come alone, meaning an update with only pay content, the community reaction tends to be negative.
