Topic: Kongregate / New Downloadable Game - Bomb Buddies

2.) …You really don’t have to download them…so I don’t see a problem there. They don’t have badges yet, if they ever even will. There are still unity games that are badged that people can’t play, so if happens and you still don’t want to download, take comfort in knowing you aren’t the only one who can’t get every single badge.

Saying you can ignore a Download-Only game and continue using the site is like saying you can go to 4chan and ignore the gore pictures. You can, but it’s only a matter of time before you click something and it’s in your face.

Everyone who cared about what Gamestop was going to do to Kongregate knew that they were going to monetize it in some way, and the Admins were quick to try and calm everyone down. Now, what do we have? A Premium feature. MMOs out the ying-yang (a percentage of every microtransaction in those games is filtered back to Kong/Gamestop, or otherwise they pay to have their games placed on Kong; if you say otherwise, you’re either an idiot or a liar). A downloadable-only game which will inevitably (If it doesn’t already) have microtransactions. And all of it is “Completely optional.”

Just like all the Member Rewards club/Preordering games/trade-ins are at Gamestop, right? Optional?

Nobody complains about those things, right?

Right, guys?

Next, the banks help increase your hard limits for storage. The problem is they are HARD limits for storage instead of the SOFT limited BYM has. A soft limit means you can not collect any more resources of that type if it is full. A hard limit is where you lose out on anything that goes over the limit. While collection from houses/mines works fine getting bonuses from leveling/quests fails massively here. It doesn’t help that you can not see what type of reward you get for a quest so you can not plan accordingly. No one likes having a 30k coin limit and being at the limit then finishing a quest (by accident, actually) and watching the 9k coin reward vanish into thin air. In BYM you can use quest rewards to go past the cap so the player never loses them.

HEAR HEAR. I just got 30k for completeing a quest, when I had MAYBE 10k room. Where’d the rest of my money go? Thin air? Not acceptable.

Anyhoo, for a winner… furrymessiah takes the cake. Not sure if it’s the ambiguity of the story, or a cry to abandon Kong, or what… but I do notice that the stipple is actually a stipple. Kudos on that one. So Kongrats, furry. I’ll PM from here.

It was actually supposed to convey that there’s no reason to complain or moan about the changes that happen to the site—that it all turns out for the good, eventually.

Topic: Kongregate Multiplayer Games / [8BitMMO (Construction Sandbox)] Here's some feedback, RobbyZ.

Solsund, I have to agree with you on most points. While I didn’t experience all of your issues, and worked around others (You can put down blocks, then pick them up and put them back down again for the ‘lay blocks’ quests), the fact of the matter is, I would not spend money on a game this early in development.

Frankly, I wouldn’t have released it to non K+ players at this point. It’s…well, it’s not a broken game, but it feels like the finals assignment for an ambitious Java programming student.
If I were the professor, I’d give it a B- for effort, but poor performance and execution.

As for the brony up there, it’s a ridiculous logical fallacy that says you have to know how to create something to judge it’s quality. You don’t need to know how to build a car to know if a car is a piece of crap. If the engine falls out of the car if you drive over 55, or the tires randomly explode, or if you turn the headlights on and it disables the brakes, you don’t need an engineering degree to figure out, “Hey, maybe they should have worked out the problems with this car before selling it to me.”

I like being able to see the icons for the monthly/weekly games, but it de-emphasizes the fact that those games are in a contest.

The Recommended Badges thing is a cute idea, but I’m not fond of the way it doesn’t tell you the parameters of obtaining the badge.

Other than that, I like the new layout.

Regarding the monthly/weekly games, those actually aren’t the contest leaders. Those are the top-rated games for the previous 7 days and previous 30 days. While they will often be similar, the actual contest results are visible on www.kongregate.com/contests. Since we’re using a rolling 7 day and rolling 30 day high score, these “high rated” games should change around a lot and provide some interesting and potentially hard to find gems to try out.

I should also mention that games that are featured elsewhere (like with new badges or in the popular games list) won’t show up in these lists.

But originally, the contest games were shown on the front page. This is the feature I’m missing, and frankly, I think should be brought back.

The Wiki has only been up for five days, and there is a lot of info to add. I’ve written/rewriten close to a dozen articles just in one day, and there’s only two other people besides me working on it.

If you’d like to help, feel free to add any information you’re familiar with to the Wiki yourself. Just be sure to make an account so you can be properly credited. This isn’t 4chan, don’t stay anonymous. :3

xamtheking and gaminic: the gift pack will give out cash gift, not diamonds. cash gift works the same as diamonds, except that it can not be used in auction house and arena (to avoid multiple account loophole). Diamonds must be purchased using kreds.

for example, you see 0(250) next to diamonds icon, that means 0 diamonds and 250 cash gift.

This, I think, is the big confusion as far as the giveaway is concerned. Most people, myself included, were expecting Diamonds.

Topic: Kongregate / Suggestions

Originally posted by Rannen:

There was a suggestion I saw among the comments for the game “Loved” that I feel should be given serious consideration. Many games on Kong are made quite poorly with respect to the actual gameplay, but are still highly rated due to the deeper meaning that many players find in such games. It was suggested that a new category be created for these games, that they might be better enjoyed by those who appreciate them and better avoided by those who don’t. There is the concern that this might more easily allow such games to avoid the down-rating of their detractors and perhaps come to out-rate truly deserving games, like Protector 4 or Sonny 2, that clearly took a lot of time, effort, and expertise to make. However I feel that splitting them off into a separate category will reduce difficulties and tensions far more than it will create them.

For lack of a more eloquent addendum, all I can say is, ‘Seconded.’
