[Vorp!] My first feedback for a game on Kongregate
I usually dont care enough about a game here to provide feedback.
But this game has a lot of potential. It reminds me of Armada Online and Dota.
So let me get this out of the way:
1. Character Progression is what makes me care and come back for more.
Of course, if the gameplay and connection are not fun, then I dont even bother. If the monetization is too intrusive, it also undermines everything nice that a game might have for me.
I understand how balance is important, but Im not talking strictly vertical character progression. Im talking about long term objectives that are meaningful.
Getting a random pack of tech? Buying a ship? That is not nearly enough. Improving rank is not meaningful enough. The techs values are a joke. I wont even bother to play this game for longer than 3 days with these shallow simplistic progression elements. If you want this game to keep the player base around and grow, wich is needed for the arena, otherwise people stop playing just because there is not enough players, you need to improve the longevity of the game. Meaningful rewards that justify one coming back for more, playing more, sticking around. You need to provide lots of things for players to buy, unlock, achieve, tinker with, customize, improve. Right now, that element of the game is missing so much that a diamond such as this game potential is being wasted. This game could be huge, but right now, there is no point in playing it. Its not about more ships or more OPs. I already have the Ship I want and the OPs I want. I keep getting techs I dont want and thats frustrating. Not an incentive for me to play more, to get more techs I dont want. These techs are useless in their values, in their function, in their reward ratio, in their method of acquisition.
2. Game needs an Economy/Trading/Auction House.
Things I dont like:
Inability to hand pick my team mates. I want to choose with whom I want to play, set up an strategy based on each member gear/loadout/style and then have fun. Without being able to do that there is no fun, no point in this game.
A. The Depot Return Dependency.
B. Unable to pick a full team for a ranked match.
C. Bang Acquisition stricktly tied to Performance.
D. Unable to progress character and acquire bang in an inferior, yet alternative way: Co-op or solo play against AI. There are dozens of ideas here, from hold territory, cap the flag, destroy some base, kill a boss, you name it. I see no excuses for this game.
Check what Armada Online did in terms of crafting/character progression/farming of materials/game modes/enemy variety.
Major Problems With:
→ method of acquisition is bad: too tied to performance
→ players on the same team compete over the same sources of bang, this is super bad. We need an Integral Rewards system to promote socialization. Only a few exceptions should be tied to specific player performance.
→ the pace of acquisition of bang
→ I want to be able to choose:
*who I play with
*who I dont want to play with
*who I dont want to play against
*to play with the ship I own
Right now I can only invite 1 person. I want to invite a full team, not just one, not just two. You see, on my team I just want to play with people I pick, thats the person I am. I know the people I want to play with by playing against them.
It also does not let me prevent certain players from playing on my team or on the opposite team. I should be able to type their names in and the system would do the job for me. To me, not being able to hand pick my team mates is GAME BREAKINGLY FRUSTRATING TO ME.
Either the game allows me to pick my team or I wont play it. This game is not the sort of game that one just plays with randoms. I dont play for fun. I dont hang around just to chill. I play to progress my character to the limit and to win. Right now, for me to get both and accept the responsability for my loss, I need to hand pick my team. Wasting 20 minutes or more of my time per match, many times per day because the game did not allowed me to pick another friend is not acceptable by any stretch of the imagination.
If this remain as is, I will play this game once every few months just to see what is new. Picking my team is really important to me. Do what you gotta do with the ELO Ranking, but let me pick my team mates, not 1, all of them. One team member does not change an yota of the frustration of a single dude being afk, exiting, surrendering, doing his own stuff, not being a team player and otherwise screwing his own team.
Zero tolerance for the current Team system.
Right now I have to exit and get a new match whenever the criteria I defined is not matched. I want to input some names on some boxes and let the system handle it for me.
Ability to pick the ship I own, regardless of whatever, even if there is more than one on my team using the same Ship, I dont care. I bought a Ship, thats the only one I want to play with and if its not letting me, this is bad design. Therefore I say that the game should allow more than one Ship of the same type when the user has bought said Ship.
Surrender and Exit
Right now, if one player wants to surrender and the others dont want to, the player who wants to surrender can just exit the match or remain afk inside the Depot.
I want a system that tells me who quit how many matches, who afked for more than 60 seconds in a game and who surrendered how many matches and then allows me to set a filter regarding me playing with or against players with certain ratios on those stats. I dont play with afkers, exiters or surrenderers.
