Gear switching works perfectly fine if you do that when the meter is not too far up red.

Topic: Tyrant / Now we play the waiting game??

@ Blockinlick

Your point 1 is turning the logic around. If the developer has to make you beat the same mission many times to make up the amount of time (s)he desires you to play, that only means the game does NOT have enough content, quantitatively saying. It does not contradict the fact that this game is high-quality, but we don’t simply raise quantity to compensate quality.

I agree with you about the competitiveness issue, but energy system doesn’t really change the nature of the problem. The competition just changes from sitting down non-stop to logging in from time to time, which is still a non-skill competition; just that it is annoying. A daily energy cap (well, say 1000) is going to annoy much fewer people and still restricts how much people can do.

I hope Dream World does not make me prejudice too much against this game, and it is unfair to compare Tyrant against Dream World (because of Tyrant’s superior game content). But seeing that the developer uses a low energy cap instead of a daily cap, it is hard to find an alternative explanation than milking game click, and so on. People in Dream World forum started with “bitching” about it and finally arrived at some deep mind-blowing discussions.

I guess two of the biggest questionable “grinds” are playing the same mission multiple times and the energy system.

Say it takes some skill to beat a deck one time. Perhaps also the second time so as to prove that you are not winning just once at an astronomically small chance, but not four or five times. I haven’t gone very far in the game, but as far as I see, winning a deck the fourth or fifth time is just mechanical.

I believe many would agree that a “true gamer” doesn’t beat a game just for the sake of beating it. They would want to do something that a monkey cannot do. Well, some endurance is inevitably required. But not to the degree as required by the current setting of the game.

Second point. It is pretty clear that the developer creates the energy system just for money. Period. It may be annoying to non-paying players, but people just choose whether to pay for it. No moral values involved here, so it seems pointless to say whether you “respect” the grind caused by the energy system. I mean, I wouldn’t say whether I “respect” a merchant.

Topic: Tyrant / Now we play the waiting game??

This game is reminiscent of Dream World which was released like a year ago.

Both Dream World and Tyrant…

  • uses energy system,
  • sells energy (and many other junk) for real money,
  • earnt two hard badges from Kong (which many blames on filthy money),
  • added “beta” at the end of the name,
  • have a sickening “Rate us 5 stars!” slogan at the main page,
  • have quite some proportion of grinding (playing the same mission multiple times),
  • have similarly working guild systems.

I am genuinely haunted. I feel that they are the same game made by the same person, who simply wants to squeeze money from this genre.

However, to be fair, I must say that this game is a LOT better than Dream World. In fact, I see a lot of potential in the strategic elements. Many approaches to win a battle, each with their counters. The 10-card restriction really makes the battle brisk and exciting, while does not at all get in the way of variation of strategy. I would give a sound 5/5 if there is not the energy system (while still a 2/5 for Dream World even without energy).

Sorry for the tirade. The energy system just triggered too much from me.

How about putting it in another way: add up the cost of all creatures, divide it by 5, the result is the optimal number of pillars?

Just personal feeling: this game doesn’t quite have the depth for a mentor program; on the other hand, I would be really interested to share knowledge if there is one.

But the fact is that the purpose can be achieved just by a well-written sticky information thread, containing only the most important links (say official game, official forum, deck archives, tournaments, trainer, etc).

Topic: Elements / How to farm lvl 5?

I would have asked the same question of “what level 5 is” but in a sarcastic manner.

If you have so few coins (< 1500) that you cannot even build a mono-aether (M-A) or a standard Rainbow, you use rush decks to farm level 3. After you have like 2000 coins, you build M-A or Rainbow to farm FG all the way and earn coins faster than from Level 5. I have forgotten what level 5 is, literally.

Topic: Elements / Ideas for decks to defeat a fake god

True. Basically every one relies on stupid AI at some point, like me, who uses redundant hourglasses and UGs to “protect” phase shields, ambush for Miracle-skipping, Antimatter opponents’ creatures whose owner would not destroy…

But some decks can crush certain FGs in a way that the FGs are totally helpless, say Mono-Aether w/ Lobo against Destiny, Neptune, and Fractal-Hope against Divine Glory. And some decks wins FG by relying on “less stupid” things. PU-Voodoo is utterly stupid – it is more like a coding problem than stupid AI.

Aside: I hope the AI is wiser so that FG victory are more victorious.

Wrong and wrong. It works FULLY UN-UPPED. You just need to tweak it.

Secondly, it’s rather easy. Put a doll out, BB it as much as you can, do some SIMPLE math, and then PU it. How hard is that?

Point taken. But feel it. Is it cool for a beginner to use this deck? I mean, PU-Voodoo abuse. ABUSE. A deck which totally relies on stupid AI. (I hope I don’t need to explain why PU-Voodoo is unintended.) This is not constructive for a beginner.

In my opinion, abuse decks are only for those who played Elements for a long time, got bored with the traditional decks, and want to squeeze every possibility of beating FG.

The idea is nice. It is kinda hard to balance, though. Without healing, this card would be too situational (like Purify in a couple of version earlier), but with healing, it would be OP. How about if it works for only a limited number of turns (like 5)?

Quickly build a mono-aether and fight FG. Very cheap, that deck costs only like 1000. Oh, and choose Lobo for your quest, that gives you chance against a few more FGs.

Sorry for the very late update! The school work was strangling me.

    ======

    Day 17

Your indecisiveness caused you to look at your glowing pet again. It took that as a reassurance and decided to continue its way. The sky quickly sank, but there was still no sign of any large settlements.

It was not safe to camp, so the Ray of Light and the Firefly took turn to illuminate the way for walking. That didn’t last for a couple of hours, however. Generating extra light quickly drained your pets, and they were forced to settle in the wilderness for a night. Did the creature instinct fail this time?

You set up a simple tent which was barely large enough for you all. When it was time to rest, you couldn’t help but worry about attracting predators with light. But then you found that the Ray of Light was gone! You searched around and inside the tent but to no avail. Bad to worse.

You entered the tent and tried to figure out what to do, but the Firefly was cuddling the old bag, as if there was something in it. Truly puzzled as you hadn’t ever put anything into the bag, you looked into it and found the Ray of Light!

The Ray of Light stuck itself into the bag and shied away from you, clearly upset from potentially making a wrong lead. The look on it immediately swept away all the annoyance you endured during the day and made you very forgiving. You cuddled your pet with your palms, sweeping its warm and smooth surface. It was happy again.

Then you were struck by an idea. You asked the Ray of Light to stay inside the bag and took the bag outside the tent. Wow, the bag totally blocked the light from your pet. This discovery is surely handy, even for now – you could stuff your pet into the bag and go to sleep!

But it turned out you couldn’t stop the worry and mostly remained awake. The night was really long. You got a brief rest only after dawn. You woke up at late morning, half-replenished, and your pets were all energetic again. You reassured the Ray of Light and let it continue in the same direction. After a few hours of traveling, you saw some dazzling light from the horizon. It was different from the sunlight – just bright, but not burning. The Ray of Light was very excited and accelerated. Seemed that it was just a slight misjudgment of distance. Well yeah, slight.

The light grew stronger as you moved on. Finally you saw a gigantic temple with a profusely glowing object at the apex. You could only surmise that it was a crystal because it was too shiny for you to look directly into it. As you moved closer, you found that it was not just a temple – it was a small settlement. A few Crusaders approached and barred your entry.

“This is the great temple of Miracle. We cannot let you enter right now. Sorry.” He didn’t elaborate. You inquired the reason of not letting you enter, but he refused to answer and asked you to talk to the mayor – of course, after they allow you to enter. You asked when you can enter the settlement, but the answer you got was vague. The brief conversation bewildered you because it was not quite the usual behaviour of Light creatures. Was there something wrong?

    Make a choice or judgement:

  • (A) Do wait and look around. It was their settlement, and their privacy was to be respected.
  • (B) Keep eliciting information. Perhaps the Crusaders are charmed? The settlement was corrupted?
  • © Keep inquiring, but with the idea that they were in trouble which you might help.
  • (D) Fight your way through.
  • (E) Others (Please suggest)

    Day 16

You were at a crossroad outside the village. There seemed to be a lot of choices on paths, and any path other than the one through Calt seemed to have no harm. As you struggled to decide how to go to the waterfall, the Ray of Light led the other pets going east. Now your point of decision had changed to whether to command them back or not, and finally decided to just follow them. “Well, perhaps that saves me from making one hard decision,” you thought to yourself.

Your team treaded through the forest for many hours. The journey was long but merry. The sun was blazing, but it was cool to walk under the canopies of the trees. Birds and (giant) frogs were singing. The creatures walking by seemed to be very friendly to you due to your natural affinity to them, or partly the Mark of Life. You didn’t get any new team members though; on the contrast, you had to pull your giant frog back from going away with another giant frog of opposite sex! Then you cast a curious glance at it – is your giant frog male or female? Out of respect, you didn’t try to seek the answer.

It was near dusk and there were no signs of destinations, but your pets followed the lead of the Ray of Light nonetheless. You started to worry about the danger of the night. You were pretty sure that forest creatures wouldn’t attack you, espcially after being a friend of Life. However, you had also seen flesh spiders lurking around, and there was no reason to assume that you wouldn’t meet another patch. And the Ray of Light would cause extra problem, because nothing could attract predators better than a light ball in the night.

Suddenly a feasible solution appeared in your eyes. You saw smoke coming out of the trees less than a few hundred metres away. It seemed prudent to hope that it was an inn, or at least a family, and ask for an overnight stay. You stopped the Ray of Light, signalling it to stop by pointing to the sky, but were slightly surprised when it insisted going on. Then you pointed to the smoke, suggesting a rest, but it still tried to move on. You were not totally convinced, so you stood in its way, silent, trying to find more reason for staying.

At the same time, the Ray of Light seemed to relent and stood silent too. Other pets were silently looking into the empty, clearly telling you that they had no opinion. You seemed to have regained control of the route on a close edge. But what should you trust then? Move on based on creature instinct, or move to your house with your judgement, or else?

Topic: Elements / New Quest suggestion

And no more that kind of Elemental quests please. They are just… silly. No offence. I hope that Quests are for displaying strength, instead of doing something just for the sake of doing it.

Say, a quest of winning all FGs at least once is a display of skills. Winning FG 5 times in a row is also not bad, for it takes skills to choose a deck which maximizes the win rate, and also some luck. Winning FG or PvP2 100 times is also nice, though it involves grinding. Most importantly, these things happen naturally in the course of game.

But summoning / casting some specific cards in a game is definitely not about skills. It is not fun and not a display of skills to summon Crimson Dragons just for the sake of summoning them.
