I don’t think that this is a problem of information overload, but rather a cultural problem. Information is provided after it is demanded by the public; in a society where nobody cared about celebrities, there would be no news coverage of celebrities.

The real danger lies somewhere else. As someone who prides himself in not knowing anything about Kim Cardasian other than the fact she exists, it is safe to say I do not want to here about celebrities. It is surprisingly easy for me to accomplish this. Sure, I hear an errant bit of information from time to time, but I ignore that on a case by case basis.

By this same virtue, people often limit themselves to one news source, which is not only stupid, but dangerous. This video does a wonderful job explaining why this extends much further than simple ignorance, and fuck the Daily Mail.

Looks like our only real option at the moment is to start regulating ammunition the best we can, put serial numbers inside the casings as I suggested before, or use some other method (chemical or radioactive marker? RFID?). Ammo smuggling would become a problem.

Regulating the harder to print weapons (such as assault rifles) is still an option, but handgun regulation is pretty futile at this point, and will become increasingly so.

I was expecting a bit more outrage over Benghazi, IRS, and AP spying scandals. But the only ones outraged right now are the people who are always in a constant state of “outrage”. What’s going on?

All of them only have minor amounts (Chobits having the most) of fan-pleasers and no nudity. I’ll bore you with a longer list if you want, but those may be good ones to watch. You should also try one of the super main stream ones like bleach, one piece, or death note as those are always good choices for someone who isn’t really into anime or just trying it out.

I had the weirdest dream last night where I did that exact same thing, aside from swallowing the gum or enjoying the experience at all. I haven’t done any such thing IRL for years. That is an oddly specific dream and an oddly specific post. Do you happen to control my dreams?

People do come and go pretty often. Most have a stint of a year or two. They generally start posting less and less, no “I’m leaving” threads or stuff like that. It is likely some ore still lurking around without people knowing it. For example, I still exist, though I’m pretty most people here no longer know me. I don’t post often enough.

Really? Can you link me a highly optimized computer that only costs $600? Because I’m actually deciding to get one that can actually run detailed games. When I play LoL, I can’t go anything above medium settings or it would go below 30 FPS, and this computer is $700.

Build one yourself. My computer cost 600 dollars 2 years ago and still ran Bioshock Infinite on high settings. Use this guide for part suggestions.

Philosophy is important, but nobody teaches it right, largely because philosophy isn’t really something that should be taught. It should be developed. An open forum would be a far better way to learn philosophy than a class on Plato, as the best way to learn philosophy is to have a group debate your own ideas. My school offers no philosophy class, but it does have a philosophy club, which has been very effective at teaching practical philosophy for this reason. We start the day with a given topic, but from there we simply discuss what comes up. And it is fun.

Philosophy is far from useless—the world would be a much better place if there was more of it.

It is not fair that a Palestinian child cannot grow up in a state of her own, and lives with the presence of a foreign army that controls the movements of her parents every single day. It is not just when settler violence against Palestinians goes unpunished.  It is not right to prevent Palestinians from farming their lands; to restrict a student’s ability to move around the West Bank; or to displace Palestinian families from their home. Neither occupation nor expulsion is the answer. Just as Israelis built a state in their homeland, Palestinians have a right to be a free people in their own land.

I didn’t think he had the balls to say something like that. People are already calling this speech historic, for better of for worse. I believe most people are able to emphasize with his desire for peace, and now might be the best chance they will ever get.
