Topic: Kongregate Multiplayer Games / [The Grinns Tale] Share Youre Town

Haven’t seen a thread like this, figured could be fun to see what people are building. I figure try to keep it to one or two zoomed out shots to keep the thread from getting flooded and messy.

Here’s my city, I tried laying it out like an actual town rather then clusters of similar buildings, its not efficient as far as gameplay goes but I like it

Topic: Kongregate Multiplayer Games / [The Grinns Tale] What should I buy with Pramins?

Farms, IMO

I bought 2 plentiful farms a while ago and now I really dont need to use the bakery, which is nice when you’re leveling your Grinns and dont want to burn up resources just to feed them and keep the game going.

I agree with this as well. The game goes pretty far to allow you to change the way your Grinns look from hair, facial hair, facial decorations (glasses, tattoos) and a lot of the helmets are so obtrusive most of this is completely hidden

Topic: Kongregate Multiplayer Games / [The Grinns Tale] Terrible combat system?

I completely disagree. One thing that struck me about this game is how good the combat system is for what the game itself is.

The combat system is very simple, but very effective. At first it seems almost to simple but as you get farther in the game it requires quite a lot of mental effort to do well.

Sounds like you wanted to run balls first into the tower without taking time to play the gathering/crafting portion of this game and ended up with a squishy tank upfront. I find healing is actually one of hte most intensive parts of the game as any overheals are completely wasted, meaning you cant always just have you healer set on spam healing the first Grinn. You have to hold the heals back, wait until they take damage and THEN cast the heal.

You have to watch and learn the attack speed and pattern of the enemies to make sure you’re healing at the right times, while also killing the appropriate monsters to thin the numbers and make the fight winnable.

Topic: Kongregate Multiplayer Games / [The Grinns Tale] Happiness Rally Point?

I suggested this in another thread, but I feel like a movie theater would be great for this, and give it a second function that allows you to rewatch old cut scenes

I think he’s more of a test. He’s a random encounter “rare spawn” and he works. This means its something we can have in general gameplay throughout the tower and the Grinnfinite Dungeon. I like it, it adds some much needed diversity to the games enemies.

To expand on this too, I think a movie theater where you could rally grinns to to gain happiness and where you can rewatch old cut scenes would be really cool

As soon as you introduce player interaction then you must overly adjust game balances, which means the devs have to worry about balancing combat and items rather then just adding new and fun content. I’m very happy with this game thus far and dont think it needs a PVP or multiplayer function.

Topic: Kongregate Multiplayer Games / [The Grinns Tale] Suggestions and bugs

I’d love to see non class specific items that can be crafted. Maybe something like a research laboratory? Some place where you can craft gear that correlates with in quality and price, with the different tiers, but allows you to “fill in the gaps” in your gear or slightly customize your Grinns a little.

It would be nice to have the ability to obtain miscellaneous items that are universally equipable that that allow you to change a classes function slightly.

Topic: Kongregate Multiplayer Games / [The Grinns Tale] Build Limit on Decorative Items

I completely agree. I’d have spent pramins on more land ages ago if I had more decorative items to choose from and if I had a higher limit on all the items. I feel like Nexon is overlooking this as a selling point and just focusing on things like keys, the big difference being, I feel forced to spend money on keys but I want to spend money to make my town look nicer.

Topic: Kongregate Multiplayer Games / [The Grinns Tale] Changing abilities during fights

How about “Hindsight Potion” allows a Grinn(s) to change abilities mid fight Balance creation time, shop level, and resource cost accordingly.

Other option would be limiting the amount of times per room this can happen to one, that way you can only change once tactically, like you’ve got no fire specc’d guys and you get a Stoneskin in a room. In that situation you basically have to go back to town to respecc just to progress, which is not an ideal game system.

Happening to me all of a sudden. It worked this morning and now I’m getting stuck on the Nexon splash screen

Topic: Kongregate Multiplayer Games / [The Grinns Tale] Build Limit on Decorative Items

Whats the reasoning behind the built limit on things like cobblestone paths and stone patches/fences/trees?

I’m trying to set my town up like a real town and not just stacks of buildings in rows and you cant really build any kind of real city with such limitations in place. If there was some P2P option to increase the build limit I’d understand but is this a technical thing to keep the game from getting bogged down with to many entities on screen?

Topic: Kongregate Multiplayer Games / [The Grinns Tale] Happiness Rally Point?

What are the odds of creating a new building that would allow you to use the rally command to build up happiness? Maybe like a movie theater or a park, some plays where the Grinns can “socialize” and build happiness with out tediously having to grab them one by one.

Topic: Kongregate Multiplayer Games / [The Grinns Tale] Possible Solution to to many boxes, not enough keys?

The gambler could also require a new random artifact that can only be obtained at level 14+ and would have a processing time (4 hours maybe?(could be reduced by upgrading the building))

This means you A) have to do some work just to build it, B) cant sit there and power through a ton of boxes all at once

What about a compromise, a new building that can be built at the cost of resources and pramins that gives you the ability to recycle unused items.

It would let you turn spare crafting items into resources at a fair rate relative to their rarity and level and lets you “gamble” chests for the chance at keys.

If the building cost 40 pramins ($5) then Nexon gets paid AND players actually get some use out of the myriad of drops that are currently just sitting around doing nothing.

Because most people have no idea what the chests include, by giving a way to players to open boxes you expose them to the nice loot they could be getting while making it very inconvenient to do so without spending money. So now the player who got a few easly opened ornate boxes and got some rubies, rare drops and a pixie dust doesn’t have the means to easily open them again and is going to be a hell of a lot more likely to purchase keys.

I agree that 5:1 is to low I think a diminishing return would be a good application. i

i.e. 20:1 the first time, 40:1 the second time, 80:1 the third time. This means you’d be able to open a few boxes in the beginning, but (most) people would quickly run into a wall where they’d have to buy keys.

Topic: Kongregate Multiplayer Games / [The Grinns Tale] Possible Solution to to many boxes, not enough keys?

I’ve seen a lot of comments about the lack of keys in the game, and I understand its a bit of a P2P feature intended to help Nexon make money, ad I’m all for supporting the devs, but I think there needs to be some way to get keys in game.

Now the problem with something like trading resources for keys is that its farmable, meaning it can be exploited so that Nexon gets ZERO money. You could add caps to how often or how many keys could be obtained that way, but then you run into the issue of players feeling slighted and not supporting the game or down voting it.

My solution is to trade boxes FOR keys. This makes inherently unfarmable since in order to get the boxes open you sacrifice them, meaning you get less loot if you do this.

What this also does is give the player an idea of whats inside the boxes, and after seeing what goodies then can get they’ll be more apt to buy the keys rather then throw all the loot away just to get a little of it.

I think a ratio of 5:1 (boxes:keys) is a fair trade.
