Unreal Engine 3 comes to Flash

EDIT: I just came back and looked at the article again. Did they seriously not put a link to the demo?
There’s still some work to do before we can release this technology to developers and we’ll have more to talk about soon. We plan to continue working closely with Adobe and the long-term goal is to be able to bring amazing Samaritan-like experiences, and beyond, to web browsers through Flash.

Humble Indie Bundle #3 (Pay what you want for 5 awsome indie games!)
FYI, the bundle comes with a new version of VVVVVV with a level editor and more levels.
It’s totally worth your time to purchase (just make it more than a dollar, otherwise it might end up costing them more than the price you set)

new Indie Game $1, selling like mad. thanks to Kongregate.
It’s astounding how much effort people put into advertising trash like this. I checked both sites featured in the trailer. The other one looked like an incoherent mess someone punched together in Flash Pro and the other just a template site with nearly no content.

Yeah, I totally feel like shoving my money off to someone who can’t do proper punctuation let alone design a good site. That, and the demo version of the game wants me to give it access to the files on the computer. HMM.
It’s also a bad idea to create an account, use the said account only to spam the site with advertisements and then continue to argue with them, even when others point out you are here only to advertise some obscure crap nobody has heard of prior to looking at this forum thread.

Do it for the Devs
While Kreds should be the correct way to support devs, the developer needs to get $25.00 Kred revenue before they are paid. For instance I’ve only got about $1.91 at the moment and that doesn’t seem to be changing at the moment.

Yes. :’(
But I think blocking ads is okay if they are annoying or CPU-intensive.

Backing up Kongregate saves using symlinks and Dropbox
The Kongregate backup utility is a completely different thing. Dropbox instead, keeps files synced, so your save files on the cloud are never out-of-date. Using the backup utility, you have to regularly use it to keep your save files on check.

Someone tell me what to do with them, because I’m at a loss. I feel like getting VVVVVV, but I don’t really think I’d play it very much. Should I?
No RoS or Evony clones.
Gift all of them to my games. :)
On more serious note, VVVVVV is pretty short game but a pretty good one, so I’d rather spend Kreds on it rather than for virtual items in browser MMOs.

Use this. And have fun getting those “mobile-only” badges. Remember: download the app from m.kongregate.com/android on the simulator.
This seems to be working properly for me, I can run android, download the app, download the games on it, however it seems that the games are taking a while to load. Whenever I press “Play Now” the screen goes black. BTW, how do I login on the app?
I bet that it reguires ipod which i dont have :(
Nope, it’s Android which has Flash support, unlike products like iPad and iPhone.

Somebody help me understand revenue?
When you reach $25 you have to wait until end of the month before the confirmation period starts. After that you need to wait approximately a month before you are paid. That means it could take two months before you are paid after you reach $25.
Also, hasn’t anybody taught you anything about stealing?

Any shockingly brilliant game concepts?
Games played using only a single button can be amazing if designed well.
Take Canabalt as an example.

Gotta love the functions you have there, far more simple than the mess I have on my own project.
I haven’t seen that survey on Kongregate, or anywhere for that matter.

Flash vs Unity
While Unity at the moment seems to be the most advanced engine with the hardware-accelerated 3D graphics and such, Flash is still far more popular and I think it’s only matter of time before they catch up.
Originally posted by gamebuilder15:
Did anyone else notice that Unity isnt even close to as good as Flash? The graphics are better, no question about it, but the games are terrible. The controls are really bad usually. The demo game’s controls are pretty good, but the camera is really bad. Unity also lags, even on my fast computer. :P
I think we are supposed to compare them in the technical side (as in, performance, how easy it is to develop for the said platform, etc.)
Not the games made with them and how well they were developed.

So, very soon, Unity and Flash will have about the same capabilities, except that Flash already has most of the market.
Sorry, but no. Some of you guys are looking at it only as web-based games. You’re forgetting that with Unity, you write your game once, and you can deploy it directly to web browser, Win/Mac native desktop, iPhone, Android, Xbox, PS3, and Wii.
If you’re interested solely in making browser-only games, then Flash is fine. I personally do not believe that even v.11 will have the same performance as Unity’s browser-plugin, but that’s just me. I would be happy to be proven wrong when the time comes.
Also, as far as the Linux comments: Flash users are not much better off than Unity users. Flash technically runs on Linux, but it’s an awful nightmare. As an example, Terry Cavanagh, of VVVVVV fame, had to scrap the Linux version of his game because he couldn’t get Linux’s Flash Player to behave with his code that worked flawlessly on Win & Mac. Linux gamers are just kind of screwed all around. Aside from the Humble Bundles, there just ain’t much love for them.
Machinarium (which was included in the Humble Bundle) was developed in Flash and is available for Linux. I heard they worked around the poor Linux support by embedding the SWF file in a HTML file, which apparently performed better than the stand-alone application. Still, Adobe should do something about it.

Flixel+FlashDevelop+Flex tutorial ASAP
There isn’t need to go for a programming school in order to make Flash games, since you would be just scamming yourself. Just download some open-source flixel projects, tear them apart, modify and read up Snippets here ( http://flashgamedojo.com/wiki/index.php?title=Category:Snippets ) which you may find useful. That’s what I did.
It will just take time and patience. You are wrong if you think you are going to become a decent developer in matter of days or weeks.

Limewire sucked. There were better places to download pirated stuff and Linux distros anyway.
At least we won’t see all those “ubuntu xxx lesbian sex.mp3.exe” files anymore.
Also, what does this have to do with Kongregate again?
