it changed from 1 per 100 rating to 1 per 50 rating would be my guess.

4.) Comet Use
E.g. First move comet activation
AI should not use the comet without stopping any particular threat or without a plan.

5.) Fireball for revenge
The AI does not always seem to take into account that the fireball is lost when it attacks (e.g. when the player can trade equal pieces but the take by the AI is a fireball)

6.) Valkyrie calling king
when king is actually standing well before the call – sometimes the king is put into a very bad spot by this action and in most other cases the AI is just wasting a move.
Possible fix: Put a condition into the Valkyrie King call: call king only if the king is under threat before the move.

Probably more difficult to fix:

1.) The AI does not seem to think ahead beyond the first move.
2.) The AI does not consider how many times a certain square is attacked

Of course this list is not complete. If other people add more observations I will be happy to include them in the lists a applicable.

I think that the thinking-ahead really is the main problem. The AI seems to be able to detect when moving a piece would expose the king (i.e. the piece is pinned), but it still tries defending other pieces with the pinned pieces. Then you take the “defended” piece and the AI suddenly remembers “hey, I can’t take back here, I would lose my king”. Reading just another move ahead would solve this problem immidietly.

Also I think the commet use is a direct result of the “freeze is as good as kill”. It think it is killing a stronger piece and gaining a moral advantage.

yeah that only works when you have more morale than everyone else and can trade effectively. Game obviously isnt fair when you can have a 100 morale guy against an 80.

nope, it actually worked against any matchup so far. I obviously didn’t always win but I was never on the back foot from the start..

Not sure how everyone have so many ++ and +++ pieces already, I had to really sweat and spit a lot of gold a rubies for the dragon++ which I only completed today.

I’m not sure what you mean but this. I consider myself a “real” chess player, having played in tournament and having a decent FIDE rating, and I do enjoy this game. It’s also pretty far from real chess as is.

Topic: Chess Evolved Online / Daily Piece Discussion - Day 1: Rook

I’ve seen two rook-spam setups. The one me and upjyb use which are rooks covered by pawns, and the one MASTERMIND and a few others use which are rooks covered by phantasms. Both I find interesting, the phantasm gives you instant half-open files while also providing back-line support, but lacking the offensive, file opening, pushing power of the pawns+.

As an aggressive player I like the pawn-push strat more, but not sure which is better.

Topic: Chess Evolved Online / Why getting rid of my Queen was the best choice I made

Personally I never gave up on my queen, never saw a reason to as it is just the strongest piece in the game. Adding to it the fact that most minions are pretty bad, and not really worth it over the pawn, the queen just never left my army..

I don’t agree with either. Castling simply because of how impossible it would be to define. Is it only when the king is on it’s original square and a rook is in the corner? Is it with any piece? With any position of the king? How does it work then? Seems a bit overcomplicated.

Same for en-passant. I don’t really see any reason to get a special ability for a piece to counter that specific piece and it only. Without even thinking about how it would interact with things like Pawn+* and such.

As said it comes down to king safety. A general principle of chess which carries naturally here is control of the center of the board. That means you would usually want your pieces at the center, and your opponent would want his there. This means that having your king in the center is having him exactly in the middle of the fray, exactly where you don’t want it.

At e114 gems (the required for reinc at R29) I seem to be able to get this comfortably with dwairies. After buying everything each (auto-cast non optimized) spell cycle takes 3 minutes and gives me 3e198 coins, making this only a bit over an hour.

I have a movieClip called Enemy1, inside it I have another MovieClip called enemy1Gun with the instance name “enemy1Gun”.. how can I get the movieClip enemy1Gun from the code of Enemy1 class?

a simple this.enemy1Gun isn’t working, and I don’t have any instance name for Enemy1.

when I tested it using an instance name for Enemy1 as “enemy” the code _root.enemy.enemy1Gun worked, but I can’t use the instance name here.

Ever happened to you that you lost the main as file of your game?

I just lost this file for a game I’ve been working on for a month or so and I wanted to know if to try and rewrite the main file using the other ones, writing a new version of it and then modify the others to fit to it or to just rewrite the whole game from the start..
what do you think would be the fastest and most efficient?
