Just something I want to point out. Yes, the Kong swarming tactic died out because of a low player population, but it also died out because individualized attacking was more efficient than group attacking. Response times for sabotages can take like 10 seconds and then 1 attack will take another 5 seconds. This is largely inefficient because it gives the enemy time to counter-attack. Compared to an individualized player they can take down an entire player in a shorter period of time.

i suppose so, but it makes counter attacks difficult as well, since you have multiple people to take revenge on. anyway, my point is that we gotta try to organize, even if we’re gonna go on individual attacks

That’s fine. It’s going to be a bit hard managing a group like this though, since I haven’t seen one that survived yet.

I’ll test it later to see if that’s accurate or not.

EDIT: Upon further testing, the changes in your base’s happiness is not based on population. I’ll tried raising the happiness with a lower population base and I got results different from what you received.
The base below started with 50% happiness.

FAQ

Why are we ants?
The ant is Kongregate’s mascot.

How do we attack?
Click on your HQ. Search and click a name through the search button, Personal Revenge, National Revenge, or the Recently Active. Click on a tile, and you will attack that space.

I messed up, can I restart?
A month of inactiveness will cause your WotW account to be deleted. Other than that, there is no restart feature in this game. The first city in any base is always free to prevent players from being completely bankrupt.

Help! My account is deleted, what happened to it?
There could be several reasons that can account for this. First of all, are you using the same Kongregate account? Unlike regular flash games where your save files are saved in your Flash Folder, your save file is linked to your Kongregate account and is stored on Jiggmin’s servers. If that wasn’t the problem, was it a month since the last time your logged in WotW? In the last update by Jiggmin, all accounts that have not been logged in the span of a month are deleted. If these two reasons do not apply, I’m not sure myself.

When I check my strength, why does it say that my strength is 0?
This is a bug/glitch that has not been fixed. You cannot check any Kong member’s strength through Kong WotW. You can check it by spying on your base from another site, ask a player online to do this for you, or calculate it yourself in this thread.

How do you increase strength?
The three things that affects strength include the number of weapons, the amount of troops you have, and the level of the troops.

Is there a difference between ranged and melee weapons?
It all depends on the weapon’s power. If a weapon has the same power as another weapon (Ex: Queen’s Call vs Excalibur), whether your attack is melee or ranged, it makes no difference.

What is with these comments talking about 0 luck?
0 luck was an feature in WotW that causes insta-death to any soldier (Yes, a level 9 soldier with Queen’s Call can lose to militia) in combat since anything times 0 equals 0. Due to the infamy of 0 luck among many players, 0 luck was removed by Jiggmin in April 2012.

What does stealing intel do?
It resets your base back to questions marks if another player view your base. If you do not understand what this means, I’ll make up a scenario. I search up a NG player’s base and their buildings is filled with question marks. I spy on the buildings to uncover what is hidden by the question marks. If NG steals intel from Kongregate, the base will return back to question marks.

More FAQs will be added upon an approved request or if I see other FAQs.

Winning the Game

The first team to complete all the research and launch a ship to Mars, wins the game (and yes, the internet). After six hours, there will be reset that signals the start of the next round. During the reset, it will bring your turns back to 300 and drop all launch site levels down to 1 to make sure no one gets a head start.

If Kong wins:

  • Any player can launch to Mars before the reset if they have a level 9 launch site (180,000 coins).
  • Anyone who launches will be added to the Martian Hall of Fame.
  • Every soldier will be given a helmet and a 10% Martian Bonus that will last until the end of the next round.
  • Kong’s research amount will be increased in the next round.

If another team wins:

  • Launching is still possible if Kong finishes the research before the reset. Anyone who launches will also be added to the Martian Hall of Fame.
  • If there is no chance in finishing the research, start preparing for the next round.
  • The research requirements will decrease in your site down to a base amount to improve your chances of winning in the next round.

Topic: War of the Web / Updated War of the Web Kong Guide + FAQ

Tips When Starting Out

  1. MORE CITIES. When you start out, you’re extremely poor and weaponless. It might be in your best interest to build more cities to raise your income to access better weapons and stronger buildings.
  2. Avoid attacking in the beginning. You don’t want to pick fights with people when you’re holding pitchforks or throwing potatos at people who are using the strongest weapon in the game.
  3. If you attack, be prepared to be attacked. If you attack another player, you’ll show up on their personal revenge (remember, that they’ll have a 50% attacking bonus when they attack back) and also on the other website’s national revenge.
  4. Get used to seeing your buildings destroyed. New players often feel attached to the base that they have spent time to create. One day, you will see your buildings easily destroyed by another player. If you cannot handle that, this game might not be right for you. Try to stand up, get back on your feet, and rebuild.
  5. Learn who you’re up against. Some players are more dangerous and potentially more merciless than others. Proceed with caution when attacking these players.
  6. Don’t be afraid to talk in the chat. Most players don’t bite. In fact, some players might want to team up with you to attack another player or are even willing to give valuable and helpful advice.
  7. Be patient. Everything in this game whether it’s getting coins or attacking takes time since this game revolves around the turn system. It’s helpful to keep yourself occupied in another game and check back when your turns recover.
  8. This is just a game. Have fun. Not everyone will think that this game is fun. If you feel discontent or express rage in WotW, remember that no one is forcing you to play this game.

Initial Starting Base Layouts
As a new player, not everyone might know what to initially build or how to start the game. This section is made to give you an idea of how most players commonly build their base.

Initial End Game Layout (Building a end game base starting with buildings at level 1)
Pros:

  • Allows you to go straight into the game (Researching or Attacking)
  • Allows you to get experience and familiar with each building

Cons:

  • Slow building time (Can take you a week)
  • At a big disadvantage against more experienced players because of low building levels
  • Poor money output
  • Slow weapon buildup
  • Loss of early game immunity

Comments: To be added

All City Layout
Pros

  • Fast building time (~ 5 hours)
  • Quick repair time (Cities has the option to take 9 turns to repair which is considerably cheaper than spending money)
  • Allows you to get Queen’s Call fast and early
  • Early level 9 cities
  • A good late game transition base

Cons

  • Boring since all you’re doing is upgrading cities and getting money
  • Vulnerable because of the lack of an army
  • Might (or not) attract attention to players on other sites since they think you’re a farm

Buildings
I’m not going to include the prices of each building, I’ll let you figure those out for yourself.
Each building can be upgraded to a maximum level of 9.
Buildings have a health of 9. If this number reaches 0, the building will be destroyed and will not function until it is repaired.
Building levels stack. For example, if you have two level 5 HQs, the HQs will operate as if it is a level 10 HQ.

Armory:

  • An Armory is required to buy weapons for your soldiers.
  • Leveling up the armory will allow access to more powerful weapons.
  • It is advised to build a level 9 armory to access Kong’s “Queen’s Call” weapon since it is Kong’s strongest weapon.
  • Weapons do not disappear after selling your armory.
  • You can steal up to Spikes!(Power:3) by attacking another player’s armory and up to Awesome Cannons(Power:5) by attacking another player’s barracks.
  • You can hold a maximum of 99 of each weapon.

Barracks:

  • A Barracks is required to house and train soldiers.
  • It’s highly recommend to have as many as possible, since soldiers are essential to defending your base, and attacking others.
  • Militia will defend your base if you have no troops. Militia has a random rank of 1-9 and they use pitchforks(power:1) as their weapon.
  • Each soldier in the barracks can be leveled to 9 (1 turn to recruit each soldier, 8 turns per soldier to max their level).
  • Each level that you have in barracks will allow you to house 3 soldiers so if you have a level 9 barrack, it can house 27 soldiers.
  • Destroyed barracks can still house soldiers if they have not been killed in battle. The downfall is that you cannot recruit, train soldiers, nor adjust their fighting mode until the barrack is repaired.
  • You can, however, access all of your troops as long as you have 1 barracks up. (even if it’s level 1)
  • The amount of soldiers cannot exceed the maximum amount of soldiers that your barracks can house. For example, if you have 2 level 9 barracks with 54 soldiers and sold one of the barracks, your troop count will drop to 27.

City:

  • A city is required to produce coin.
  • The total level of cities determines how much coins you get per turn. Buy more cities, generate more money.
  • To prevent people from losing all of their money, the first city is always free.
  • Build as many cities as you can in the beginning, you’ll need the coin for other buildings and weapons.
  • Be aware that (poor) enemies can steal coin from you by attacking your cities. Staying hidden or having troops defend it can prevent this.
  • Cities are given the option to repair by using 9 turns. Most of the time, this is cheaper than using coins to repair cities.
  • Happiness determines a military modifier that ranges from -50% – +50%. Higher taxes will lower happiness and lower taxes will raise happiness. If you have no military and/or you need to make money, shift the slider to 100% tax. If you do have military, try to first raise the happiness to 100% by lowering taxes, then set your taxes at 50%. It takes 300 turns in 0% tax to raise happiness by 50% and 600 turns to raise happiness by 100%.

HQ:

  • Headquarters is required to plan out attacks or look at another player’s base.
  • It costs 9 turns to attack.
  • If someone has recently attacked you, they’ll show up in the HQ under “Personal Revenge.” This grants you a +50% attack bonus.
  • If a player on another site attacks any member in Kongregate, their name will show up in the HQ under “National Revenge.” Attacking anyone on the national revenge will give you a +25% attacking bonus.
  • The “Recently Active” shows players that have recently attacked (it does not necessarily mean that they attacked Kong) or researched.
  • The total level of your HQ determines the amount of soldiers you can send out to battle.

Spy Hub:

  • The spy hub is used to spy and provide protection for your strongholds.
  • You can search for targets with a lot of coins, launch sites, turns, or weapons.
  • You can look up another team’s player population and what research stage another team is at.
  • It increase your chances of sabotaging(negates stronghold bonus for one attack) another player when spending turns spying their base.
  • It decreases the enemies’ chances in sabotaging your strongholds.

Stronghold:

  • Strongholds provides a defensive bonus to nearby buildings.
  • Building strongholds in the beginning is not recommended since you do not have enough troops to actually defend your base.
  • Do not build strongholds if your base do not have soldiers to actually protect it.
  • If you build a stronghold, build spy hubs to reduce the chances of them being sabotaged by an enemy.

Launch Site:

  • A Launch Site is required to contribute research for launching to Mars.
  • It is recommended to have multiple launch sites because you will gain more research per turn spent.
  • There are nine stages of research. The research requirements increases with each stage.
  • This is the only building that is affected by the reset (the start of the next round, six hours after a launch) in which their level will drop down to 1.

Topic: War of the Web / Updated War of the Web Kong Guide + FAQ

Since the original WotW Kongregate Guide by VforVendetta is a outdated by changes made by Jiggmin over the past months, I’ve created a newer version of the guide that should help and guide new players entering the game. Credits to VforVendatta since some lines are adapted into the new Kong Guide.

Introduction

Welcome to War of the Web commonly shortened as WotW. WotW is a unique multiplayer game created by Jiggmin that turns the popular flash gaming websites against each other in a race to see who can research and launch to Mars first. You can arrange your base to be a researcher, the main contributors to Kongregate’s goal, or be part of the military, the people who attack in order to disable attackers and researchers in the opposing team as well as protecting the researchers in Kongregate. Always remember, you are not alone, you are working with your fellow Kongregaters.

The Teams

You might be wondering about the other websites that are competing against in this game. The other teams are listed below along with their site bonus. If you happen to stumble this game by chance in Kongregate and/or want to play in another site, the links are included below.

Starting Out

Coins are used to buy weapons, buy buildings, upgrade buildings, and repair buildings (with exceptions of cities). You can get coins by either investing turns in cities or stealing them. You can hold up to 259,999 coins.

Turns are basically action points. You use them to generate money, recruit and train troops, repair cities, or research. You can get 9 turns per minute and hold up to 300 turns. It’ll take 34 minutes to get your turns to go from 0-300.

In case you don’t know what these symbols/buttons mean.

Topic: War of the Web / An idea for you.

1. This would be an interesting idea, but people can easily abuse this system by creating alts and then send items to themselves. It’ll be like giving themselves infinite resources.
2. Depends what you mean by alliance. Truces with other players work, but alliances with entire sites does not (and THIS is called War of the Web).
3.Refer back to point #1

Topic: War of the Web / Strength Formula

Many players ask what their strength is and players will typically respond, “It is glitched. You can only check it from another website.” For those people who are too lazy to create an account in another website, I tested and found the formula to calculate strength. The formula is simply:

(Weapon Power) * (n/9) = Strength

n= the total level of all of your troops
Note: If you have level 1 troops, DO NOT include them include them into this number.

Weapon Power can be found though another formula shown below (or through an enemy’s spy hub but that would eliminate the purpose of using this method without an account on another site).

(# of Level9Wep * 108) + (# of BlackHoleMini * 72) + (# of MeteorMagnet * 63) + (# of MagicFoot * 54) + (# of AwesomeCannon * 45) + (# of SunDeathRay * 36) + (# of Spikes! * 27) + (# of FairySlingshot * 18) + (# of PotatoGun*9) = Weapon Power

Note: I don’t think this applies to many of you, but if you have more than 99 level 9 weapons, it’ll cap at a 187.

If there are any problem, errors, or criticisms with the formulas above, post it in the comments.
