I love the music of the Ratchet & Clank, Jak & Daxter and Sly Raccoon series of games. With emphasis on R&C.

That’s it isn’t it! 2012…the end by Swine Flu!

Personally I’m not too worried about it. If I catch it I catch it, not going to worry myself into a frenzy about it. Life is too short.

Topic: Serious Discussion / Man set on fire whilst sunbathing

I’ve heard alot of child/teenn psychologists and therapists (and other such experts) say alot of their anti-social, violent, vindictive or criminal behaviour is down to boredom. Nothing to keep their minds occupied. This covers everything from the beating and bullying to graffitti, loitering and underage drinking. It’s apparently a lack of stimuli.
Now I don’t know. When I was younger, the very last thing I thought about doing to tackle my boredom was setting someone on fire.
Is it just a lack of proper morals being taught these days? Or perhaps it’s the result of a modern, comfortable life, where everything is so instantly ready and available that boredom is more commonplace.

Iron Maiden

I came arther late to heavy music, and the first thing I heard by Metallica was St Anger. I dunno…kinda put me off them in a rather big way. First song I heard by Iron Maiden was Number of the Beast…really, there was no comparrison in my eyes.

7/10- Decently catchy with clean vocals and a very nice sounding band name. Not normally my taste in music, but I wouldn’t change the channel if they came on.

Topic: Serious Discussion / Sexceptable?

We have come a long way. Take what Ruth Smythers wrote in her book “Sex Tips for Husbands and Wives” in 1894:

‘While sex is at best revolting and at worse rather painful, it has to be endured…One cardinal rule of marriage should never be forgotten: give little, give seldom and, above all, give grudgingly…Most men are by nature rather perverted, and if given half a chance, would engage in quite a variety of the most revolting practices.’

Now women are advised to wake their man up in a variety of stimulating ways. I guess it has always been there, and there would have been people in Suth Smythers time who would have been more open and more adventurous. Take the old sepia Victorian nudes for example. I think just with a burgeoning population and the growth of the media, it has just become more visible. Not to mention the 1960’s giving a big boost to commercial sex…sex sells! Maybe it’s getting more and more mainstream because it’s one of the most powerful advertising tools?

It has it’s positive sides and negative ones I think. It’s great that we don’t live in a society as sexually strict as 1894, and people have relaised that sex is fun and pleasurable, not just a procreation tool. But perhaps people are being over exposed to it at too young an age? Who knows what problems that might cause furhter down the line?

I can’t really see why some brag and others find it repulsive. For many sex is still a very private, intimate thing shared with them and one other person. Perhaps they enjoy it and are rather wild behind closed doors, but just don’t feel too comfortable displaying it openly.

Topic: Off-topic / Metallica or AC/DC?

My vote lies wityh AC/DC. I am more of a metal fan than rock, but I find AC/DC to have much catchier riffs, and they really stick in your head. Well, maybe everything up till Black Ice anyway. That album was mildly dissapointing.

Still seeing them Tuesday though! Full Hospitality at the MEN…gonna be awesome! XD

Topic: Serious Discussion / God (Possibly undiscussed topic!)

Originally posted by Darkruler2005:

Why is it that people all across the internet hold discussions, and one of the most common topics is religion? Why do people seem to gravitate towards this topic so much?

As Saint pointed out, a majority follows a religion (any). It is the most discussed topic, probably because it includes so much, and has a drastic influence on our lives. For one, you can hold a philosophical debate about the existence of God. Two, religion is abusable, and it was abused a lot in the past. Three, science and religion clash (even though they don’t have to).

Uhuh. And it’s probably the only topic that is universally known, and even those who don’t follow a religion have knowledge of others and an opinion on it. It’s also totally inexhaustable. There will never be a definitive answer, just opinions, reycled, re-used or re-invented.

Topic: Serious Discussion / Are acronyms getting out of hand?

They save time or space, and as long as they aren’t used in exams, tests, official letters or documents etc, then I think it’s fine. They can also be handy learning tools like MRS. NERG.

Topic: Serious Discussion / AX: Would you press the big red button?

I think I must go with press it. It’s all down to survival, and with a strong possibility of being killed by the incoming ICBM’s from China, I’d want to try and do anything that would save me.
May sound selfish, but that is how mankind is programmed…to survive.

Chances are most people would press the button in that position. To be in such a position where you would be the one to launch missiles means you would already be rather de-sensitized. All part of the training.

I doubt I would fully be able to live with my conscience afterwards though…

Topic: Serious Discussion / Teacher-Student Relationships

I can always remember when I was working as a classroom assistant. One of the pieces of advice I was given was to keep a distance from the students, try to maintain a barrier as it were. Under no circumstances should I, or any other teacher/assistant/technician find themselves in a classroom alone with a student. Apparently this was to protect against any allegations that the student may bring against you.

Personally I have always had great relationships with my teachers. Heck, I even went to a Lorien Trust LARP event with one of them, went drinking in Edinburgh with another, and had an English teacher as a proof-reader and sounding-board for my short stories and scripts. I think there is nothing wrong with having these kinds of relationships and they can be very good. It encouraged me to behave in class, and I learned more from those I got along with than those I didn’t.

I just think you have to be a bit more careful these days. Alot of parents might dissaprove of their son or daughter having a teachers number in their mobiles, and this would spoil the image and credability of the school and individual teacher involved. And that is what alot of schools are petrified of. Hence my piece of advice!

Topic: Serious Discussion / Should You Forgive?

I agree it’s all down to what the best friend has done.
I had a best friend who slept with my partner at the time. I never forgave him.
I have a best friend who threw custard at me as a prank. I forgave him, ofcourse.

I am only really familair with their Toxicity album which I purchased soon after discovering metal. I liked Chop Suey and Aerials, but that was about it, and gave the album to a friend.
I guess since then my music tastes have changed somewhat and recently re-bought the album and rather like it. Unsure wether or not to go any further after hearing B.Y.O.B though…
