if all else fails, just buy everything. At that point you should be set. Although you can do it without all the top-level gear.

Only 2 i’ve gone for and achieved: Streamline and Meatboy

Streamline- this’ll only take you 2 hours, tops. honestly. just get a feel for the rhythm and you’ll get it down pat.

Meat boy- now in this one, at first, just get as many bandaids as you can. Skip the hard levels and get the easy bandaids. Once you’ve done that, you probably have ~10 left to get. This is just hard work and determination now. After a day or two, you’ll notice that the 10 bandaids you didn’t get turns out to be 4… So just continue to play those levels until you get it. Nothing a little bit of practicing can’t solve.

Topic: Stencyl / ! I_like_stencyl = true

I agree that stencyl has the ability to be better used than it currently is. Sure, in terms of potential, it can’t beat As3, but it is still somewhat able to do a little bit of this and that. However, that doesn’t mean i think Stencyl is great either. It promotes lack of determination to learn a programming language, which in turn, is a product that is viewed highly by mostly people who are too lazy or think that programming is too hard. That is why a lot of stuff on Kongregate in the “new games” section, by stencyl, is garbage. Not to say that Flash games are all great, but that basically put… there is no high amounts of effort put into stencyl games. If anyone wanted to make an awesome flash game, they would generally move on to making them with AS3.

I heard that was the top kissing game on kong. So hot.

You should see the devs developing while chatting. Sooo exciting. I learned my binary from being in the same room as those crazy 1010101110

I just read that last part Stealth. Very inappropriate.

1st. Senekis’s game. I just like it because it kinda reminds me of pictionary and fun little games like that. very enjoyable.
2nd. Eu_Plon_Ka’s game. Pretty Original (or at least not a genre you see now and again. I’ve never really seen a game like it). Provided a challenge near the end.

Topic: Game Design / 0 out of 0 Mana - Empty or full bar?

Speaking mathematically:

While it makes sense that one would think
n/n = 1 or 0/n = 0, this is only true when n != 0.

0 mana out of 0 is dividing by zero.

I would just make a case that if this happens the bar should be removed all together.

If that isn’t the problem, well, it’s just something perhaps worth changing.

I’m not sure what you’re trying to say, “level” isn’t an ActionScript keyword.

Looked it up, it actually is but it is an AS2 keyword.

I used AS2 a long time ago and am just finishing up my AS2 project and am currently switching over. I will focus more on the switchover once i’m done with my AS2 stuff.

Topic: Game Programming / I can't upload my games!

I’m not a fan of Stencyl personally, however, I must agree that it is a good fix to make casual games. Also, kong only supports uploading .swf files (not sure if Stencyl’s movie/end product’s extension is .swf but w/e) so .exe is of course, out of the question.

Option 1
Option 2

So, this “Vcam” thing… :P

I assume that I just move it by changing the _x and _y, and Stretch and such with width and height? Could it all be so, simple? Where does one find documentation on the use of it?

What a VCam does: follows the character’s _x and _y in a smooth and precise way. It’s what you see in some platforming games (’cept theirs are probably self-made and tweaked a little). Also Senekis93 provided a nice code.

just people who are pretty much haters and don’t really know much about as2.

I’m not going to deal with it, I started writing AS2. I think you people are just haters who don’t know much about either programming or AS2, or AS3. Or C++, for that matter.

Actually, I happen to know that the AS2 compiler is pretty horrible and I know my fair share of AS2. The problem is not people like you who know such things, but people who never have programmed in AS2 or know much about it saying stuff like “Using AS2 is for morons, blah blah blah” when in reality they are just agreeing with smart people like you and SkyBoy just to make themselves appear much smarter. That’s just one thing I hate in general, posers who side with 1 group of smarter people to give themselves the appearance of being smart. As I have said before I am learning AS3 myself. I also know a bit of Java but am learning more and more about it, the more I learn about AS3.

True, there are a group of people who are just blindly saying that. However, that’s beside the point, and AS2 is less like a programming language than anything else.

In terms of disorganization and such (as well as lack of a good compiler), then yes, it isn’t as efficient. Also…
I think I saw a quote in here about how learning AS3 isn’t harder than learning AS2 (but I can’t seem to find it, perhaps it was another thread but… I doubt it)

It is, in a sense, slightly harder (but not by much imo) in terms of syntax as well as creating classes/using packages/constructors/etc. or things that you really don’t need to create in AS2. Anyhow, other than that, AS3 isn’t too much more difficult to learn than its predecessor.
